Abstract

An extractor fan system is provided, in which an extractor fan is manually or automatically operated. An extractor fan can be set to operate automatically if a pollution level in room air exceeds over a predetermined level. In this case, the extractor fan system detects whether a pollution level exceeds over the predetermined level. When the extractor fan system judges that the former exceeds over the latter, the extractor fan is made to operate. Also, the extractor fan system enables a user to identify a pollution level of the room air with the naked eye.

Description

AN EXTRACTOR FAN SYSTEM
Technical Field
The present invention relates to an extractor fan
system, and more particularly, to an extractor fan system
having an extractor fan which is manually or automatically
operated, in which the extractor fan can be set to operate
automatically if a pollution level in room air exceeds
over a predetermined level, in which case, since the
extractor fan system detects whether a pollution level
exceeds over the predetermined level, when the extractor
fan system judges that the former exceeds over the latter,
to thereby make the extractor fan operate, and to enable
a user to identify a pollution level of the room air with
the naked eye as well.
Background Art
In general, homes, office buildings, factories or
parking lots are isolated from external atmosphere to
accordingly form a closed space. As a result, if a closed state is maintained for a
long time, internal air is polluted to cause residents
to suffer from harm to their healths.
Thus, in the case of homes or office buildings,
windows are periodically opened or closed to ventilate
room air. However, since there are no opening and closing
facilities for natural ventilation such as windows, in
most of underground facilities or factories making noise,
forced power-driven extractor or ventilating fans for
ventilating air are installed.
As is well known, when electric power is applied to
an extractor fan, the fan is rotated by a rotational force
of a power-driven motor, to thereby forcibly discharge
room air externally.
FIG. 1 is a perspective view showing a conventional
extractor fan (10), and FIG. 2 is a block diagram
schematically illustrating the operational principle of
the conventional extractor fan 10. As shown in FIGs. 1
and 2, the extractor fan 10 includes a fan 16 installed
in a case 12 of a predetermined size which is installed on one side in a building to communicate from external
air, a motor 14 which rotates the fan 16 according to a
supply of power, and a switching unit 18 which supplies
or interrupts power for the motor 14.
Thus, a user manipulates the switching unit 18 as
necessary, to supply power to the motor 14 and drive the
fan 16 to thereby ventilate room air.
However, in the case of the conventional extractor
fan, a user must judge whether a pollution level in room
air exceeds over a predetermined level and then directly
manipulate a switching unit if the former exceeds over
the latter. This may impose a user to a heavy burden of
judging a pollution level. Also, since it is not so easy
to accurately judge a pollution level of room air with
only the naked eye or the sense of smell, it happens that
an extractor fan is not operated even at a point in time
the extractor fan should be operated, to accordingly cause
residents to breathe polluted air to suffer damage.
Disclosure of the Invention To solve the above problems, it is an object of the
present invention to provide an extractor fan system having
an extractor fan which is manually or automatically
operated, in which the extractor fan can be set to operate
automatically if a pollution level in room air exceeds
over a predetermined level, in which case, since the
extractor fan system detects whether a pollution level
exceeds over the predetermined level, when the extractor
fan system judges that the former exceeds over the latter,
to thereby make the extractor fan operate, and to enable
a user to identify a pollution level of the room air with
the naked eye as well.
To accomplish the above objects of the present
invention, according to an aspect of the present invention,
there is provided an extractor fan system comprising: a
pollution detection sensor which is installed in one side
of a case to detect a pollution level and an offensive
odor; a display which is formed in the front face of the
case to display a pollution level detected by the pollution
detection sensor to be identified with the naked eye; a set unit which converts a switching unit into an automatic
mode or a manual mode; and a controller which is connected
in circuitry to the pollution detection sensor, the display,
a motor and the switching unit, to thereby apply power
to the motor and a fan to operate when a pollution level
detected by the pollution detection sensor exceeds over
a predetermined level, if an automatic mode is set in the
set unit.

