Abstract

This invention relates to providing nail-art systems for improved fingernail and/or toenail decoration. The nail-art nail system comprises flexible, computer-printed nail-art applique’s (105) used to decorate fingernails and/or toenails. They are preferably cut from self-adhesive vinyl film (300) of the sort commonly used in the art of sign-making. They are preferably computer-printed with decorative designs, and computer-cut into the correct nail shapes. Metallic nail-art appliques of the nail-art system are also preferably manufactured, preferably from self-adhesive metallized sign-lettering film. Gold, silver, aluminum, and other metals may be used. A business systems, kits, and methods of manufacture are also disclosed.

Description

NAIL-ART SYSTEMS BACKGROUND This invention relates to nail art systems. More particularly, it relates to providing nail- art systems for improved fingernail and/or toenail decoration. Typically, people wishing to decorate the nails on their digits, i.e., fingernails and/or toenails, with designer artwork go to a nail salon to have a professional artist apply airbrushing, small glue-on decals, and other graphical decorations. This process is expensive, time- consuming, and must be redone frequently. Also, the quality and precision of the art will vary from artist to artist and from session to session. Typically, people wishing to wear genuine metal fingernail decorations also generally require professional assistance to glue metal foil onto the fingernails. Alternatively, solid metal, especially gold, fake fingernails may be custom-cast to fit a particular person, at great expense. The nail-art industry lacks a flexible nail-art applique that is conformable to the nail, simple to apply, and has high-resolution precise customizable designs. The nail-art industry also lacks a flexible metal nail-art applique that is conformable to the nail and simple to apply, with or without printed designs. OBJECTS AND FEATURES OF THE INVENTION A primary object and feature of the present invention is to solve the above-mentioned problems and satisfy the above-listed needs. Another primary object and feature of the present invention is to provide a nail-art system for satisfying the above-listed needs. It is a further object and feature of the present invention to provide such a system that uses self-adhesive nail-art appliques to conformably cover essentially the entire nail. It is yet a further object and feature of this invention to provide a nail-art system that is inexpensively manufactured with computerized sign-making techniques. It is yet a further object and feature of this invention to provide a nail-art system that provides high-resolution, inexpensive custom designs. It is yet another object and feature of this invention to provide a nail-art system kit. It is a further object and feature of the present invention to provide a business method including selling nail-art systems, including custom nail-art systems, over the Internet. It is yet a further object and feature of this invention to provide a nail-art system that includes metal appliques. It is yet a further object and feature of this invention to provide a nail- art system that includes gold appliques. It is yet a further object and feature of this invention to provide a nail-art system that includes silver appliques. A further primary object and feature of the present invention is to provide such a system that is efficient, inexpensive, and handy. Other objects and features of this invention will become apparent with reference to the following descriptions. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION In accordance with a preferred embodiment hereof, this invention provides a nail-art system, relating to providing mass-market self-adhesive appliques relating to decorating at least one nail on at least one human digit, comprising the steps of: selecting at least one set of nail outlines corresponding to at least one subset of typical upper surfaces of such nails with typical extended lengths to provide variations relating to user filing; storing in at least one computer such at least one set of nail outlines; selecting at least one decorative indicia; storing in such at least one computer such at least one decorative indicia; using such at least one computer, associating such at least one set of such nail outlines with such at least one decorative indicia and storing in such at least one computer such association; using such at least one computer, with reference to such association, electronically printing on at least one portion of at least one top surface of at least one self-adhesive film, having at least one removable backing, such at least one decorative indicia; and using such at least one computer, with reference to such at least one set of such nail outlines, performing computer-controlled cutting of such at least one self- adhesive film on such at least one set of nail outlines; wherein there is provided at least one set of nail-art appliques removable from such at least one removable backing; wherein each nail art applique of such at least one set of nail art appliques may be removed from such at least one removable backing and applied to substantially cover one nail. Moreover, it provides such a nail-art system, further comprising, prior to such step of electronically printing, the step of displaying such at least one set of nail outlines on at least one output device of such at least one computer. Additionally, it provides such a nail-art system, further comprising, prior to such step of electronically printing, the step of cleaning such at least one portion of such top surface of such at least one self-adhesive film. Also, it provides such a nail-art system, further comprising, prior to such step of electronically printing, the step of coating such at least one portion of at least one top surface of at least one self-adhesive film with at least one primer. In addition, it provides such a nail-art system, further comprising, after such step of electronically printing, the step of coating at least one portion of at least one top surface of