Abstract

Methods of preparing a transgenic non-human animals or animal cells resistant to infection by a pathogen, the methods comprising introducing into the genome of a non-human animal cell a nucleic acid encoding an invert repeat ribonucleic acid (RNA) sequence which when expressed inhibits infection of the cell by said pathogen by means of selective degradation of a ribonucleic acid of said pathogen or of said cell that is essential for infection to occur. Non-human animals, non-human animal cells or non-human animal embryos produced by these methods are also provided.
