Definitions
- the present invention relates to packaging, and more particularly to a box, blank and assembly for forming a box, and to an adjustable panel and articles formed therefrom.
- Packaging, and particularly gift wrapping involves a series of steps requiring skill and patience from the gift wrapper.
- the gift wrapping process includes the following steps: selecting an appropriate wrapping paper for the gift, measuring the amount of wrapping paper required, cutting the wrapping paper to the correct size, and folding and taping (or gluing) the gift in the wrapping paper.
- One or more of these steps may have to be repeated if the wrapped gift does not have the desired appearance.
- These steps must be completed for each gift to be wrapped, which during the holiday season or other high-volume gift giving occasion, may be quite numerous and tiresome for the gift giver.
- the gift wrapper is required to purchase the necessary gift wrapping accessories in order to complete the task.
- the gift giver must perform the additional steps of selecting and purchasing a box of the correct size.
- U.S. Patent No. 6,676,009 issued to Rose discloses a container having a number of selectable volumes. The volume of the container is changed by either folding and/or removing parts of the panels that make up the container along pre-determined fold lines or lines of perforations.
- U.S. Patent No. 3,366,313 issued to Culberg et al. discloses a pre-sized sheet of gift wrap having an adhesive coating such as pressure sensitive tape applied to its inside face along a bordering edge.
- an adhesive coating such as pressure sensitive tape applied to its inside face along a bordering edge.
- the present invention provides a box, blank and assembly for forming a box that may be used for packaging, gift wrapping and other purposes.
- An adjustable panel and articles formed therefrom are also provided.
- the blank includes a series of tabs and slots for holding the box in a formed position.
- the blank includes a series of tabs with an adhesive strip for holding in the box in a formed position.
- the present invention provides a packaging/wrapping solution that does not require cutting and, in some embodiments, includes its own adhesive mechanism thereby obviating the need for scissors and/or an external adhesive such as tape or glue. Further, in some embodiments the inclusion of a number of expansion flaps defined by a number of fold lines allows the depth of the box to be adjusted to suit the object being packaged/wrapped.
- the present invention provides, in some embodiments, a blank having a decorated outer surface which may be folded into a box, thereby eliminating the need to purchase a separate box for items which would otherwise require a box. Additionally, because the blank has a decorated outer surface there is no need for separate gift wrap. A gift card or tag may also be provided integral with the blank or assembly.