at least one self-adhesive film with at least one topcoat. And, it provides such a nail-art system, further comprising, after such step of cutting, the step of weeding excess self-adhesive film from around such at least one set of nail-art appliques. Further, it provides such a nail-art system, wherein such step of electronic printing comprises the step of thermal resin printing. Even further, it provides such a nail-art system, wherein such step of electronic printing comprises the step of inkjet printing. Moreover, it provides such a nail-art system, wherein such step of performing computer-controlled cutting of such at least one self-adhesive film on such at least one set of nail outlines comprises the step of cutting such at least one self-adhesive film while preserving substantially intact such removable backing. Additionally, it provides such a nail-art system, wherein such step of electronically printing comprises the step of electronically printing on at least one portion of at least one top surface of at least one self-adhesive vinyl film, having at least one removable backing. Also, it provides such a nail-art system, wherein such step of electronically printing comprises the step of electronically printing on at least one portion of at least one top surface of at least one self- adhesive metal film, having at least one removable backing. In addition, it provides such a nail-art system, further comprising the steps of: offering to sell, via the Internet, such at least one set of nail-art appliques; receiving at least one order for such at least one set of nail-art appliques via the Internet; receiving at least one promise of payment for such at least one order; and shipping such at least one set of nail-art appliques to at least one customer. And, it provides such a nail-art system, further comprising the steps of: receiving at least one decorative indicia from such at least one customer for use on such at least one set of nail-art appliques; and electronically printing such at least one decorative indicia onto such at least one set of nail-art appliques. In accordance with another preferred embodiment hereof, this invention provides a nail- art system, relating to providing mass-market self-adhesive appliques relating to decorating at least one nail on at least one human digit, comprising at least one set of nail-art appliques made by the process. In accordance with another preferred embodiment hereof, this invention provides a nail- art system, relating to providing mass-market self-adhesive appliques relating to decorating at least one nail on at least one human digit, comprising: at least one computer interface adapted to select at least one set of nail outlines corresponding to at least one subset of typical upper surfaces of such nails with typical extended lengths to provide variations relating to user filing; at least one computer storage adapted to store such at least one set of such nail outlines; at least one computer interface adapted to select at least one decorative indicia; at least one computer storage adapted to store such at least one decorative indicia; at least one computer processor adapted to associate such at least one set of such nail outlines with such at least one decorative indicia and assist storing in such at least one computer such association; at least one computer processor adapted to control electronic printing, with reference to such association, on at least one portion of at least one top surface of at least one self-adhesive film, having at least one removable backing, such at least one decorative indicia; and at least one computer processor adapted to perform, with reference to such at least one set of such nail outlines, computer- controlled cutting of such at least one self-adhesive film on such at least one set of nail outlines; wherein there may be provided at least one set of nail-art appliques removable from such at least one removable backing; and wherein each nail art applique of such at least one set of nail art appliques may be removed from such at least one removable backing and applied to substantially cover one nail. Even further, it provides such a nail-art system, further comprising the steps of: selecting at least one set of nail outlines corresponding to at least one subset of typical upper surfaces of such nails with typical extended lengths to provide variations relating to user filing; storing in at least one computer such at least one set of nail outlines; selecting at least one decorative indicia; storing in such at least one computer such at least one decorative indicia; using such at least one computer, associating such at least one set of such nail outlines with such at least one decorative indicia and storing in such at least one computer such association; and using such at least one computer, with reference to such association, electronically printing on at least one portion of at least one top surface of such at least one self-adhesive metallic film, having such at least one removable backing, such at least one decorative indicia. • Moreover, it provides such a nail-art system, wherein such step of cutting at least one self-adhesive metallic film comprises the step of cutting at least one SignGold™ gold leaf vinyl. