Description

Description COMBINED CHESS PLATE AND PADUK PLATE Technical Field
[1] The present invention relates to a portable board for chess and paduk (or, Oriental Checkers), and more particularly to a portable board for chess and paduk, which is divided into four parts so that these parts are piled up to reduce size for easy carriage and storage when not being used, in which chess pieces and paduk pieces are made of Styrofoam to have a light weight and coated with magnetic materials so that a user may enjoy chess or paduk more stably regardless of external environments. Background Art
[2] From old times, chess and paduk have been played for enjoying spare time.
[3] For chess and paduk, pieces are arranged on a board on which lines are regularly drawn. The pieces of chess and paduk are conventionally made of wood, which is heavy in spite of its refinement. Thus, the chess or paduk pieces are kept at a designated place, and it is not easy to carry them conveniently to another place.
[4] By reason of that, there has been provided a chess and paduk board, which is light for easy carrying.
[5] Fig. 1 shows a chess and paduk board 10 that is light to be carried easily. This board 10 may be divided into two parts and then folded by means of hinges 12.
[6] Paduk lines are formed on one surface of the chess and paduk board 10, and chess lines are formed on the other surface so that a user may selectively enjoy chess and paduk.
[7] However, though the conventional chess and paduk board may reduce its size by half, it is still not so small to be easily carried. In addition, since the board is folded using hinges, the hinges are protruded on one of both surfaces, which deteriorates its appearance and hinders a chess or paduk piece to be placed on the position occupied by the hinge.
[8] Thus, Korean Utility Model Registration No. 208407 discloses a four-section fabricating paduk board in order to solve the above problem. This paduk board 20 is composed of four sections, on one surface of which paduk lines are printed or engraved. A magnet 24 is attached to one side of each section 22, and a steel plate is attached at a position corresponding to the magnet 24 so that the magnet 24 of one section is adhered with a steel plate of all adjacent boards. The paduk board is also provided with two paduk piece containers having a size capable of being placed on four sections piled up.
[9] However, this four-section fabricating paduk board is too easily separated since the sections are adhered just using the magnets on their sides.
[10] That is to say, when a user enjoys chess or paduk on the paduk board made by assembling the four sections, the paduk board itself is apt to get easily loosed to disturb the user who enjoys chess or paduk. In addition, if any of the sections is lost due to carelessness in carrying or storage, the paduk board itself may not used any more.
[11] In addition, a conventional portable four-section fabricating paduk board has hinges on its upper surface and the hinges are fixed to the board by screws or the like, so its appearance is deteriorated. Moreover, a paduk or chess piece is apt to be hindered by the hinges, and if the screw is lost, the paduk board is divided and broken. Disclosure of Invention Technical Problem
[12] The present invention is designed in consideration of the above problems of the prior art, and therefore an object of the invention is to provide a portable board for chess and paduk, which is divided into four parts so that these parts are piled up to reduce size for easy carriage and storage when not being used, in which chess pieces and paduk pieces are made of Styrofoam to have a light weight and coated with magnetic materials so that a user may enjoy chess or paduk more stably regardless of external environments. Technical Solution
[13] In order to accomplish the above object, the present invention provides a portable chess and paduk board, which is divided into first, second, third and fourth sections with the same size so that the sections are capable of being folded to be piled up each other, wherein the portable chess and paduk board includes a folding unit inserted and fixed in facing sides of the first and second sections so as to connect the first and second sections and be pivoted as much as 180 degrees; a folding unit inserted and fixed in facing sides of the second and third sections so as to connect the second and third sections and be pivoted as much as 180 degrees in a direction opposite to the folding unit inserted and fixed in the facing sides of the first and second sections; and a folding unit inserted and fixed in facing sides of the first and fourth sections so as to connect the first and fourth sections and be pivoted as much as 180 degrees in a direction identical to the folding unit inserted and fixed in the facing sides of the second and third sections, wherein facing sides of the third and fourth sections are not connected with each other so that the third and fourth sections are moving freely regardless of each other, wherein a paduk print plate or a chess print plate made of steel is fixedly covered on one surface of each section so that the paduk or chess print plate are matched when the sections are fully spread out, wherein paduk pieces and chess pieces having magnetic force are provided in correspondence with the paduk print plate or the chess print plate made of steel. [14] Preferably, the paduk print plate or the chess print plate is fixedly covered on only one surface of the sections that are fully spread out, and a magnetic paduk print plate or a magnetic chess print plate is attached to the paduk print plate or the chess print plate. [15] Preferably, the magnetic paduk or chess print plate attached to the paduk or chess print plate fixedly covered on one surface of the sections that are spread out is divided into four pieces according to the size of each section. [16] Meanwhile, in a state that the sections are fully spread out, a paduk print plate may be fixedly covered on one surface, and a chess print plate may be fixedly covered on the opposite surface. Brief Description of the Drawings [17] Fig. 1 is a perspective view showing a conventional folding-type paduk board.

