ADVERTISING SYSTEM FOR SUBWAY AND METHOD OF CONTROLLING THE SAME
Technical Field
The present invention relates, in general, to an advertising system for a subway and, more particularly, to an advertising system for a subway and method of controlling the advertising system, which projects moving picture advertisements on a screen installed within a subway station to provide advertisements for specific commodities to passengers waiting on a platform for a subway train.
Background Art
The subway is the representative means of public transportation, and as several thousands to several tens of thousands of persons use the subway every day, requirements for advertisements provided to subway passengers have been increased. An advertisement poster is the representative example of subway advertisements and is attached to a predetermined position in a subway train or a subway station to provide an advertisement for a specific commodity to subway passengers.
However, such a poster is problematic in that since it advertises only a single specific commodity while occupying a certain area, advertising efficiency is decreased, and subway passengers may lose interest and the advertising effects are greatly decreased in the case where an advertisement poster containing the same content is attached to a certain location for a long period.
In order to solve the above problem, there has been developed and used an advertising apparatus in which several advertisement posters are integrally connected to each other, wound around a roller or the like, and then periodically rotated, thus advertising a plurality of different commodities. However, this
advertising apparatus is problematic in that it advertises only a limited number of commodities and it provides advertisements in the form of static posters, so that the advertising effects on modern persons familiar to moving pictures are negligible.
Disclosure of the Invention
Accordingly, the present invention has been made keeping in mind the above problems occurring in the prior art, and an object of the present invention is to provide a an advertising system for the subway and method of controlling the advertising system, which projects moving picture advertisements on a screen through a projector installed within a subway station, thus providing advertisements for a plurality of commodities to passengers waiting on a platform for a subway train.
In accordance with one aspect of the present invention, the above object can be accomplished by the provision of an advertising system for a subway, comprising at least one screen installed between tracks for both directions so as to allow passengers waiting for a subway train to view the screen; first and second sensors for detecting the subway train about to enter and depart a subway station, respectively; and at least one projector for projecting moving picture advertisements on the screen, the projector being operated in response to outputs from the first and second sensors, that detect the subway train about to enter and depart the subway station, respectively, thus projecting the moving picture advertisements on the screen.
In accordance with another aspect of the present invention, there is provided an advertising system for a subway, comprising at lease one projector for projecting moving picture advertisements on at least one screen installed within a subway station; an operating computer for transmitting stored moving picture advertisement data to the projector; first and second sensors for detecting a subway train about to enter and depart the subway station, respectively; and a
control unit comprising a clock for counting a current time, a controller for generating control signals used to control operations of both the projector and the operating computer in response to outputs from both the sensors and the clock, first and second relays for performing ON/OFF control operations of both the projector and the operating computer by switching power in response to a control signal output from the controller, and an interface unit for performing communication between the controller and the operating computer.
Further, the controller may be operated so that, if a subway train about to enter the subway station is detected by the first sensor, the controller controls the operating computer to suppress outputting of the moving picture advertisement data transmitted to the projector, while if a subway train about to depart the subway station is detected by the second sensor, the controller controls the operating computer to release the suppression of the moving picture advertisement data and then restart transmission of the moving picture advertisement data to the proj ector.
Further, the controller may be operated so that, if a current time detected by the clock during an operation of the system reaches a subway train operation termination time, the controller intercepts power supplied to both the projector and the operating computer by turning off the first and second relays, while if a current time detected by the clock reaches a subway train operation start time, the controller supplies power to both the projector and the operating computer by turning on the first and second relays and then drives both the projector and the operating computer.
In accordance with a further aspect of the present invention, there is provided a method of controlling an advertising system for a subway, the advertising system projecting moving picture advertisements on at least one screen through at least one projector installed within a subway station and thus providing the advertisements, comprising the steps of a) turning on both the projector and an operating computer, which transmits moving picture advertisement data to the projector, if a current time reaches a subway train
operation start time, thus projecting the moving picture advertisements on the screen; b) controlling the operating computer to suppress outputting of the moving picture advertisement data transmitted to the projector if a subway train about to enter the subway station is detected during an execution of step a); c) controlling the operating computer to release the suppression of the moving picture advertisement data transmitted to the projector and then restart projection of the moving picture advertisements on the screen if the subway train having entered the subway station at step b) departs the subway station; and d) turning off the advertising system by intercepting power supplied to both the projector and the operating computer if a current time reaches a subway train operation termination time while the moving picture advertisements are provided at step c).

Best Mode for Carrying Out the Invention
Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the attached drawings.
FIG. 1 is a view schematically showing the construction of an advertising system for the subway according to the present invention, FIG. 2 is a view showing an example of the installation of a projector of FIG. 1, and FIG. 3 is a view showing an example of the installation of sensors of FIG. 1. The advertising system of the present invention includes at least one projector 10 for projecting moving picture advertisements on at least one screen 50 installed between subway platforms 60 for both directions, an operating computer 40 for storing data on the moving picture advertisements to be projected by the projector 10 and performing the edition of the advertisement data and other operations, first and second sensors 21 and 22 for detecting a subway train about to enter and depart a subway station, respectively, and a control unit 30 for controlling an entire operation of the advertising system.