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE BEST MODES AND PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION FIG. 1A shows a perspective view of nail-art appliques 105 being worn by a customer, according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention. Preferably, nail-art system 100 comprises nail-art appliques 105, methods of making nail-art appliques 105, and equipment used to make nail-art appliques 105. As used herein, the terms "applique" or "appliques" are used as in the nail-covering industry, rather than as used in the clothing industry, i.e. as pointing to at least one artificial flexible nail covering, having a decorative surface, applied to a fingernail or toenail (as opposed, for example, to artificial nails or extenders). Further, the terms "applique" or "appliques" in this application refer to substantially full-nail coverings, and not to the small stickers used in the art to decorate painted nails. Preferably, nail-art system 100 comprises flexible, computer-printed nail-art appliques 105 used to decorate fingernails 110, as shown, and/or toenails. Nail-art appliques 105 are preferably cut from self-adhesive film 300 of the sort commonly used in the art of sign-making, as shown. Self-adhesive films 300 are preferably plastic films 340, preferably about one to about two mils thick, preferably having adhesive 330 on one side, preferably on a backing 250, as shown in FIG. 9. Nail-art appliques 105 are preferably computer-printed with decorative designs, as shown, and are preferably computer-cut into the correct fingernail and/or toenail shapes, as shown. Upon reading the teachings of this specification, those with ordinary skill in the art will now understand that, under appropriate circumstances, considering such issues as advances in technology, user preference, etc., other arrangements, such as thinner or thicker films, films of other materials, other cutting methods, other printing methods, etc., may suffice. Preferably, to apply a nail-art applique 105, a nail-art applique 105 is peeled off of backing 250, is placed onto a fingernail 110 of similar width, is smoothed onto fingernail 110, as shown, and then the excess length of nail-art applique 105 is filed off. Upon reading the teachings of this specification, those with ordinary skill in the art will now understand that, under appropriate circumstances, considering such issues as advances in technology, user preference, etc., other steps, such as cutting the excess length, applying a nail-polish sealing coat, priming the fingernails to receive the adhesive, sterilizing the fingernails, etc., may suffice. FIG. IB shows a front view of a sheet 270 of uniform printed nail-art appliques 105 according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention. Preferably, where nail-art appliques 105 are all printed with essentially the same design 220, a sheet 270 of uniform nail-art appliques 105 is made, as shown. Preferably, where nail-art appliques 105 are printed with multiple designs 220, a sheet 270 of non-uniform nail-art appliques 105 is made, as shown in FIG. 4. Backing 250 is shown exposed by the step 745 of weeding the excess self-adhesive film 300 from between the nail-art appliques 105. Preferably, where design 220 is provided by the customer, or is designed to order, or is not a stock image, custom nail-art appliques 105 are made, as shown. Preferably, where design 220 is a stock image, non-custom nail-art appliques 105 are made, as shown. Various combinations of custom, non-custom, uniform, and non-uniform nail-art appliques 105 are preferred. Upon reading the teachings of this specification, those with ordinary skill in the art will now understand that, under appropriate circumstances, considering such issues as advances in technology, user preference, current fashion, etc., other decorative designs, such as logos, mirrors, embedments in the plastic, etc., may suffice. FIG. 2 shows a block diagram showing the computerized equipment used to manufacture nail-art appliques 105, and inputs and outputs to that equipment. Preferably, nail-art system 100 comprises the computerized design, printing, and cutting equipment used to manufacture nail-art appliques 105, as shown. Preferably, computer 225 comprises a computer processor 226 linked to a computer memory 227, a computer input port 228, and a computer output port 229. Preferably, computer input port 228 connects computer 225 to an input device such as a keyboard, mouse, sketch pad, disk drive, computer network, Internet 1301, or other such computer input device of the sort known in the art of computerized graphical design. Preferably, computer output port 229 connects computer 225 to electronic printer 230 and/or electronic cutter 260, as is known in the art of sign-printing. Preferably, a computer graphical design software package 200, such as, for example, Corel Draw 12, is used to generate outlines 210 of fingernail and/or toenail shapes and sizes, as shown. Upon reading the teachings of this specification, those with ordinary skill in the art will now understand that, under appropriate circumstances, considering such issues as advances in technology, user preference, etc., other computer graphics or sign making software, such as Adobe Illustrator, Roland Signmate, Freehand, Autocad, unique customized software, other Corel Draw versions, etc., may suffice. Preferably, the computer graphical design software package 200 on computer 225 is then used to place decorative designs 220 at least within outlines 210 in the computer 225, as shown. Designs 220 preferably may extend beyond outlines 210, as shown. Preferably, outlines 210 may be printed onto self-adhesive film 300, as shown. Preferably, outlines 210 may only be unprinted virtual instructions to guide the computerized electronic cutter 260. Preferably, electronic printer 230, which is preferably connected to computer 225, then prints decorative designs 220 (and optionally outlines 210) to the top portion of a self-adhesive film 300 preferably having a removable backing 250, preferably according to the instructions of computer graphical design software package 200, as shown. Preferably, electronic cutter 260, which is preferably connected to computer 225, then cuts self-adhesive film 300, preferably around outlines 210, preferably according to the instructions of computer graphical design software package 200, preferably without cutting backing 250, so that fingernail-shaped printed nail-art appliques 105 may be removed from backing 250, as shown. Upon reading the teachings of this specification, those with ordinary skill in the art will now understand that, under appropriate circumstances, considering such issues as advances in technology, user preference, etc., other equipment, such as industrial printing and cutting equipment, home-user type equipment, specialized kiosks, etc., may suffice. FIG. 3 shows a front view of a sheet 345 of uniform custom printed nail-art appliques 105 