[23] Fig. 13 is a perspective view showing the portable chess and paduk board in an assembled state according to the present invention. Best Mode for Carrying Out the Invention [24] Hereinafter, a preferred embodiment of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings. [25] Figs. 3 and 4 are perspective views showing a folding unit applied to a portable chess and paduk board according to the present invention. As shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the folding unit 30 includes brackets 32 inserted into facing sides of sections to be connected, and a slide pin 38 slid according to guidance of a hinge 36 in a guide groove 34 formed in the brackets 32 so as to pivot the brackets 32 as much as 180 degrees. Such a folding unit 30 is well known in many industries, and not described in detail here. [26] Meanwhile, Figs. 5 and 6 are perspective views showing a portable chess and paduk board according to the present invention. [27] As shown in Figs. 5 and 6, the portable chess and paduk board 50 according to the present invention has four sections 50-1, 50-2, 50-3 and 50-4 with the same size, which substantially divide the entire area of the board 50.
[28] First and second sections 50-1 and 50-2 among the sections 50-1, 50-2, 50-3 and 50-4 have groove (not shown) on their facing sides, and a folding unit 30 is inserted and fixed in each groove. At this time, the second section 50-2 is pivoted upward against the first section 50-1 so as to be folded over the first section 50-1.
[29] In addition, the second and third sections 50-2 and 50-3 also have groove (not shown) on their facing sides, and a folding unit 30 is inserted and fixed in each groove. At this time, the third section 50-3 is pivoted downward against the second section 50-2 to be folded below the second section 50-2.
[30] In addition, the first and fourth sections 50-1 and 50-4 also have groove (not shown) on their facing sides, and a folding unit 30 is inserted and fixed in each groove. At this time, the fourth section 50-4 is pivoted downward against the first section 50-1 so as to be folded below the first section 50-1.
[31] Meanwhile, facing sides of the third and fourth sections 50-3 and 50-4 are not connected using a folding unit, so the third and fourth sections 50-3 and 50-4 may freely move.
[32] The chess and paduk board 50 composed of four sections 50-1, 50-2, 50-3 and 50-4 may be made of wood, synthetic resin or metal. In case that the chess and paduk board 50 is made of wood or synthetic resin, a paduk print plate 52 made of steel with paduk lines printed or engraved on its upper surface is preferably fixedly covered over the board.
[33] Thus, in order to fold the chess and paduk board 50 configured as above, the second and third sections 50-2 and 50-3 are moved upward against the first and fourth sections 50-1 and 50-4 as shown in Fig. 7, and then folded over the first and fourth sections 50-1 and 50-4 as shown in Fig. 8.
[34] At this time, the second section 50-2 is moved upward and then folded against the first section 50-1, and the facing sides of the first and second sections 50-1 and 50-2 are connected with each other by means of the folding unit 30 inserted and fixed in the facing sides. In addition, the facing sides of the fourth and third sections 50-4 and 50-3 have no connector, so the sections may be folded as shown in Fig. 8.
[35] In this state, as shown in Fig. 9, the third section 50-3 is folded against the second section 50-2, and the fourth section 50-4 is folded against the first section 50-1 opposite thereto. Then, four sections 50-1, 50-2, 50-3 and 50-4 are vertically piled up as shown in Fig. 10.
[36] Thus, the chess and paduk board reduces its size into a quarter, thereby facilitating easy carrying and storage.
[37] In this case, a folding order is not limited to the above case. For example, the fourth section 50-4 and the third section 50-3 may be moved downward and folded against the first section 50-1 and the second section 50-2, and then the second section 50-2 may be moved upward and folded against the first section 50-1. Then, four sections 50-1, 50-2, 50-3 and 50-4 are also vertically piled up as shown in Fig. 10.