The screen 50 is preferably placed between pillars installed between the subway platforms 60 for both directions or on a wall surface of each pillar so as not to prevent the operation of a subway train. As shown in FIG. 2, the projector 10 is fixed to the ceiling of the subway station to project the moving picture advertisements on the screen 50 installed between the subway platforms 60 for both directions. As shown in FIG. 3, the first and second sensors 21 and 22 are installed at both ends of each of the platforms 60 to detect the subway train about to enter and depart the subway station, respectively. The operating computer 40 is installed at a predetermined position within the subway station and transmits the moving picture advertisement data to the projector 10 under the control of the control unit 30.
In the meantime, the control unit 30 includes a power supply unit 34 for supplying driving power to the control unit 30 itself and driving power to the sensors 21 and 22, a real time clock 35 for counting a current time, and a controller 31 for generating control signals used to control the operations of both the projector 10 and the operating computer 40 in response to outputs from the sensors 21 and 22 and the clock 35. Further, the control unit 30 includes a first relay 32 for performing
ON/OFF control operations of the projector 10 by switching power supplied to the projector 10 in response to a control signal output from the controller 31, a second relay 38 for performing ON/OFF control operations of the operating computer 40 by switching power supplied to the operating computer 40 in response to a control signal output from the controller 31, and a RS-232C interface unit 37 for performing communication between the controller 31 and the operating computer 40.
Reference numeral 33, not described, designates a buffer for temporarily storing output signals from the first and second sensors 21 and 22, and reference numerals 36a to 36c designate memories for storing control programs and preset data. Further, although a single screen 50 and a single projector 10 are installed with respect to each of subway platforms for both directions in the drawings, the number of screens and projectors to be installed can be adjusted depending on the length of the platform 60. Hereinafter, a method of controlling the advertising system for the subway according to the present invention having the above construction is described in detail with reference to FIG. 4.
When a subway train is not operating, the advertising system is turned off so as to reduce unnecessary power consumption. That is, the first and second relays 32 and 38 are turned off under the control of the controller 31, thus intercepting the power supplied to both the projector 10 and the operating computer 40 and performing a standby mode in which only minimum power is supplied to the control unit 30.
If a current time detected by the clock 35 in the standby mode reaches a subway train operation start time at step ST101, the controller 31 turns on the advertising system to provide advertisements to subway passengers at step ST102. That is, the controller 31 turns on the first and second relays 32 and 38 by outputting a control signal, thus driving both the projector 10 and the operating computer 40. Moving picture advertisement data are transmitted to the projector 0 10 from the driven operating computer 40, and then projected on the screen 50
through the projector 10.
On the other hand, if the current time detected by the clock 35 during the operation of the system reaches a subway train operation termination time at step ST 103, the controller 31 turns off the advertising system so as to reduce uimecessary power consumption as described above at step ST 104. In other words, the controller 31 turns off the first and second relays 32 and 38 by outputting a control signal. Therefore, the power supplied to both the projector 10 and the operating computer 40 is intercepted, and a standby mode in which only minimum power is supplied to the control unit 30 is performed. In the meantime, if a subway train about to enter the subway station is detected by the first sensor 21 installed on a platform 60 of a subway train entering side while the projector 10 projects moving picture advertisements on the screen 50 and then provides the advertisements, with the operation of the system at step ST105, the controller 31 informs the operating computer 40 of the entrance of the subway train through the interface unit 37. Therefore, the operating computer 40 suppresses the outputting of the moving picture advertisement data transmitted to the projector 10 at step ST 107. A reason for this operation is that the subway train having entered the subway station is disposed between the projector 10 and the screen 50 and thus prevents the moving picture advertisements from being projected on the screen.
If the subway train about to depart the subway station is detected by the second sensor 22 installed on a platform 60 of a subway train departing side while the projection of the moving picture advertisements is suppressed at step ST 106, the controller 31 informs the operating computer 40 of the departure of the subway train through the interface unit 37. Therefore, the operation computer
40 releases the suppression of the moving picture advertisement data transmitted to the projector 10 to restart the transmission of the moving picture advertisement data to the projector 10 at step ST 108.
Although the outputting of only moving picture advertisement data is described in the above embodiments, audio data corresponding to the moving
picture advertisement data are also associated with the moving picture advertisement data. That is, with the entrance and departure of a subway train, the audio data are output or muted. This scheme can be implemented by those skilled in the art through the above construction, so that a detailed description thereof is omitted.
Industrial Applicability
As described above, the present invention provides an advertising system for the subway and method of controlling the advertising system, which provides advertisements for a plurality of commodities to passengers waiting on a platform for a subway train by projecting moving picture advertisements on a screen through a projector installed within a subway station, thus increasing advertising efficiency, and which does not project advertisements while a subway train enters or departs the subway station, and only projects the advertisements on the screen only when the subway train does not exist in the subway station, thus maximizing advertising effects.
Although the preferred embodiments of the present invention have been disclosed for illustrative purposes, those skilled in the art will appreciate that various modifications, additions and substitutions are possible, without departing from the scope and spirit of the invention as disclosed in the accompanying claims.