according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention. Nail-art system 100 preferably comprises self-adhesive film 300, as shown. Preferably, self-adhesive film 300 comprises self-adhesive sign-lettering film 310, as shown. Most preferably, self-adhesive film 300 comprises self-adhesive vinyl film 320, as shown. Preferred self-adhesive films 300 are readily available from sign-making supply companies such as, for example, Avery Dennison Graphics Division of Painesville, Ohio, USA. Self-adhesive films 300 are preferably plastic films 340, preferably, about one to about two mils thick, preferably having adhesive 330 on one side, preferably on a backing 250, as shown. Preferred self-adhesive films 300 typically are supplied in rolls from about 15 to about 30 inches wide, and from about 10 to about 50 yards long. Preferred self-adhesive films 300 are available in various colors, transparencies, and patterns, and include fluorescent, refractive, pearlescent, glow-in-the-dark, clear, matte, shiny, holographic, iridescent, glittery, and/or other decorative effects. Upon reading the teachings of this specification, those with ordinary skill in the art will now understand that, under appropriate circumstances, considering such issues as advances in technology, user preference, etc., other self-adhesive films, such as self-adhesive polyester, self-adhesive Mylar, self-adhesive latex, self-adhesive rubber, etc., may suffice. Preferably, self-adhesive film 300 comprises metallic self-adhesive film 301, as shown. Preferred metallic self-adhesive films 301 comprise a metal layer 350, preferably between the plastic film 340 and the adhesive 330, as shown in FIG. 10. Metal layer 350 is typically made by vacuum deposition of a thin layer of metal onto plastic film 340. Preferred metallized self-adhesive films 301 are available in various specialty effects, such as, for example, metallic, metallic colors, holographic, shade-shifting, gold leaf, silver leaf, 3-D metallic effects such as diamond plate or riveted, etc. Preferably, the nail-art applique 105 manufacturing process results in sets 335 of one or more, preferably 20 or more, electronically printed nail-art appliques 105, preferably in a range of sizes to fit the nails of a customer demographic, as shown. The sets 335 of nail-art appliques 105 are preferably closely spaced to avoid waste, and preferably fit in a rectangle about 5.5 by about 4.5 inches, as shown. This set 335 of nail-art appliques 105 in a single backing 250 preferably comprises a sheet 345 of nail-art appliques 105, as shown. Preferably, at least one nail-art applique 105 of a set 335 or sheet 345 is electronically printed, as shown. Preferably, unprinted sheets 345 of nail-art applique 105 are manufactured, as well. Upon reading the teachings of this specification, those with ordinary skill in the art will now understand that, under appropriate circumstances, considering such issues as advances in technology, user preference, etc., other arrangements, such as larger or smaller sets, larger or smaller sheets, placing a set of fingernails and a set of toenails on the same sheet, etc., may suffice. FIG. 4 shows a front view of a sheet 345 of non-uniform custom printed designer nail-art appliques 105 according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention. Preferably, designs 220 are electronically printed onto self-adhesive film 3O0, as shown. Electronic printing permits an essentially unlimited selection of patterns, words, designs, colors, etc., to be placed on nail-art appliques 105 with great precision, speed, resolution, and accuracy. Also, electronic printing permits nail-art appliques 105 to be easily and economically individualized, i.e., hundreds of different fingernail designs 220 may be easily printed out at one time on one roll of self-adhesive film 300. This provides a great advantage over screen-printing, which is generally a small-batch process. Preferably, electronic printer 230 prints on a portion of the top surface 431 of the self- adhesive film 300, as shown. Preferably, electronic printer 230 comprises thermal resin printer 410, which applies melted resins to a portion of the top surface 431 of the self-adhesive film 300, as shown. A preferred thermal-resin printer 410 is the Roland PC- 12 Thermal Resin Printer/Cutter, manufactured by Roland DGA Corporation of Irvine, California, USA. The hot resins preferably penetrate the top portion 430 of the self-adhesive film 300, as well as adhering to the surface 431, as is known in the art of thermal resin printing. More preferably, electronic printer 230 comprises inkjet printer 420, which applies ink to the top portion 430 of the self-adhesive film 300, as shown. The ink may preferably penetrate the top portion 430 of the self-adhesive film 300, as well as adhering to the surface 431, as shown. A preferred inkjet printer 420 is the VersaCAMM Inkjet Printer/Cutter, manufactured by Roland DGA Corporation of Irvine, California, USA. Upon reading this specification those of ordinary skill in the art will understand that under appropriate circumstances, such as user preference, advances in technology, etc., other types of computer-controlled printers, such as dye sublimation, laser, offset, printers made by other manufacturers, other printer models, etc., may suffice. Preferably, nail-art appliques 105 are cut out of the self-adhesive film 300 with a computer-controlled electronic cutter 260, as shown. This offers a great advantage of precision and design flexibility over die cutting. Preferably, electronic cutter 260 completely cuts through the self-adhesive film 300 or metallic self-adhesive film 301 without cutting through the backing 250, as shown, as is known in the art of sign-making. Preferably, electronic cutter 260 is integral with the electronic printer 230, as is common in the art of sign-making. The above-mentioned printers 230 are also preferred cutters 260. Upon reading the teachings of this specification, those with ordinary skill in the art will now understand that, under appropriate circumstances, considering such issues as advances in technology, user preference, etc., other