[38] In order to use the chess and paduk board 50 that is folded as above, four sections 50-1, 50-2, 50-3 and 50-4 are spread out as shown in Fig. 6 and then used.
[39] At this time, paduk pieces 70 used for the board are preferably made of Styrofoam, which are coated with magnetic material, so that they become light.
[40] In case that the chess and paduk board 50 is made of wood or synthetic resin, the paduk print plate 52 made of steel is fixedly covered on the surface thereof. Thus, the paduk pieces 70 having a magnetic surface are adhered to the steel paduk print plate 52 by means of magnetic force, so a user may enjoy paduk more efficiently.
[41] That is to say, when a user enjoys paduk outdoors, paduk pieces are apt to be moved by external force such as wind. However, the magnetic force of the steel paduk print plate 52 and the magnetic paduk pieces keep their position more stably owing to magnetic force, ensuring the user to enjoy paduk more efficiently.
[42] Meanwhile, though the above embodiment is described just for paduk, the board may also be used as a chess board as shown in Figs. 11 and 12.
[43] That is to say, since the steel paduk print plate 52 is fixed on the surface of each section 50-1, 50-2, 50-3 and 50-4, a chess print plate 60 having a magnetic force is attached on the surface of the steel paduk print plate 52 so that a user may enjoy chess when desires.
[44] At this time, the chess print plate 60 may be a section plate 60 with a size corresponding to each section 50-1, 50-2, 50-3 and 50-4 as shown in Fig. 11 so that the chess print plate 60 is attached to each section 50-1, 50-2, 50-3 and 50-4. In addition, the chess print plate may also be an integral plate 60-1 so that one chess print plate 60-1 is attached to all sections that are fully spread out.
[45] In this case, since the chess print section plate 60 or the integral chess print plate 60 has magnetic force, it is apparent that chess pieces are made of a magnetic material with different polarity or its surface is made of steel.
[46] Meanwhile, though it is described in this embodiment that the chess print section plate 60 or the integral chess print plate 60-1 with magnetic force is attached to the paduk print plate 52 when required so that the board is used for paduk and chess in combination, it is also possible that a chess print plate made of steel is fixedly combined to a surface of each section 50-1, 50-2, 50-3 and 50-4, opposite to the surface on which the paduk print plate 52 is fixedly covered so as to use the board as a paduk board and a chess board in combination.
[47] In this case, it is preferable that the paduk pieces are configured so that a magnetic material is coated on light Styrofoam as mentioned above.
[48] Fig. 13 is a perspective view showing the portable chess and paduk board according to the present invention, which is in use. As shown in Fig. 13, the sections are fully spread out, and each section are fixedly connected to each adjacent section by means of the folding unit inserted and fixed in each facing side of each section, so the connection portions are not shown outward, and all sections are shown as one plate.
[49] For reference, though it is described that one folding unit is fixedly connected to each facing side of each section, it is also possible that at least two folding units are fixedly connected to each facing side. Industrial Applicability
[50] As described above, the portable chess and paduk board according to the present invention may be accumulatively folded to a quarter size, so it is very easy to carry and store the board with a reduced size.
[51] In addition, since each section of the chess and paduk board folded as above may be pivotable as much as 180 degrees against its side portion, the connection parts are not protruded outward from the upper and lower surfaces when all sections are spread out, differently from the conventional hinge, so the connection parts do not hinder a user from enjoying chess or paduk.
[52] Meanwhile, since the paduk print plate or the chess print plate made of steel is covered on each section and paduk pieces or chess pieces are configured so that magnetic material is coated on Styrofoam to have a light weight, the light paduk or chess pieces are adhered to the paduk or chess print plate by means of magnetic force, so a user may enjoy paduk or chess without any difficulty though external force such as wind is applied outdoors. In addition, by using the board composed of sections like the present invention, it is also possible to enjoy various games such as Western chess or Japanese chess.
[53] In case of paduk, a user may study life or death with the board being folded to a quarter size. In addition, the board folded to a quarter size may be easily carried, a user may enjoy chess or paduk at any time and in any place during a travel. Thus, the board of the present invention may also contribute to increasing population who enjoy paduk.
