Definitions
- THIS INVENTION relates to an accessory for use with a microphone, to a microphone together with the accessory and to a method of using a microphone. More particularly it relates to an accessory for use with microphones that are used for audio pickup by television stations or networks and other broadcasters.
- identifiers on the microphones that their reporters use to gather audio from a subject, usually from a person that is being interviewed. These identifiers are usually made from plastic and are four-sided or triangular in shape. The station's name or logo is displayed on the identifier so that when the interview is broadcast, the audience can see which station conducted the interview.
- stations compete for viewers and need to keep their station brand and their channel number or broadcast frequency in the memory of viewers.
- an accessory for use with a microphone which includes a body having an attaching formation whereby it may be attached to a microphone; and the body having a fastening means for fastening a sheet-like display member having indicia thereon in a removable and replaceable manner.
- a method of using a microphone which includes fastening a sheet-like display member having indicia thereon, in a removable and replaceable, to a body that is attached to the microphone by an attaching formation.
- the indicia may constitute a message, an advertisement, a logo, a station name, or the like. It will be understood that particular indicia may constitute a combination of different forms. For example, it could constitute a combination of an advertisement and a station identifier.
- the display member may be of fibre board, or of a plastics material. It may also be opaque, or transparent or translucent.
- the accessory may have a light source that, in use, illuminates the display member from behind.
- the accessory may then also have a power supply for the light source, and a diffuser for diffusing the light emanating, in use, from the light source.
- the fastening means may comprise opposed channels in which the display member is receivable.
- the accessory may further have a window component, which is transparent, with the display member being receivable behind it. It will be appreciated that, with this embodiment, there will be a space between the window component and the body in which the display member is receivable, the fastening means then comprising the window component and the body and the space between them.
- the fastening means may have retaining formations, engaeable with complementary formations in or on the body. These retaining formations may be on the window component or on fastening members that hold the display member in position on the body.
- the retaining formations may be clip-like or of the hook- and-eye type. It will be appreciated by those skilled in the art that the attaching formation will usually attach the accessory directly to the microphone, or it could attach the accessory to a stand or a headset ttierefor. In the simplest form, the attaching formation may be a passage through the body in which the microphone is receivable.