precision computer-controlled cutters, such as those manufactured by Gerber, Mimaki, Allen, Graphtec,, etc., may suffice. Preferably, the top surface 431 of self-adhesive film 300 is cleaned, preferably with isopropyl alcohol, prior to printing, in order to improve print quality and adhesion, as shown. Preferably, the top layer 430 of self-adhesive film 300 is coated (or infused) with primer 490, preferably after cleaning but before printing, in order to improve print quality and adhesion, as shown. Preferred primers 490 include Clearshield®, Clearjet®, Aqua-Tech Top Coat Primer AT5001-10, Herbert's Primer 7390/Hardener 604, etc. Upon reading the teachings of this specification, those with ordinary skill in the art will now understand that, under appropriate circumstances, considering such issues as advances in technology, user preference, etc., other primers, such as Jay Cook's All Purpose Sign Primer, other sign material primers, other plastics primers, etc., may suffice. Preferably, the top surface 431 of self-adhesive film 300 is coated with a protective topcoat 440, preferably after printing but before cutting, as shown. Preferably, protective top-coat 440 protects the printed top surface 431 from abrasion. Preferably, the protective top-coat 440 provides a glossy shine to nail-art applique 105. Preferably, top-coat 440 is a clear liquid nail varnish, such as, for example, Sally Hansen "Hard as Nails" with nylon clear coat. Upon reading the teachings of this specification, those with ordinary skill in the art will now understand that, under appropriate circumstances, considering such issues as advances in technology, user preference, etc., other top coats, such as Naturistics clear coat, Wet "n" Wild clear top coat, other nail varnishes, etc., may suffice. Top-coat 440 preferably comprises a solvent 441, such as, for example, acetone, which evaporates after application, preferably leaving a dry film of top-coat 440 adhered to the top surface 431 of nail-art applique 105, as shown especially in FIGS 9-11. Some of solvent 441 preferably permeates self-adhesive film 30O, softening self-adhesive film 300 and preferably making self-adhesive film 300 more pliable and elastic, preferably permitting a better fit to the fingernail 110, as shown. Solvent 441 also preferably permeates adhesive 330 of self-adhesive film 300, preferably making adhesive 330 stickier than it was previously. Where nail-art appliques 105 are stored in the open air where solvent 441. can evaporate^ this softening effect typically lasts for a week or more after manufacturing. Preferably, nail-art appliques 105 are stored in an air-tight pouch until they are used, in order to preserve the advantageous softening effect. Upon reading the teachings of this specification, those with ordinary skill in the art will now understand that, under appropriate circumstances, considering such issues as advances in technology, user preference, applique material, etc., other arrangements, such as applying solvent to the appliques separately from the top-coat, applying solvent to the appliques instead of applying a top-coat, using other solvents, etc., may suffice. FIG. 5 shows a front view of a sheet 345 of non-uniform custom printed nail-art appliques 105 for toes according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention. Nail-art appliques 105 for toenails are preferably manufactured in the same way as nail-art appliques 105 for fingernails, as shown. Preferably, the sizes and shapes of outlines 210 and designs 220 are adapted to fit the toenails of a customer demographic, as shown. FIG. 6 shows a front view of a sheet of unprinted 600 (indicated by the speckled metal pattern) and printed 601 metal nail-art appliques 605 for toes according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention. For self-adhesive metallic nail-art appliques 605, it is novel to manufacture metallic nail-art appliques 605 as above described for nail-art appliques 105, with or without any electronic printing, as shown. Self-adhesive metallic nail-art appliques 605 are also novel, whether printed or unprinted. FIG. 7 shows a block diagram of methods of manufacturing the sheet 345 of designer nail-art appliques 105 of FIG. IB, comprising uniform nail-art appliques 105. The sheet 345 of FIG. IB of nail-art system 100 is preferably manufactured according to the following method 700. The first steps are the steps of selecting 705 and storing 710 in a computer 225 at least one set of nail outlines 210 that will fit the nails of a selected demographic (with excess length to be removed during application). The next step is the optional step of displaying 712 the set of nail outlines 210 on a computer output device. The next step is the step of selecting 715 at least one design 220 to fit at least inside outline 210. This step may be skipped for unprinted nail-art appliques 105 and unprinted metallic nail-art appliques 605. Then, the design 220 is stored 718 in the computer. Then, design 220 and outline 210 are associated 719 in the computer, so that designs 220 will print in the desired location relative to outline 210, and the association is stored in the computer. The next step is to electronically print 720 design 220 to the top portion 430 of self- adhesive film 300, which has at least one backing 250, using the association between design 220 and outline 210 to print designs 220 within the interior of outlines 210 (such that when the outlines 210 are cut to make nail-art appliques 105, the designs 220 are on nail-art appliques 105). This step may also be skipped for unprinted nail-art appliques 105 and unprinted metallic nail-art appliques 605. Preferably, the last step is the step of cutting 724 self-adhesive film 300 without cutting the backing 250. More preferably, last step is the step of computer-controlled cutting 725 of self-adhesive film 300 around the perimeter of outline 210 in such manner as to provide at least one nail-art applique 105 which is removable from the backing 250, as shown. Preferably, prior to the step of electronically printing 720 is the step of cleaning 730 the top portion 