Abstract

A cigarette (11) is equipped with a filter (15) incorporating nanofibers (17). The nanofibers can be used either alone or in conjunction with other filtering media such as larger fibers (41), paper (43), activated charcoal, etc. With a nanofiber filter, the filter need not be as dense as the molecules of the smoke become attracted to the nanofiber due to quantum mechanics instead of being sieved out. The efficacy of the filter is better than filters with larger diameter fibers.
