Definitions
- the invention relates to a connector for a fuel pump with a receptacle in which a plug with electrical contacts for connecting an electric motor of a fuel pump to a power supply is arranged, the plug being extrusion-coated with plastic.
- Such connectors are used in fuel pumps of today's motor vehicles to terminate a common housing of the electric motor and a pump stage and are known from practice.
- the electrical contacts are inserted through the openings provided in the connector for installation.
- a sealing ring arranged in the area of the electrical contacts prevents fuel from escaping. This makes it possible for the delivery pressure generated by the fuel to be held by the connection piece and to be fed to a connection piece of a flow line.
- a disadvantage of the known connector is the cost of the sealing ring and its assembly.
- the electrical contacts may damage the plastic connector when the connector is installed.
- the invention is based on the problem of designing a connector of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that it is particularly simple to manufacture and assemble.
- the plug has a one-piece, circumferential sealing lip sitting.
- the sealing lip is manufactured in one step with the plastic encapsulation of the connector.
- connection piece according to the invention does not require a sealing ring for sealing the plug and therefore particularly few components to be assembled. It is not necessary to overmold the plug to seal it against adjacent components of the connecting piece according to the invention.
- the connector according to the invention is therefore particularly easy to manufacture.
- a good seal of the plug in the connection piece is achieved if the sealing lip is arranged in the area of the passage of the electrical contacts on the plug.
- the sealing lip has an area pointing in the direction of the electrical contacts.
- Such an alignment of the sealing lip has the advantage that the sealing lip is deformed when the plug is installed in the connector.
- An elastic deformation of the sealing lip also causes the sealing lip to be under tension in the assembled state, which increases the sealing effect.
- the preassembly of the plug in the receptacle is particularly simple if the receptacle and the plug have corresponding locking means.
- the locking means thus serve as an assembly aid for the connector.
- the connector known from practice has an inserted metal bearing bush for mounting a shaft of the electric motor of the fuel pump.
- a cup-shaped recess designed as a bearing eye for direct mounting of the shaft of the electric motor is arranged. As a result, it is no longer necessary to insert and fasten a separately manufactured bearing bush in the connecting piece according to the invention.
- An integration of a large number of components in the connector according to the invention can be achieved easily if two guides for brushes of the electric motor connected to the plug are arranged next to the receptacle.
- the connecting piece according to the invention can be manufactured particularly inexpensively from plastic in the injection molding process and simply axially removed from the injection mold if the receptacle, the guides and the cup-shaped recess are arranged parallel to one another.
- connection piece according to the invention can be avoided with particularly little construction effort if an earth conductor protruding from the plug is led to a lower edge of the connection piece provided for connection to a housing of the electric motor.
- FIG. 1 schematically a fuel pump with a connection piece according to the invention
- FIG. 2 the connector according to the invention
- FIG. 3 a greatly enlarged illustration of a detail III of the connecting piece according to the invention from FIG. 2.
- FIG. 1 shows a fuel pump with a pump stage 2 of a motor vehicle driven by an electric motor 1 and with a connecting piece 4 fastened on a housing 3.
- connection piece 4 has a connection piece 5 for a flow line leading to an internal combustion engine of the motor vehicle. Furthermore, the connector 4 has electrical contacts 6 for the electric motor 1 of the fuel pump.
- FIG. 2 shows the connector 4 of Figure 1 in an enlarged partial section.
- the electrical contacts 6 are arranged on a plug 7.
- the plug 7 is extrusion-coated with a plastic jacket 8, from which choke coils 9 and two brushes 10 for a collector of the electric motor 1 from FIG. 1 protrude.
- the brushes 10 are guided in elongated guides of the connector 4 and by means of a spring element biased in the direction of the electric motor 1 shown in Figure 1.
- the plug 7 is held by latching means 11 in a receptacle 12 of the connector 4 and penetrates with an edge 13 of a recess 14 of the connector 4.
- the connector 4 has a pot-shaped recess in its center for direct mounting of a shaft of the electric motor 1.
- An earth conductor 16 is guided from the plug 7 to the lower edge of the connector 4.
- FIG. 3 shows the area of the edge 13 of the plug 7 and the recess 14 of the connector 4 in a greatly enlarged manner. It can be seen here that the plastic jacket 8 of the connector 7 is in direct contact with the recess 14 of the connector 4 via its edge 13. A circumferential sealing lip 17 is integrally formed on the plastic jacket 8 of the plug 7 in the area of the electrical contacts 6. The sealing lip 17 has a region 18 which points in the direction of the electrical contacts 6, so that the sealing lip 17 is connected to the connecting piece 4 in the assembled state.
- an overpressure arises within the housing 3, which acts on the plug 7 and thus on the sealing lip 17 and thus prestresses the sealing lip 17 against the connector 4.
- the edge 13 of the plug 7 and the connecting piece 4 are made of a plastic which is capable of swelling in fuel and have a transition fit or press fit.
- the plug 7 is thus inserted into the receptacle 12 of the connector 4 for assembly until the latching means 11 hold the plug 7 in position.
- the edge 13 and the recess 14 swell and thus additionally seal the connector 7 against the connector 4.