430 of self-adhesive film 300, as shown. Preferably, prior to such step of electronically printing 720 is the step of coating 735 the top portion 430 of self-adhesive film 300 with primer 490, as shown. Preferably, after the step of electronically printing 720 is the step of coating 740 the top portion 430 of self-adhesive film 300 with topcoat 440, as shown. Preferably, after the step of cutting 724 is the optional step of weeding 745 excess self-adhesive film 300 from between nail-art appliques 105, as shown. Upon reading the teachings of this specification, those with ordinary skill in the art will now understand that, under appropriate circumstances, considering such issues as advances in technology, user preference, etc., other steps, such as curing UV topcoats, not performing optional steps, applying multiple primers and topcoats, multiple printing steps, etc., may suffice. Preferably, the step of electronic printing 720 comprises the step of thermal resin printing 750, as shown. More preferably, the step of electronic printing 720 comprises the step of inkjet printing 755, as shown. FIG. 8 shows a block diagram of a method 800 of manufacturing the sheets 345 of metal nail-art appliques 605 of FIG. 6. Self-adhesive metallic nail-art appliques 605 may be printed or unprinted. Self-adhesive metallic nail-art appliques 605 of nail-art system 100 are preferably manufactured by method 800, which is substantially identical, but which has the additional optional step of cutting 726 metallic self-adhesive film 301 around outline 210, which may be a non-computerized cutting step, such as, for example, die-cutting. Further, method 800 preferably uses metallic self-adhesive metallized vinyl film 301, as previously described, most preferably self-adhesive metal film, such as, for example, Signgold™ gold leaf vinyl and Signgold™ silver leaf vinyl. Upon reading the teachings of this specification, those with ordinary skill in the art will now understand that, under appropriate circumstances, considering such issues as advances in technology, user preference, etc., other arrangements, such as not having an outline and instead stamping, etc., the unprinted nail appliques, etc., may suffice. FIG. 9 shows a partial cross-sectional view through the section 10-10 of FIG. IB. Nail- art appliques 105 of nail-art system 100 are preferably manufactured from self-adhesive sign- lettering film 300 of the sort known in the art of sign-making, as shown. Preferably, self- adhesive film 300 is self-adhesive vinyl film 320 of the sort known in the art of sign-making, as shown. The resulting nail-art applique 105 preferably has several layers, as shown. The top layer is preferably top-coat 440, as shown, which is preferably optional. The next layer down is preferably the print layer 444, as shown. The next layer down is the preferably plastic (more preferably vinyl) layer 340, as shown. The bottom layer is preferably the adhesive layer 330, as shown. Before nail-art applique 105 is used, for example, during storage, manufacturing, or transport, backing 250 is preferably adhered to the adhesive layer 330, as shown. Nail-art appliques 105 are removed from backing 250 for application by the user. Upon reading the teachings of this specification, those with ordinary skill in the art will now understand that, under appropriate circumstances, considering such issues as advances in technology, user preference, etc., other layer arrangements, such as an additional print layer between the adhesive and the vinyl, the absence of a top coat, the presence of multiple top coats, etc., may suffice. Metallic nail-art appliques 605 of nail-art system 100 are preferably manufactured from metallic self-adhesive film 301 of the sort known in the art of sign-making, as shown. Preferably, metallic self-adhesive film 301 is metallized self-adhesive vinyl film of the sort known in the art of sign-making, as shown. The resulting metallic nail-art applique 605 preferably has several layers, as shown. The top layer is preferably top-coat 440, which is preferably optional, as shown. The next layer down is preferably the print layer 444, which is preferably optional, as shown. The next layer down is preferably the plastic (preferably vinyl) layer 340, which is preferably optional for metallic nail-art appliques 605, as shown. The layer below the optional plastic layer 340 is preferably the metal layer 350. For example, metallic self-adhesive film 301 may simply comprise a metallic layer 350 over an adhesive layer 330, with or without printing layer 444 or a top-coat 440. The bottom layer is preferably the adhesive layer 330, as shown. Before nail-art applique 105 is used, backing 250 is preferably adhered to the adhesive layer 330, as shown. Preferably, any layers above the metal layer 350 are at least translucent, and are more preferably transparent, so that metal layer 350 remains visible. The step of cutting 724 at least embodies herein the step of cutting at least one self- adhesive metallic film, having at least one removable backing, around at least one set of outlines of at least one set of nail-art appliques. The step of electronically printing 720 at least embodies herein the step of using such at least one computer, with reference to such association, electronically printing on at least one portion of at least one top surface of such at least one self-adhesive metallic film, having such at least one removable backing, such at least one decorative indicia. The step of cutting 724 at least embodies herein wherein such step of cutting at least one self-adhesive metallic film comprises the step of cutting at least one SignGold™ gold leaf vinyl. The step of cutting 724 at least embodies herein wherein such step of cutting at least one self-adhesive metallic film comprises the step of cutting at least one SignGold™ silver leaf vinyl. The step of cutting 724 at least embodies herein wherein such step of cutting at least one self-adhesive metallic film comprises the step of cutting at least one self-adhesive metallized vinyl film. The step of cutting 724 at least embodies herein wherein such step of cutting