Description

BASE APTE A RECEVOIR UN TERMINAL MOBILE. LA BASE PRESENTANT DES MOYENS DΕMISSION/RECEPTION AMPLIFIES BASE CAPABLE OF RECEIVING A MOBILE TERMINAL. THE BASIS WITH AMPLIFIED TRANSMISSION / RECEPTION MEANS
La base 200 présente également des fonctions « mains libres ».The invention relates to the field of cellular telephony. Despite the efforts made by mobile operators to improve the coverage of their network, there are still areas that are not (or are poorly) served by the mobile network. In these areas, the quality of reception of signals from the mobile network is poor. These areas, called “gray areas”, generally correspond to isolated places or places that are difficult to access. Operators are trying to cover these gray areas by installing new radio sites. An object of the invention is to provide a method allowing subscribers to establish communications from their mobile terminal, in particular in these gray areas. To this end, the invention provides a device comprising a base capable of being connected to a cellular mobile terminal comprising transmission / reception means capable of establishing a link with a cellular telecommunication network, characterized in that the base comprises transmission / reception means, capable of establishing a link with the cellular telecommunications network, the transmission / reception means of said base taking over from the transmission / reception means of the cellular mobile terminal when the terminal is connected to the base. In known manner, the base is a cradle or "cradie". A cradie is a base into which a mobile terminal is inserted, this base generally comprising means for recharging the battery of the terminal. When the mobile terminal is connected to the base, the transmission and reception of signals between the mobile terminal and the cellular network are carried out by the base. The base acts as an interface between the mobile terminal and the cellular network. The base can in particular comprise means of transmission / reception amplified compared to those of the terminal mobile. Thus, this base improves the quality of the link between the terminal and the network. Typically, the transmission / reception means of the terminal comprise an antenna and amplification means whose energy consumption is of the order of 1 Watt. The base transmission / reception means also include an antenna and more efficient amplification means whose energy consumption is of the order of 4 Watt. Thanks to the method of the invention, the subscriber of the cellular network can establish communications from his mobile terminal, even if he is in a gray area of the cellular telecommunication network because the communications are amplified by the base. This type of device can be installed in the subscriber's home or workplace located in a gray area of the network. It can also be installed in public places (cafes, hotels, stations, airports, libraries, etc.) It will however be understood that the device of the invention can be implemented in any area in which a base is installed, even if the link with the mobile network is of good quality in this area. The invention also relates to a method characterized in that it comprises the steps consisting in connecting a cellular mobile terminal comprising transmission / reception means able to establish a link with a cellular telecommunications network, to a base, the base comprising transmission / reception means capable of establishing a link with the cellular telecommunications network, activating the transmission / reception means of said base and deactivating the transmission / reception means of the cellular mobile terminal when the terminal is connected to the base so that the transmission / reception means of said base take over from the transmission / reception means of the terminal. Other characteristics and advantages will also emerge from the description which follows, which is purely illustrative and not limiting and should be read with reference to the appended figure. This figure represents schematically an example of a device according to an implementation of the invention. In the figure, the device is in the form of a base 200 capable of receiving a mobile terminal 100. The base 200 conventionally comprises a support having an opening 210 in which the terminal 100 is inserted. The terminal 100 can be held in the support for example by clipping means. In the embodiment shown in the figure, when the terminal 100 is supported by the base 200, it is connected to loading means 220, a management unit 230, and to transmission / reception means 240 of the base 200. For this purpose, the opening 210 is provided with connections 222 and 224 coming into contact with the charging socket of the mobile terminal 100, these connections 222 and 224 connecting the battery of the terminal 100 to charging means 220. The loading means 220 are also supplied by an external line connected to the sector. The opening 210 is also provided with connections 232 coming into contact with the “hands-free” socket of the terminal 100. These connections 232 connect the terminal 100 to the management unit 230 and allow exchanges of voice signals between the terminal 100 and the base 200. Furthermore, the management unit 230 is connected to GSM transmission / reception means 240 of the base 200. The opening 210 of the base 200 is also provided with connections 242 coming into contact with a socket antenna 100. These connections 242 connect the transmission / reception means 110 of the terminal 100 to the transmission / reception means 240 of the base 200. In known manner, bringing the connections 242 into contact with the socket 'antenna triggers its automatic deactivation. When the terminal 100 is arranged in the base 200, the management unit 230 controls the transmission / reception means 240 so that these take over from the transmission / reception means 110 of the mobile terminal 100. Thus, the transmission / reception means 110 of the terminal mobile 100 are deactivated while the transmission / reception means 240 of the base 200 are activated. The transmission and reception of signals between the mobile terminal 100 and the GSM cellular network are carried out by the base 200. The base plays an interface role between the mobile terminal 100 and the cellular network. The transmission / reception means 240 of the base 200 comprise an antenna or a combination of antennas (diversification of antennas) as well as amplification means. The use of a combination of antennas improves the quality of the link with the cellular network. The transmission / reception means 240 of the base are more powerful than the transmission / reception means 110 of the terminal 100. This is possible in particular because the amplification means of the transmission / reception means are supplied by the sector. The base 200 also has “hands-free” functions.
These “hands-free” functions allow the user of the mobile terminal 100 to talk in a known manner without having to hold the terminal. To this end, the base 200 comprises a microphone 250 and a loudspeaker 260 connected to the management unit 230. An embodiment has been described in which the terminal 100 comprises an antenna socket, which allows to deactivate the transmission / reception means of the terminal. However, other modes of implementation can be envisaged. In particular, provision can be made for works in which the transmission / reception means of the terminal would not be deactivated. Furthermore, provision may also be made for the terminal to communicate with the base via a wireless link. This applies in particular to terminals communicating by radio link over short distances, for example by Bluetooth technology. The device of the invention can also integrate coupling functions with a local wired network. To this end, the base 200 can be connected to the local wired telephone network by means of a pull-out socket 280. The management unit 230 then comprises means for converting the electrical signals received from the wired network to transmit them via the “hands-free” connection 232 to the terminal 100. Conversely, the management unit 230 also comprises means for converting the signals transmitted by the terminal 100 via the “hands-free” connection 232 in electrical signals to reinject them on the local wired network Thus, a user can establish a telephone communication passing through the cellular network by using the fixed stations connected to the local wired network. Such a system is for example described in the document FR 2 801 140 (published on May 18, 2001) in the name of BOUYGUES TELECOM.
