Abstract

The invention relates to an operating device for hangers, such as clothes hangers, which are each provided with at least one clamp, which device comprises: a buffer for containing a number of hangers, transport means for transporting hangers one by one out of the buffer to an operating position; and operating means for opening the at least one clamp of the hanger in the operating position.

Description

OPERATING DEVICE FOR A HANGER
The invention relates to an operating device for hangers, such as clothes hangers, which are each provided with at least one clamp.
Ready-made clothing is generally produced in countries where wages and costs are low. This clothing is then shipped in boxes to the countries where this clothing is sold. Because the clothing is shipped in boxes, it is necessary to first iron the clothes before they can be hung in the shop . There are specialist companies which take this clothing out of the boxes, irons and then hangs it on hangers . The racks with clothing are then transported to the shops .
The hanging of clothing is largely work done by hand, since hanging clothing on a hanger can hardly be automated. There are hangers provided with clamps. Such hangers are used mainly for trousers and the like. These trousers are then clamped, usually between two clamps arranged on the hanger. It is usual for the hanging of a pair of trousers on such a hanger to take place by hand. The person doing this must then open one clamp with one hand and hang a part of the trousers therein. The other clamp is then opened and the other part of the trousers is clamped therein. It is important however that the trousers are hung neatly on the hanger, since this enhances the appearance of the clothing when it hangs in the shop. It is therefore a frequent occurrence that the person will open and close the clamps once again so as to arrange the trousers properly centred and smoothly on the hanger. This opening of the clamps by the person is ergonomically unfavourable. Particularly when the clamps are new, the force required to open the clamps is relatively great. In addition, there is the drawback that when there are two or more clamps only one clamp can be opened at a time.
It is an object of the invention to provide a device with which the above stated drawbacks are obviated. This objective is achieved according to the invention with a device which comprises:
- a buffer for containing a number of hangers,
- transport means for transporting hangers one by one out of the buffer to an operating position; and - operating means for opening the at least one clamp of the hanger in the operating position.
Because the operating means open the at least one clamp of the hanger, the person has his/her hands free to hold the article of clothing correctly and arrange it in one operation between the clamp. Reopening of the clamps to hang the article of clothing properly is hereby obviated.
In one embodiment of the device according to the invention, the operating means comprise a beam displaceable between a first position and a second position. All clamps present on the hanger can be opened in one operation using this beam.
In another embodiment of the device according to the invention, the at least one clamp of the hanger is at least supported in the operating position by a supporting surface .
The beam is herein preferably displaceable in a direction substantially perpendicularly of the supporting surface. The clamps can hereby be reliably opened without the danger of the clamps shooting out from under the operating means .
In a preferred embodiment of the device according to the invention the operating means comprise at least one pneumatic cylinder. In one embodiment the operating beam can for instance be moved up and downward with this pneumatic cylinder. The use of a pneumatic cylinder has the advantage that there can be no leakage of a hydraulic fluid or the like, thereby ensuring that the clothing does not become dirty.
In yet another embodiment according to the invention, the buffer comprises two guide beams arranged vertically and parallel to each other, between which guide beams a stack of hangers can be placed. The hangers can thus be placed, from a box in which they are supplied, as a stack in the device, whereafter a large number of articles of clothing can be successively provided with hangers.
The guide beams preferably comprise an opening on the underside such that one hanger at a time can be pushed laterally out of the buffer. This provides a simple construction, while the buffer acts reliably.
In yet another embodiment of the device according to the invention, the transport means comprise at least one pneumatic cylinder for transporting one hanger at a time out of the buffer.
These and other features are further elucidated with reference to the annexed drawings.
Figures 1-4 show an embodiment of a device according to the invention in different positions.
Figure 1 shows the device 1 according to the invention. This device 1 consists of a table 2 on which two vertical guide profiles 3 are arranged. These latter form a buffer for clothes hangers 4. Profiles 3 are provided on the underside with an opening so that one hanger 4 can pass therethrough.
Provided behind buffer 3 is a pressing element 5 which is operated by a pneumatic cylinder 6. This pressing element 5 can slide a hanger out of buffer 3 (see figure 2) to a stop 7 (see figure 3) .
In this position a second pneumatic cylinder 8 can then be operated which carries an operating beam 9 downward from the shown position so that the outer ends of beam 9 press on the clamps 10 of hanger 4. Pressing element 5 can simultaneously be carried to the rear again to remove another hanger from buffer 3 in the subsequent cycle. Pneumatic cylinders 6, 8 can be operated by pedals 11. The person who has to arrange the clothing on the hangers can thus first operate cylinder 6, so that a hanger 4 is arranged against stop 7, and subsequently operate cylinder 8 so as to carry the operating beam 9 downward and open the clamps 10 of hanger 4. The article of clothing can then be introduced, whereupon cylinder 6 is operated again and operating beam 9 is moved upward. Clamps 10 hereby close and the article of clothing is arranged on the hanger. The hanger can then be removed from the stop 7 , and a new empty hanger can be supplied.