comprises the step of, using at least one computer, with reference to such at least one set of nail outlines, performing computer-controlled cutting of such at least one self-adhesive metallic film on such at least one set of nail outlines. Set 335 at least embodies herein at least one set of nail-art appliques made by the above process. Sheet 345 at least embodies herein at least one set of self-adhesive electronically-printed vinyl nail-art appliques on at least one removable backing. Nail-art appliques 105 at least embodies herein wherein each nail art applique of such at least one set of self-adhesive electronically-printed vinyl nail art appliques may be removed from such at least one removable backing and applied to substantially cover one nail. Set 335 at least embodies herein wherein each set of self-adhesive electronically-printed vinyl nail-art appliques is shaped to correspond to at least one subset of typical upper surfaces of such nails with typical extended lengths to provide variations relating to user filing. Set 335 at least embodies herein wherein such at least one set of nail-art appliques comprises at least about twenty nail-art appliques. Consumer packaging 1505 at least embodies herein at least one consumer packaging. Instructions 1510 at least embodies herein at least one set of instructions. Nail-art system kit 1500 at least embodies herein at least one consumer packaging; and at least one set of instructions; wherein such at least one set of nail-art appliques comprises at least about twenty nail-art appliques.

Claims

What is claimed is:
1) A nail-art system, relating to providing mass-market self-adhesive appliques relating to decorating at least one nail on at least one human digit, comprising the steps of: a) selecting at least one set of nail outlines corresponding to at least one subset of typical upper surfaces of such nails with typical extended lengths to provide variations relating to user filing; b) storing in at least one computer such at least one set of nail outlines; c) selecting at least one decorative indicia; d) storing in such at least one computer such at least one decorative indicia; e) using such at least one computer, associating such at least one set of such nail outlines with such at least one decorative indicia and storing in such at least one computer such association; f) using such at least one computer, with reference to such association, electronically printing on at least one portion of at least one top surface of at least one self-adhesive film, having at least one removable backing, such at least one decorative indicia; and g) using such at least one computer, with reference to such at least one set of such nail outlines, performing computer-controlled cutting of such at least one self- adhesive film on such at least one set of nail outlines; h) wherein there is provided at least one set of nail-art appliques removable from such at least one removable backing; i) wherein each nail art applique of such at least one set of nail art appliques may be removed from such at least one removable backing and applied to substantially cover one nail.
2) The nail-art system, according to Claim 1, further comprising, prior to said step of electronically printing, the step of displaying such at least one set of nail outlines on at least one output device of such at least one computer.
3) The nail-art system, according to Claim 1, further comprising, prior to said step of electronically printing, the step of cleaning such at least one portion of such top surface of such at least one self-adhesive film. 4) The nail-art system, according to Claim 1, further comprising, prior to said step of electronically printing, the step of coating such at least one portion of at least one top surface of at least one self-adhesive film with at least one primer.
5) The nail-art system, according to Claim 1, further comprising, after said step of electronically printing, the step of coating at least one portion of at least one top surface of at least one self-adhesive film with at least one topcoat.
6) The nail-art system, according to Claim 1, further comprising, after said step of cutting, the step of weeding excess self-adhesive film from around such at least one set of nail-art appliques.
7) The nail-art system, according to Claim 1, wherein said step of electronic printing comprises the step of thermal resin printing.
8) The nail-art system, according to Claim 1, wherein said step of electronic printing comprises the step of inkjet printing.
9) The nail-art system, according to Claim 1, wherein said step of performing computer- controlled cutting of such at least one self-adhesive film on such at least one set of nail outlines comprises the step of cutting such at least one self-adhesive film while preserving substantially intact such removable backing.
10) The nail-art system, according to Claim 1, wherein said step of electronically printing comprises the step of electronically printing on at least one portion of at least one top surface of at least one self-adhesive vinyl film, having at least one removable backing.
11) The nail-art system, according to Claim 1, wherein said step of electronically printing comprises the step of electronically printing on at least one portion of at least one top surface of at least one self-adhesive metal film, having at least one removable backing.
12) The nail-art system, according to Claim 1, further comprising the steps of: a) offering to sell, via the Internet, such at least one set of nail-art appliques; b) receiving at least one order for such at least one set of nail-art appliques via the Internet; c) receiving at least one promise of payment for such at least one order; and d) shipping such at least one set of nail-art appliques to at least one customer. 13) The nail-art system, according to Claim 12, further comprising the steps of: a) receiving at least one decorative indicia from such at least one customer for use on such at least one set of nail-art appliques; and b) electronically printing such at least one decorative indicia onto such at least one set of nail-art appliques.
