Description

The present invention relates to an accessory, designated as a wrist rest, which aims to respond ergonomically to the problem of fatigue and injuries related to prolonged use of computer mice, or typing on an information keyboard or the like.
The existing wrist rests are accessories of various shape and size, independent or linked to a mouse pad or a keyboard, which generally appear as simple "cushions" of gel or foam, on which the user the computer mouse or keyboard can place his hand, wrist or forearm. This wrist rest can in particular have the shape of a rectilinear bar, placed in front of a keyboard, or even a shape more gathered in crescent. By way of example, reference is made here to documents US 5730711, US 6048325 and WO 98/20775. Such wrist rests have various drawbacks or inadequacies.
First, the wrist or forearm is placed on these accessories exactly where the veins and tendons pass, which provide blood circulation and hand movements, and where is also the carpal tunnel. The support of this area of the wrist thus involves a lack of circulation of the blood, from where cooling and tingling, as well as a discomfort in the movements, from where risks of lesions (tendinitis, lesions of the carpal tunnel).
In addition, the existing wrist rests being immobilized, either by their connection to the keyboard or the mouse pad, or by their adhesion to the surface of a desk if they are designed as independent accessories, the movements of the hand of the user, whether lateral movements (from right to left or vice versa) or angular movements, are carried out with wrist friction on the upper surface of said wrist rests. In addition to the discomfort they can cause, this friction can cause irritation or allergic reactions.
Finally, all existing wrist rests do not have an adjustment system that would allow them to be adapted, in particular in height, to the ergonomics of desks, mice and keyboards, which can only further increase the fatigue of the user. The invention therefore aims to avoid the drawbacks and inadequacies of existing products in this field and it therefore aims to provide a wrist rest providing a particularly ergonomic and suitable solution, in particular to avoid the user from fatigue and risks of injuries, especially in case of prolonged use, and with adjustment possibilities for a better adaptation to the user.
To this end, the subject of the invention is a wrist rest for using a computer mouse or a keyboard, which essentially consists of a base surface, intended to be placed and moved on a horizontal surface, and two lateral support elements, mounted substantially parallel to each other above the base surface, at a certain distance from each other, and provided for supporting the wrist or the front - user arm.
Advantageously, the base surface carries pads with low coefficient of friction, or itself constitutes a surface with low coefficient of friction, cooperating with the horizontal surface on which it is placed.
According to one embodiment of the invention, the two lateral support elements are elongated elements, of the cushion type, mounted parallel to one another on a common base, the lower part of which constitutes said base surface.
Preferably, the wrist rest object of the invention comprises means for adjusting the height of the two cushions or lateral support elements. In a particular embodiment, these adjustment means consist of an embodiment of the aforementioned base in two parts, with a lower part and an upper part which have complementary threads at their periphery, the more or less deep screwing of one part in the other making it possible to vary the height of the base, therefore the height at which the two cushions or lateral support elements are located, mounted on the upper part of said base. Preferably, the wrist rest, object of the invention, further comprises means for adjusting the spacing of the two cushions or lateral support elements. According to a particular embodiment, these spacing adjustment means comprise, on the one hand, a line-shaped slide closed on itself, formed in the upper part of the base, and on the other hand, guide elements provided at the base of the side cushions or support elements and slidably engaged in the slide, the latter having a symmetrical layout relative to the center of the upper part of the base, with various slide portions more or less distant from this center, thus defining at least two distinct spacing values for the cushions or support elements side. In another embodiment, also allowing adjustment of the spacing of the two lateral support elements, one of these elements is connected axially to a threaded rod, which passes through a corresponding tapped hole in the other element lateral support, which allows a spacing adjustment by screwing a lateral support element relative to the other. In the latter case, the respective lower parts of the two support elements themselves constitute the base surface, in the manner of feet, and no separate base is necessary.
Overall, an improved wrist rest is thus obtained, which has the following advantages: The support of the user's wrist or forearm is carried out on two cushions or lateral support elements, preferably adjustable in spacing, so that this support is located at the level of the two bones of the forearm, which are the radius and the ulna. The support thus produced completely frees the veins, tendons and carpal tunnel, which are located "in the air", between the two cushions or support elements.
The adjustment device makes it possible to adjust the spacing of the two lateral support elements, by simple rotation of the two elements relative to the base, or by screwing of one element relative to the other, depending on the size and / or morphology of the forearms, while maintaining the parallelism of these two support elements.
If the two lateral support elements are mounted on a base provided with a height adjustment system, the height of the wrist or forearm support is adaptable, according to the characteristics specific to each mouse d computer or each keyboard used. This adjustment is also carried out very simply, by screwing or unscrewing one part of the base on the other.
The whole being equipped at its base with skids with low coefficient of friction, in other words with high coefficient of sliding, the wrist rest is easily movable on a desk or on a work surface, to follow the lateral or angular movements of the hand, during work. Finally, the symmetrical structure of the wrist rest, and its wide base or other base surface, ensure its stability, preventing any tilting.