The above object and other advantages of the present
invention will become more apparent by describing the
preferred embodiment thereof inmore detail with reference
to the accompanying drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view showing a conventional
extractor fan;
FIG. 2 is a block diagram schematically illustrating
the operational principle of the conventional extractor
fan; FIG. 3 is a perspective view showing an extractor
fan system according to the present invention; and
FIG. 4 is a block diagram schematically illustrating
the operational principle of the extractor fan system
according to the present invention.
Best Mode for Carrying out the Invention
Hereinbelow, an extractor fan system according to
the present invention will be described with reference
to the accompanying drawings. Since the same elements
as those of the conventional extractor fan shown in FIGs.
1 and 2 are assigned the same reference numerals as those
of the conventional extractor fan, the detailed
description thereof will be omitted.
As shown in FIGs. 3 and 4, in an extractor fan system
according to the present invention, a pollution detection
sensor 30 is installed in one side of a case 12 to detect
a pollution level and an offensive odor.
A display 32 is formed in the front face of the case
to display a pollution level detected by the pollution detection sensor 30 to be identified with the naked eye.
The pollution detection sensor 30 and the display
32 are connected in circuitry to a controller 36. The
controller 36 is connected to a set unit 34 which converts
a switching unit 18 into an automatic mode or a manual
mode, as well as a motor 14 and the switching unit 18.
Thus, if a manual mode is set in the set unit 34,
power is supplied to the motor 14 directly to drive the
fan 16, when a user turns on the switching unit 18. When
the switching unit 18 is turned off, power is interrupted
to make the motor 14 and the fan 16 stop the operation.
Meanwhile, if an automatic mode is set in the set
unit 34, the switching unit 18 is turnedonto supply power .
If power is supplied, the pollution detection sensor 30
detects a pollution level and an offensive odor, and the
display 32 displays the pollution level detected by the
pollution detection sensor 30.
Thus, when the pollution level and offensive odor
detected by the pollution detection sensor 30 exceeds over
predetermined values, the controller 36 controls power to be supplied to the motor 14, to thereby drive the motor
14 and the fan 16. When the pollution level and offensive
odor detected by the pollution detection sensor 30 do not
exceed over predetermined values, power is not supplied
to the motor 14, to thereby make the motor 14 and the fan
16 stop the operation.
Industrial Applicability
As described above, the extractor fan system
according to the present invention includes a pollution
detection sensor which is installed in one side of a case
to detect a pollution level and an offensive odor, and
a display which is formed in the front face of the case
to display the pollution level detected by the pollution
detection sensor to be identified with the naked eye.
Accordingly, the extractor fan system according to the
present invention provides an automatic mode where the
extractor fan is automatically operated when a pollution
level detected by the pollution detection sensor exceeds
over a predetermined level, and a manual mode where the extractor fan is manually operated as necessary. As a
result, the present invention provides an effect of
removing a burden of manipulating a switching unit to
operate an extractor fan whenever a user wishes to
ventilate room air.
Also, although it is judged subjectively in the
conventional art whether a pollution level of room air
which is not accurately measured with only the naked eye
or the sense of smell exceeds over a predetermined level,
an extractor fan in the present invention is automatically
operated at a point in time the extractor fan should be
operated .
Also, since indoor residents can recognize a pollution
level in room air with the naked eye in the present invention,
the room air can be ventilated by using other means in
addition to an extractor fan when a pollution level
detected by a pollution detection sensor is high, to
thereby provide an effect of preventing the residents from
breathing the polluted air.
As described above, the present invention has been described with respect to particularly preferred
embodiments . However, the present invention is not limited
to the above embodiments, and it is possible for one who
has an ordinary skill in the art to make various
modifications and variations, without departing off the
spirit of the present invention.

Claims

What is claimed is :
1. An extractor fan system having a fan (16) provided
in a case (12) of a predetermined size, a motor (14) which
rotates the fan (16) according to a supply of power, and
a switching unit (18) which supplies or interrupts power,
the extractor fan system comprising:
a pollution detection sensor (30) which is installed
in one side of a case (12) to detect a pollution level
and an offensive odor;
a display (32) which is formed in the front face of
the case to display a pollution level detected by the
pollution detection sensor (30) to be identified with the
naked eye;
a set unit (34) which converts a switching unit (18)
into an automatic mode or a manual mode; and
a controller (36) which is connected in circuitry
to the pollution detection sensor (30) , the display (32) ,
a motor (14) and the switching unit (18) , to thereby apply
power to the motor (14) and a fan (16) to operate when a pollution level detected by the pollution detection
sensor (30) exceeds over a predetermined level, if an
automatic mode is set in the set unit (34).
