Abstract

An article of upper-body clothing including fabric defining a clothing body (100), fabric (112) defining at least one clothing sleeve (102) and being joined to the fabric defining a clothing body, in a manner which defines an opening (104) at an underarm region, and a resiliently stretchable material 106 joined to the fabric defining a clothing body and to the fabric defining at least one clothing sleeve to cover the opening.

Description

FLEXIBLE VENTILATED SLEEVE ATTACHMENT FIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0001] The present invention relates to clothing and more particular to jackets.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0004] The present invention seeks to provide an improved article of clothing.

[0005] There is thus provided in accordance with a preferred embodiment of the present invention an article of upper-body clothing including fabric defining a clothing body, fabric defining at least one clothing sleeve and being joined to the fabric defining a clothing body, in a manner which defines an opening at an underarm region, and a resiliently stretchable material joined to the fabric defining a clothing body and to the fabric defining at least one clothing sleeve to cover the opemng.

[0006] Preferably, the fabric defining at least one clothing sleeve is joined to the fabric defining a clothing body along a seam which defines the opening. Additionally, the fabric defining at least one clothing sleeve overlaps the fabric defining a clothing body along a seam, which defines the opening, at the opening. Alternatively or additionally, the opening includes a ventilating opening and the resiliently stretchable material including a ventilating material.

[0007] In accordance with another preferred embodiment of the present invention the resiliently stretchable material is attached along a first edge thereof to the fabric of the clothing sleeve extending over the opening and is attached along a second edge thereof to a portion of the fabric defining a clothing body which underlies the opemng.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

[0011] Reference is now made to Fig. 1, which illustrates a jacket constructed and operative in accordance with a preferred embodiment of the present invention in an

"arms down" orientation. As seen in Fig. 1, there is provided a jacket of conventional outer appearance having a jacket body 100 to which are attached sleeves 102.

[0012] It is a particular feature of the present invention that, unseen from the outside, in the underarm region there is provided a ventilating opening 104 which is covered by a stretchable ventilating insert 106.

[0013] Turning specifically to the enlarged portions of Fig. 1, it is seen that in a preferred arrangement, in the underarm region generally indicated by an arrow 108, an edge 110 of a sleeve suiting fabric 112 is not stitched to a corresponding edge 114 of a jacket body suiting fabric 116. Rather portions of the suiting fabric adjacent edges 110 and 114 are arranged in mutually overlapping relationship as indicated by arrow 118 and designated XI .

[0014] Preferably, stretchable ventilating insert 106, which is preferably formed of an open knit or woven fabric formed of LYCRA R, joins edge 110 and the jacket body suiting fabric 116 at a portion designated by reference numeral 120.

[0015] Reference is now made to Fig. 2, which illustrate the jacket of Fig. 1, in an orientation when the wearer raises his arms. It is seen that upon raising of the wearer's arm the edge 110 of the sleeve suiting fabric 112 is raised, without a corresponding raising of edge 114 of the jacket body suiting fabric 116. The amount of overlap is reduced from XI to X2 and is taken up by stretching of the stretchable ventilating insert 106.

[0016] An important feature resulting from the structure described above is that when a wearer of the jacket raises his arms, the jacket body is not raised correspondingly as heretofore.

[0017] A further important feature provided by the structure described above is ventilation of the underarm region via stretchable ventilating insert 106, as indicated diagrammatically by arrows 122 in Fig. 2.

[0018] It will be appreciated by persons skilled in the art that the present invention is not limited to what has been particularly shown and described hereinabove. Rather the scope of the present invention includes both combinations and subcombinations of the various features described hereinabove as well as modifications and variations thereof as would occur to a person of skill in the art upon reading the foregoing specification and which are not in the prior art.

Claims

C L A I M S

1. An article of upper-body clothing comprising: fabric defining a clothing body; fabric defining at least one clothing sleeve and being joined to said fabric defining a clothing body, in a manner which defines an opening at an underarm region; and a resiliently stretchable material joined to said fabric defining a clothing body and to said fabric defining at least one clothing sleeve to cover said opening.

2. An article of upper-body clothing according to claim 1 and wherein said fabric defining at least one clothing sleeve is joined to said fabric defining a clothing body along a seam which defines said opening.

3. An article of upper-body clothing according to claim 1 and wherein said fabric defining at least one clothing sleeve overlaps said fabric defining a clothing body along a seam, which defines said opening, at said opening.

4. An article of upper-body clothing according to claim 1 and wherein said opening comprises a ventilating opening and said resiliently stretchable material comprising a ventilating material.

An article of upper-body clothing according to claim 1 and wherein said resiliently stretchable material is attached along a first edge thereof to said fabric defining at least one clothing sleeve extending over said opemng and is attached along a second edge thereof to a portion of said fabric defining a clothing body which underlies said opening.

6. An article of upper-body clothing according to claim 2 and wherein said fabric defining at least one clothing sleeve overlaps said fabric defining a clothing body along said seam at said opening.

7. An article of upper-body clothing according to claim 2 and wherein said opening comprises a ventilating opening and said resiliently stretchable material comprising a ventilating material.

An article of upper-body clothing according to claim 2 and wherein said resiliently stretchable material is attached along a first edge thereof to said fabric defining at least one clothing sleeve extending over said opemng and is attached along a second edge thereof to a portion of said fabric defining a clothing body which underlies said opening.

9. An article of upper-body clothing according to claim 3 and wherein said opening comprises a ventilating opening and said resiliently stretchable material comprising a ventilating material.

An article of upper-body clothing according to claim 3 and wherein said resiliently stretchable material is attached along a first edge thereof to said fabric defining at least one clothing sleeve extending over said opening and is attached along a second edge thereof to a portion of said fabric defining a clothing body which underlies said opening.
