Description

Belt or waistband hooking device for mobile phone cases and similar
Technical field
The present invention concerns a belt or waistband hooking device for mobile phone cases and similar comprising a supporting plate designed to be fixed on the outer surface of the portion of fabric, leather or similar material that forms part of the protective outer cover or shell of said mobile phone case, and a belt or waistband hooking element provided with a connection base constructed so that it can snap onto said supporting plate.
Background Art
As is known, the sale of mobile phones was immediately followed by the sale of specific mobile phone cases consisting of a protective outer cover or shell made of leather, fabric and/or similar materials, shaped so that it can accommodate the mobile phone inside, thus protecting it from accidental shocks and abrasion while at the same time guaranteeing normal use. The belt or waistband hooking device which is fixed to the outside of the protective shell and is constructed so that the mobile phone case can be easily hung from the user's trouser belt or waistband. In greater detail, in the first models of mobile phone cases the belt or waistband hooking device consisted of a plastic or metal clip which was fixed rigidly on the outer surface of the side of the protective shell by means of common rivets made of plastic or metal. Having ascertained that the cases produced as above were not comfortable for the user when he/she was in the sitting position and that the repeated hooking and unhooking of the case from the belt or waistband could, in the long term, cause premature wear of the areas of the belt or waistband and trousers in direct contact with the clip, some firms in the sector began to market cases equipped with a different belt or waistband hooking device that permitted free rotation of the protective outer cover or shell with respect to the belt or waistband. In greater detail, this new belt or waistband hooking device comprised an anchoring plate designed to be fixed in a stable manner to the trouser belt or waistband, and a protruding mushroom-shaped pin that projected from the side of the protective shell and had a shaped head so that it could be inserted and locked in a stable manner inside a seat obtained on the above-mentioned anchoring plate, hence the case could be hooked to the anchoring plate rapidly but could also be easily released. Analogously to the first belt or waistband hooking device, the protruding mushroom-shaped pin was also fixed to the outer surface of the side of the protective shell by means of ordinary rivets made of plastic or metal. Unfortunately the belt or waistband hooking devices described above, once assembled, proved to be excessively complicated to replace, with all the production problems this involved. The demand for purchase of the two models of belt or waistband hooking device described above is in fact normally subject to rapid and unpredictable fluctuations which unfortunately oblige the manufacturers to replace, practically on the spot, the belt or waistband hooking devices on the cases already produced and still in stock in the warehouse to adapt them to the new consumer requirements, thus increasing production costs. To remedy this problem, in the European patent EP-1087680 a belt or waistband hooking device for mobile phone cases is described and illustrated comprising essentially:
- an outer supporting plate designed to rest on the outer surface of the portion of fabric, leather or similar material which forms part of the protective shell of the case;
- an inner locking or stiffening plate designed to rest on the inner surface of said portion so that it is aligned with the outer supporting plate, and provided with a series of protruding pins or teeth which are designed to engage with the body of the outer supporting plate passing through the portion of fabric, leather or similar material from one side to the other thus making the two plates integral with each other and with the portion of fabric, leather or similar material, and lastly - a pair of interchangeable belt or waistband hooking elements of the clip or mushroom-shaped type respectively, each consisting of a connection base constructed so that it can hook by means of a snap-on system to the outer supporting plate, and a protrusion which projects from the connection base and, according to the type of hooking element, has the form of a clip or a mushroom-shaped pin of the type commonly used for attaching mobile phone cases to the trouser belt or waistband. In greater detail, the outer supporting plate is provided on the exposed face with a seat with U-shaped perimeter flange, inside which the base of any one of the two belt or waistband hooking elements is designed to be inserted like a slide by means of a rectilinear movement tangential to the above mentioned exposed face. The outer supporting plate is also provided with a flexible locking tab which protrudes from the bottom of the seat and is designed to be engaged via a snap-on system into a through hole formed on the base of the belt or waistband hooking element in order to lock it in a stable manner on the outer supporting plate. The inner locking or stiffening plate used with the solution described in the European patent EP 1087680 can get in direct contact with the mobile phone apparatus inserted in the case and as the locking or stiffening plate is made of hard material the surfaces of the stiffening plate and the mobile phone rub each other causing abrasion the other surface of the mobile phone apparatus. Furthermore, the belt or waistband hooking device described in the European patent EP 1087680 has proved to be not very practical to use because insertion of the base of the belt or waistband hooking element into the seat obtained on the outer supporting plate requires particularly accurate and precise alignment, and can easily rub the portion of fabric, leather or similar material that surrounds the supporting plate, thus damaging it. In addition to the above, the various parts that make up the hooking device described in the European patent EP-1087680 have a particularly complex three-dimensional shape and are therefore relatively expensive to produce. The aim of the present invention is therefore to provide a belt or waistband hooking device for mobile phone cases that does not cause rubbing on the mobile phone apparatus, which is simpler to assemble and has much lower production costs.