Thus, the wrist rest object of the invention adapts as well to the morphology of the user as to the computer material used, so that it constitutes a remarkably ergonomic product, while retaining a structure and simple adjustments. , this wrist rest avoids fatigue and injuries, even in the event of prolonged use of a computer mouse or keyboard. The invention will be better understood with the aid of the following description, with reference to the appended schematic drawings showing, by way of examples, two embodiments of this wrist rest:
Figure 1 est une vue d'ensemble, en perspective, d'un repose- poignet conforme à la présente invention ; Figure 2 est une vue de côté du repose-poignet de la figure 1 ;Figure 1 is an overall perspective view of a wrist rest according to the present invention; Figure 2 is a side view of the wrist rest of Figure 1;
Figure 3 est une vue partielle en coupe, à échelle agrandie, de ce repose-poignet ;Figure 3 is a partial sectional view, on an enlarged scale, of this wrist rest;
Figure 4 est une vue en plan par dessus de l'embase de ce repose- poignet : Figure 5 est une vue en perspective d'une autre forme de réalisation du repose-poignet, objet de l'invention ;Figure 4 is a plan view from above of the base of this wrist rest: Figure 5 is a perspective view of another embodiment of the wrist rest, object of the invention;
Figure 6 est une vue de côté du repose-poignet de la figure 5.Figure 6 is a side view of the wrist rest of Figure 5.
Referring to Figures 1 to 4, we will first describe a first embodiment of the wrist rest according to the invention. As shown in particular in FIG. 1, this wrist rest generally consists of a base 2 and two lateral support cushions 3 and 4. The base 2 has a generally cylindrical shape.
The two lateral cushions 3 and 4, of elongated shape, extend parallel to one another, and symmetrically, above the base 2 which serves as their support. These two cushions 3 and 4 can be produced in particular in textile material, foam or another similar flexible material, ensuring desirable comfort. Referring also to FIG. 2, the user's wrist or forearm 5 is supported on the two lateral cushions 3 and 4, taking place between these two cushions, above the base 2. Referring to Figure 3, the base 2 of the wrist rest consists of a lower part 6 and an upper part 7, coaxial. The lower part 6 has, at its periphery, an internal thread 8. The upper part 7 has, at its periphery, an external thread 9, complementary to the internal thread 8 and screwed into the latter. Thus, a more or less deep screwing of the upper part 7, in the lower part 6, makes it possible to vary the height H of the base 2, therefore the height of the two lateral support cushions 3 and 4.
Under the lower part 6 of the base 2 are fixed pads 10 with a low coefficient of friction (see FIGS. 2 and 3), by means of which the wrist rest is placed, and can easily move, on a horizontal surface such as the top surface of a desk, or any other work surface.
This device comprises a slide 11, in the form of a curved line closed on itself, formed on the circular upper face of the upper part 7 of the base 2. The layout of the slide 11 is symmetrical relative to the center C of said upper face, and it comprises various portions of slide, more or less close to or distant from the center C. In particular, we can here distinguish portions of the slide 11 close to the center C, portions moderately distant from the center C, and more distant parts of the center C.
Each lateral support cushion 3 or 4 has, at its base, a guide element 12 engaged and retained in the slide 11, and mounted to slide in this slide 11. The guide element 12 can in particular be presented as a double stud which, cooperating with the slide 11 of inverted "T" profile, ensures a determined orientation of the cushion 3 or 4, at each point of the slide 11.
Thanks to these provisions, the two lateral support cushions 3 and 4 can be brought, still in a position symmetrical to one another relative to the center C, on the various portions (more or less close to or distant from this center C) of the slide 11. The spacing E between the respective longitudinal axes A and B of the two cushions 3 and 4 is thus made changeable. As illustrated in FIG. 4, this spacing E can take a relatively small value E1, or an average value E2, or even a relatively high value E3. By sliding the guide elements 12 in the slide 11, therefore by rotation of the cushions 3 and 4 relative to the base 2, it is possible to pass from one spacing value to another.
Thus, there is provided a wrist rest adjustable in height and in spacing, as regards its two lateral support cushions 3 and 4. FIGS. 5 and 6 show a second embodiment of the wrist rest of the invention . The wrist rest here comprises two symmetrical lateral support elements 3 and 4, the spacing of which is adjustable by a device of the screw-nut type. More particularly, the first support element 3 is integral with a threaded rod 13, which is screwed into a complementary tapped hole 14 formed in the second support element 4. Thus, the screwing or unscrewing of an element of support 3, relative to the other support element 4, here allows direct adjustment of the spacing between these two support elements 3 and 4, for adapting the wrist rest to the size and morphology of the user's wrist or forearm. In the context of this other embodiment, FIGS. 5 and 6 also illustrate variants relating to the configuration of the wrist rest.
Thus, the two support elements 3 and 4 here consist each of a rigid, relatively thin piece, of the "wing" type, which is provided locally, in its upper part (in the use position), d 'A layer of more flexible material, respectively 3a, 4a, provided for the comfortable contact of the wrist or the forearm of the user. The rigid parts can be made of molded, rigid plastic, while the flexible layers 3a, 4a can be made of foam or rubber. It will also be noted that the respective lower parts 3b, 4b of the two rigid parts here themselves constitute the base surface, in the manner of the feet, these lower parts 3b, 4b being able to carry the pads 10 with a low coefficient of friction (the base of the first embodiment no longer existing). Finally, it should be noted that, to leave the upper part unobstructed, the threaded rod 13 here connects the lower parts 3b and 4b of the two support elements 3 and 4. One would not stray from the frame of the invention, as defined in the appended claims, by modifying the shapes of the two side cushions or support elements, in particular for better anatomical adaptation, or by making these cushions or support elements in any suitable material, or by providing other means, in particular with rotary cams, for adjusting the height and spacing of said cushions or support elements.
