Definitions

  • the invention relates to a steering gear for a motor vehicle steering system with electric drive means for increasing the steering force (so-called electric power steering or electric steering).
  • the steering force is transferred via a drive pinion to a rack that is in engagement with it and surrounded by an elongated tubular housing! and is led.
  • the invention has for its object to reduce the manufacturing and / or material costs for the housing surrounding the rack in a steering gear for electric power steering systems in motor vehicles.
  • housing tubes of cylindrical tube quality that are not formed in one piece are used for the transmission housing, but rather tubular housing composed of several parts.
  • the housing parts can be produced from sheet metal, in particular sheet steel, and formed by deep drawing into the shell-shaped and elongated housing parts used according to the invention. Two or more of these shell shells are over their Longitudinal edges assembled so that there is a cavity closed in the longitudinal direction. This can have a rounded or angular shape in cross section.
  • the stacked housing part shells must be firmly connected to one another at their edges.
  • optional inventive designs consist in connecting the longitudinal edges of adjoining shells to one another by longitudinal welding. Fusion welding with a high energy density (for example laser welding) can be considered as a suitable welding method. It is also conceivable to use joining methods with the aid of molten additional metals (solders), such as brazing, to form the longitudinal seams for the purpose of connecting the partial housing shells.
  • the longitudinal edges of adjoining housing part shells can be connected to one another by forming-joining (for example flanging).