Said supporting plate and/or the connection base of said belt or waistband hooking element is made of plastic. The present invention will now be described with reference to the attached drawings, which illustrate one among many possible embodiments of the invention. Brief Description of Drawings
Figure 1 is an exploded perspective view of a belt or waistband hooking device for mobile phone cases and similar produced according to the precepts of the present invention; Figure 2 is a lateral view, with parts in section and parts removed for the sake of clarity, of the belt or waistband hooking device illustrated in figure 1 ; while Figures 3 and 4 are two lateral views, with parts in section and parts removed for the sake of clarity, of two variants of the belt or waistband hooking device illustrated in figure 1.
Best Mode for Carrying Out the Invention
With reference to figures 1 and 2, number 1 indicates as a whole a belt or waistband hooking device which is used to particular advantage in the production of cases for mobile phones and similar. The hooking device 1 comprises essentially an outer supporting plate 2, designed to rest on the outer surface 3a of the portion 3 of fabric, leather or similar material which forms part of the protective outer cover or shell of the mobile phone case, and an inner locking plate 4 which is designed to rest on the inner surface 3b of the portion 3, aligned with the supporting plate 2, and to be then fixed in a stable manner to the latter in order to clamp the portion 3, thus preventing any relative movement between the various elements. The hooking device 1 furthermore comprises an interchangeable belt or waistband hooking element 5 which is designed to be fixed on the supporting plate 2 by means of a snap-on system in a stable manner but is also easy to release, and is constructed so that the mobile phone case can be hung on the trouser belt or waistband. In greater detail, with reference to figures 1 and 2, the supporting plate 2 consists of a flat plate made of rigid plastic in a preferably, but not necessarily rectangular shape provided with a central through aperture 6 obtained inside the perimeter of the supporting plate 2, and a lateral recess 7 formed on the central part of the side, which is connected in use with one of the two shorter lateral edges of the supporting plate 2. In the illustrated example, in particular, the through aperture 6 is positioned substantially in the centre of the supporting plate 2 and preferably, but not necessarily has a rectangular shape. In addition to the above, in the example illustrated, the second shorter lateral edge of the supporting plate 2 has a curved profile and from it projects, parallel to the plane on which the plate itself lies, a flat element 8 substantially triangular in shape and provided with a central through hole. As regards the locking plate 4, in the illustrated example it is constituted by a flat frame 9 made of rigid plastic, preferably rectangular in shape, which preferably reproduces the form of the outer perimeter of the supporting plate 2. A series of protruding connecting pins 10 project perpendicularly from the same face of the flat frame 9. The protruding pins 10 have a preferably but not necessarily cylindrical or truncated cone shape and are constructed so that each of them can pass from one side to the other of the portion 3 and then engage into a respective seat or hole 11 formed in the supporting plate 2. In the assembly phase the inserted pins 10 will be deformed in the respective holes 11 , so that the flat frame 9 is locked to the supporting plate 2 in a stable manner interposing the portion 3, simultaneously preventing any relative movement between the three elements. With reference to figures 1 and 2, the hooking device 1 is also provided with a protective plate 12 made of soft rubber which is designed to be positioned between the locking plate 4 and the portion 3. On the side of the protective plate 12 facing to the locking plate 4 a groove 12a is formed, the shape of which conforms to the shape of said locking plate 4. The groove 12a is deeper than the thickness of said locking plate 4 is designed to be fully accommodated in that groove 12a, so that the locking plate 4 cannot come into direct contact with the mobile phone when it is inserted in the protective shell of the mobile phone case. In greater detail, in the example illustrated the protective plate 12 consists of a frame made of soft rubber, the shape of which conforms to the shape of said locking plate 4. The protective plate 12 is provided on its exposed face with a groove 12a which is shaped so as to completely accommodate the flat frame 9 of the locking plate 4. The depth of said groove 12a is greater than the thickness of the flat frame 9 thus preventing it from coming into direct contact with the mobile phone when the latter is housed in the protective shell of the mobile phone case, excluding thereby