Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a length-changeable ball-point pen, and more particularly, to a length-changeable ball-point pen which can be changed in its length so that its length can be increased when removing a cap from a penholder, to ensure convenient use of the ball-point pen, and it can be carried in the form of an accessory with the cap coupled to the penholder.
  • a ball-point pen having a short length so as to be easily attached to a mobile phone, a key holder, a bag, etc., and to be conveniently carried has now become widely used as an accessory. Since such a conventional miniature ball-point pen used as an accessory has a short length, it can be conveniently carried. However, such a conventional ball-point pen has problems in that it is difficult especially for a large- handed person to grasp the ball-point pen for actual use, and limitations necessarily exist in using the ball-point pen for an extended period of time due to forced grip of the ball-point pen.
  • a ball-point pen with a cap has been disclosed in the art, so that a rear end of a penholder can be fitted into the cap after removing the cap from the penholder to increase a length of the entire ballpoint pen.
  • this type of ball-point pen still suffers from defects in that the penholder is likely to be loosely or over-tightly fitted into the cap, and it is impossible to properly use the ball-point pen in a length- increased state when the cap is connected to a fixed object.
  • the present invention has been made in view of the above-mentioned problems, and it is an object of the present invention to provide a length-changeable ball-point pen which is constructed to have a decreased length when not in use and an increased length when in use, thereby improving portability and ensuring convenient use of a ball-point pen.
  • a length-changeable ball-point pen including a penholder for holding a refill and a cap, wherein the penholder comprises a front penholder for receiving the refill and a rear penholder out of and into which the front penholder is telescopically extended and retracted; a writing tip of the refill is exposed to the outside through a front end of the front penholder; a head member, which is formed on a circumferential outer surface thereof with an engagement protrusion, is fastened to the front end of the front penholder; a closure member is locked to and closes a rear end of the rear penholder; and a locking projection which is to be snap-engaged with the engagement protrusion of the head member is formed on a circumferential inner surface of the cap.
  • FIG. 1 is a cross-sectional view illustrating a length- changeable ball-point pen in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention
  • FIGs. 2(a) through 2(c) are views for explaining usage of the length-changeable ball-point pen according to the embodiment of the present invention
  • FIG. 3 is a perspective view illustrating a state wherein a cap is removed from a penholder in the length- changeable ball-point pen according to the embodiment of the present invention.
  • 4(a) and 4(b) are respectively a cross-sectional view and a perspective view illustrating a state wherein a connection ring is secured to the cap of the length- changeable ball-point pen according to the present invention and a state wherein a connection member is connected to the connection ring.
  • FIG. 1 is a cross-sectional view illustrating a length- changeable ball-point pen in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention.
  • the ball-point pen includes a penholder 10.
  • the penholder 10 is composed of a front penholder 20 which receives a refill 40 comprising an ink- container tube and a rear penholder 30 out of and into which the front penholder 20 can be extended and retracted.
  • a circumferential inner surface of the front penholder 20 defines an elongate receiving groove in which the refill 40 is received and a circumferential outer surface of the front penholder 20 is tapered.
  • the front penholder 20 is inserted into the rear penholder 30 from a rear end of the rear penholder 30.
  • a head member 21, which is formed on a circumferential outer surface thereof with an engagement protrusion 22, is fastened to a front end of the front penholder 20.
  • the rear penholder 30 has a hollow configuration so that the front penholder 20 can be inserted into the rear penholder 30 and telescopically moved out of and into the rear penholder 30.
  • a circumferential inner surface of the rear penholder 30 is also tapered so that the front penholder 20 cannot be completely removed from a front end of the rear penholder 30.
  • a closure member 31 is locked to the rear end of the rear penholder 30 to close an opening through which the front penholder 20 is inserted into the rear penholder 30.
  • the front end of the rear penholder 30 must have an inner diameter which is less than an outer diameter of a rear end of the front penholder 20. It is preferred that the closure member 31 is threadedly locked to the rear end of the rear penholder 30.
  • an outward circumferential flange is formed on a circumferential outer surface of and adjacent to the rear end of the rear penholder 30.
  • the engagement protrusion 22 is formed on the circumferential outer surface of and adjacent to a rear end of the head member 21.
  • the head member 21 has a through-hole which is opened at both ends thereof.
  • the front penholder 20 in which the refill 40 is received is fastened to the rear end of the head member 21.
  • a writing tip 41 of the refill 40 projects out of a front end of the head member 21.
  • the head member 21 serves as a stopper when the front penholder 20 is retracted into the rear penholder 30.
  • the head member 21 is snap-engaged with a locking projection 52 of the cap 50 described later in detail, such that the front penholder 20 can be automatically extended out of the rear penholder 30 when removing the cap 50 from the penholder 10.
  • the front penholder 20 and the head member 21 can be joined to each other by using a bonding material such as adhesive or threadedly coupled to each other.
  • the closure member 31 comprises a cylindrical member which is opened at a front end thereof.
  • the closure member 31 functions to close the opened rear end of the rear penholder 30 through which the front penholder 20 is inserted into the rear penholder 30. While it is preferred that the closure member 31 is threadedly coupled to the rear penholder 30, it can also be envisaged that the closure member 31 is snugly fitted around the rear end of the rear penholder 30 by machining the fitting surfaces of the rear penholder 30 and the closure member 31 with a high precision.
  • the cap 50 has a cylindrical configuration which is opened at a rear end thereof so that the penholder 10 can be accommodated into the cap 50.
  • the cap 50 is formed on a circumferential inner surface thereof with the locking projection 52 which is to be snap-engaged with the engagement protrusion 22 of the head member 21.
  • the rear penholder 30 is only telescopically moved rearward relative to the front penholder 20 from a contracted position toward an expanded position due to snap-engagement between the engagement protrusion 22 and the locking projection 52.
  • FIGs. 2(a) through 2(c) are views for explaining a procedure in which the cap is removed from the penholder in the length-changeable ball-point pen shown in FIG. 1.
  • FIG. 2(a) illustrates a state in which the cap 50 is coupled to the penholder 10, FIG.
  • FIG. 2(b) illustrates a state in which the rear penholder 30 is telescopically moved rearward relative to the front penholder 20 due to snap-engagement between the engagement protrusion 22 of the head member 21 and the locking projection 52 of the cap 50 when force is applied to the assembly of the cap 50 and the penholder 10 to remove the cap 50 from the penholder 10.
  • FIG. 2(c) illustrates a state in which the rear penholder 30 is fully moved to the expanded position and the engagement protrusion 22 of the head member 21 is disengaged from the locking projection 52 of the cap 50 by continuous application of force, whereby the cap 50 is removed from the penholder 10.
  • FIG. 3 is a perspective view illustrating a state wherein the cap 50 shown in FIGs. 2(a) through 2(c) is completely removed from the penholder 10.
  • the front penholder 20 can be extended out of and retraced into the rear penholder 30 with the cap 50 removed from the penholder 10.
  • the closure member 31 is threadedly coupled to the rear end of the rear penholder 30 to close the rear end which is opened to allow the front penholder 20 to be inserted into the rear penholder 30.
  • FIG. 3 since the procedures for telescopically connecting the front penholder 20 to the rear penholder 30 and fastening the head member 21 to the front end of the front penholder 20 are the same as those in the embodiment shown in FIG. 1, detailed descriptions thereof will be omitted herein.