14) A nail-art system, relating to providing mass-market self-adhesive appliques relating to decorating at least one nail on at least one human digit, comprising at least one set of nail-art appliques made by the process according to Claim 1.
15) A nail-art system, relating to providing mass-market self-adhesive appliques relating to decorating at least one nail on at least one human digit, comprising: a) at least one computer interface adapted to select at least one set of nail outlines corresponding to at least one subset of typical upper surfaces of such nails with typical extended lengths to provide variations relating to user filing; b) at least one computer storage adapted to store such at least one set of such nail outlines; c) at least one computer interface adapted to select at least one decorative indicia; d) at least one computer storage adapted to store such at least one decorative indicia; e) at least one computer processor adapted to associate such at least one set of such nail outlines with such at least one decorative indicia and assist storing in such at least one computer such association; f) at least one computer processor adapted to control electronic printing, with reference to such association, on at least one portion of at least one top surface of at least one self-adhesive film, having at least one removable backing, such at least one decorative indicia; and g) at least one computer processor adapted to perform, with reference to such at least one set of such nail outlines, computer-controlled cutting of such at least one self- adhesive film on such at least one set of nail outlines; h) wherein there may be provided at least one set of nail-art appliques removable from such at least one removable backing; and i) wherein each nail art applique of such at least one set of nail art appliques may be removed from such at least one removable backing and applied to substantially cover one nail.
16) The nail-art system, according to Claim 15, further comprising at least one computer processor adapted to display such at least one decorative indicia on at least one computer output device.
17) A nail-art system, relating to providing mass-market self-adhesive appliques relating to decorating at least one nail on at least one human digit, comprising the steps of: a) cutting at least one self-adhesive metallic film, having at least one removable backing, around at least one set of outlines of at least one set of nail-art appliques; b) wherein there may be provided at least one set of nail-art appliques removable from such at least one removable backing; and c) wherein each nail art applique of such at least one set of nail art appliques may be removed from such at least one removable backing and applied to substantially cover one nail.
18) The nail-art system, according to Claim 17, further comprising the steps of: a) selecting at least one set of nail outlines corresponding to at least one subset of typical upper surfaces of such nails with typical extended lengths to provide variations relating to user filing; b) storing in at least one computer such at least one set of nail outlines; c) selecting at least one decorative indicia; d) storing in such at least one computer such at least one decorative indicia; e) using such at least one computer, associating such at least one set of such nail outlines with such at least one decorative indicia and storing in such at least one computer such association; and f) using such at least one computer, with reference to such association, electronically printing on at least one portion of at least one top surface of such at least one self-adhesive metallic film, having such at least one removable backing, such at least one decorative indicia. 19) The nail-art system, according to Claim 17, wherein said step of cutting at least one self- adhesive metallic film comprises the step of cutting at least one SignGold™ gold leaf vinyl.
20) The nail-art system, according to Claim 17, wherein said step of cutting at least one self- adhesive metallic film comprises the step of cutting at least one SignGold™ silver leaf vinyl.
21) The nail-art system, according to Claim 17, wherein said step of cutting at least one self- adhesive metallic film comprises the step of cutting at least one self-adhesive metallized vinyl film.
22) The nail-art system, according to Claim 17, wherein said step of cutting comprises the step of, using at least one computer, with reference to such at least one set of nail outlines, performing computer-controlled cutting of such at least one self-adhesive metallic film on such at least one set of nail outlines.
23) A nail-art system, relating to providing mass-market self-adhesive appliques relating to decorating at least one nail on at least one human digit, comprising at least one set of nail-art appliques made by the process according to Claim 17.
24) A nail-art system, relating to providing mass-market self-adhesive appliques relating to decorating at least one nail on at least one human digit, comprising: a) at least one set of self-adhesive electronically-printed vinyl nail-art appliques on at least one removable backing; b) wherein each nail art applique of such at least one set of self-adhesive electronically-printed vinyl nail art appliques may be removed from such at least one removable backing and applied to substantially cover one nail; c) wherein each set of self-adhesive electronically-printed vinyl nail-art appliques is shaped to correspond to at least one subset of typical upper surfaces of such nails with typical extended lengths to provide variations relating to user filing.
25) The nail-art system, according to Claim 24, wherein said at least one set of nail-art appliques comprises at least about twenty nail-art appliques.
26) The nail-art system, according to Claim 24, further comprising at least one consumer packaging. 27) The nail-art system, according to Claim 24, further comprising at least one set of instructions.
28) The nail-art system, according to Claim 24, further comprising: a) at least one consumer packaging; and b) at least one set of instructions; c) wherein said at least one set of nail-art appliques comprises at least about twenty nail-art appliques.