any risk of scoring of the surface of the mobile phone as a result of direct contact with the flat frame 9 made of rigid hard plastic. In other words, on the bottom of the groove 12a a series of through holes 13 are provided for clamping elements. In the preferred embodiment the clamping elements are consist of the protruding pins 10 which project from the flat frame 9 and the through holes 13 are positioned and sized so as to be aligned with said protruding pins 10. With reference to figures 1 and 2, the belt or waistband hooking element 5 consists of a connection base 14 constructed so that it can connect by means of a snap-on system to the supporting plate 2, and a protrusion which projects from the connection base 14 and has the form of a clip 15' or a mushroom- shaped pin 15" of the type commonly used for hanging mobile phone cases from the trouser belt or waistband. However, unlike the solutions currently known, the connection base 14 of the belt or waistband hooking element 5 consists of a flat plate having a substantially L-shape made of plastic and designed to be coupled to the supporting plate 2 so that the larger flat portion 14a locates perfectly on the exposed face 2a of the supporting plate 2, and the smaller flat portion 14b locates perfectly on the side of the supporting plate 2 provided with the lateral recess 7. In addition to the above, the flat plate having an L-shape constituting the connection base 14 is provided with a ridge or protruding tooth 16 which projects from the end of the smaller flat portion 14b so that it can engage into the lateral recess 7 on the shorter lateral edge of the supporting plate 2. A flexible locking tab 17 projects from the surface of the larger flat portion 14a in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the larger flat portion 14a, in order to engage into the through aperture 6 on the supporting plate 2. With reference to figure 2, the flexible locking tab 17 is provided with a hooked head which is shaped so that it can pass over and then engage with a step or projecting ridge 6a obtained inside the through aperture 6 thus locking the connection base 14 to the supporting plate 2 in a stable manner while at the same time being easily releasable. The connection base 14 of the belt or waistband hooking element 5 can be released from the supporting plate 2 extremely rapidly, by slanting the flexible locking tab 17 laterally in order to temporarily move the hooked head of the tab away from the step or projecting ridge 6a present inside the through aperture 6 of the supporting plate 2. As regards the clip 15', or pin 15" which project from the connection base 14, since its two forms of embodiment are already well known in the art, it will not be further described other than to specify that it is produced in one piece with the connection base 14 and is therefore made of rigid plastic. Operation of the belt or waistband hooking device 1 can be easily understood from the above description and illustration, and therefore does not require further explanation. The advantage of the hooking device 1 described and illustrated above is that coupling between the connection base 14 of the belt or waistband hooking element 5 and the supporting plate 2 is much simpler and quicker because the coupling is performed perpendicular to the supporting plate 2 and therefore does not require particular alignment precision, thus considerably reducing the assembly costs of the device. Furthermore, all the parts constituting the hooking device 1 have three- dimensional shapes that are relatively simple to produce, thus drastically reducing the costs. Finally, it is clear that the belt or waistband hooking device 1 described and illustrated above can be modified and varied without departing from the scope of the present invention. In particular, with reference to the variant shown in figure 3, the belt or waistband hooking device 1 can be applied without the locking plate 4 and the protective plate 12 as well. An underlay 18 of plastic material can be stitched onto the portion 3 of fabric, leather or similar material that forms part of the protective outer cover or shell of the mobile phone case, which plastic material designed to be fixed on the rear face of the supporting plate 2 by means of a well known ultrasonic or high frequency welding. With reference to the variant of figure 4, the belt or waistband hooking device 1 is not provided with the locking plate 4 and the protective plate 12 either. The supporting plate 2 is fixed directly to the outer surface 3a of the portion 3 which forms part of the protective outer cover or shell of the mobile phone case by means of known ultrasonic or high frequency welding. Obviously, in this case the portion 3 of fabric, leather or similar material that forms part of the protective outer cover or shell of the mobile phone case must be made of a material weldable with the ultrasonic or high frequency welding.
