Abstract

The invention relates to a lighting unit for vehicles, comprising a plurality of semiconductor light sources (3) that are arranged so as to be distributed within a grid (4). Said grid of semiconductor light sources is divided into at least two grid segments (11, 12) which can be independently triggered and/or are associated with a different light function. The inventive lighting unit further comprises a lens (2) in the path of a light beam emitted by the semiconductor light sources. The semiconductor light sources are disposed on a common carrier substrate (5) located in a common housing. The lighting unit also comprises a housing cover that is transparent to light in the direction in which the light spreads. The interior of the housing is filled with a light-scattering and/or light color-influencing additional material (8).
