Abstract

This invention concerns a protective trimming for shirt collars and cuffs, which includes a protective strip (11) with an adhesive side (12) to be fitted with possibility of removing, to the inside of the collar or cuffs of a shirt so as to cover the surrounding cloth and prevent direct contact with the skin of the person wearing the shirt. The protective trimming may be of a length equal to the size of the part to protect or a maximum length which can be selectively reduced.

Description

"PROTECTIVE TRIMMINGS FOR SHIRT COLLARS AND CUFFS"
* * *
Field of the Invention
This invention concerns shirt making and refers in particular to a means of protection to be applied to the inside of the collar and cuffs of clothes such as shirts or similar. Prior Art
In the above mentioned field, the use of rigid plastic or other material applied to the collar of shirts when they are ironed and packaged during production is well known. These elements however are used only to support and maintain the shape the shirt collar during the marketing phase and are removed and thrown away when the shirt is worn. Therefore their function is not related to the use of the shirt.
It is however well known that the inside of the collar and cuffs are the parts of the shirt most subject to wear and getting dirty, and the small creases formed in the cloth, being the part most in contact with the skin of the wearer, gets even dirtier.
Consequently, when a shirt has to be washed, it is not sufficient just to put it in the washing machine, but collar and cuffs have to be pre-washed by hand to avoid them not getting thoroughly washed, as often happens when dry cleaned.
This obviously leads to a waste of time and energy, and besides, the energetic action used in pre-washing by hand is also a cause of wear of the cloth on the collar and cuffs which adds to the normal wear deriving from the use of the shirt.
As far as is known, at present there is no specific protection to prevent or limit shirt collars and cuffs from getting over dirty when being worn. Object and Summary of the Invention
This invention is therefore directed at filling this lack, so as to remove the aforementioned inconveniences and drawbacks regarding shirts.
It is, in fact, the main objective of the invention to provide a protective disposable type trimming, easy to achieve and use, to be applied on collar and cuffs and easy to remove, so as to protect these parts from direct contact with the skin of the wearer, consequently reducing the possibilities of them getting dirty and they wear and facilitating accurate washing.
This object is achieved with a protective trimming which comprises, in accordance with claim 1 , a protective strip with an adhesive side for removable application inside the collar or cuffs of a shirts to cover the surrounding cloth and to prevent direct contact with the skin of the person wearing the shirt, the protective strip being removed before the shirt is washed.
Brief Description of the Drawings This invention, however, will be described hereinafter in detail, with reference to the enclosed indicative and non limiting drawings of a practical example of protective trimming to be applied on the shirt collar.
In said drawings:
Fig. 1 shows a protective trimming as estended; Fig. 2 shows the trimming folded and in partial section to show its components;
Fig.3 shows the trimming in an application/removal phase on a shirt collar; and Fig.4 shows the trimming together with others forming a roll.
As shown, the protective trimming includes a strip 11 with an adhesive side 12. The strip 11 can be cloth, veil, paper or other appropriate material, white or coloured, as long as it transpires, is anallergic and does not irritate the skin it comes into contact with. The adhesive side 12 - Figs 1 and 2 - may be made up of a two-side adhesive layer 13, which adheres on one side to the trimming and on the other is covered, originally, by a protective film 14, removable at the moment of use of the trimming.
Each protective trimming according to the invention can be prepared and supplied individually, but more advantageously, from the marketing point of view, it will be linked in line with several other analogous trimmings which can be covered and packed in a roll 15, as shown in fig. 4, or folded and placed side by side in a zigzag pattern.
The trimming can be cut in length and height depending on the size and shape of the shirt collar it is to be applied to. In this way protective trimmings are realised and available in different sizes corresponding to the usual shirt collar sizes, and so that each trimming does not overlap or become visible from the other side of the collar it is fitted to. But even more advantageously still, each trimming can be prepared from the start with a length such as to contain the largest size and be equipped, at least at one of its ends, with several cut/tear markings 16 which indicate the various smaller sizes. In this way, the trimming becomes universal, enabling the user to choose the size required, in compliance with the size of the shirt collar, by cutting/tearing the trimming along the most appropriate mark. In any case, at the moment of use, the user takes a trimming, removes the protective film to uncover the adhesive and applies it to the inside of the collar making it fit tightly - Fig.3 - before putting the shirt on. The strip is thus exposed to the direct contact with the skin, covering and protecting the surrounding cloth of the shirt collar. Later, when the trimming has become dirty, it is removed and thrown away, after which the shirt can be washed much more easily and accurately. In fact, the collar, protected by the trimming, will not be as dirty as it would have been if in direct contact with the skin of the user.
The same result follows, always within the scope of this invention, by preparing and using the specific protective trimmings shaped to be applied to the cuffs also to protect these parts of shirts.
