Abstract

A wrist support comprising a wrist support with an adjustable strap b that allows the support to be releasable attached to the wrist of the user, the support has gliding means that allows the wrist support to move easily over a desk or table, the device prevents the user from straining their wrist when using a keyboard or mouse for example thereby preventing RSI. Preferably the wrist support is moulded into a semi elliptical shape and acts as a cradle for the wrist a with an extended section c to support the carpal area of the hand. The gliding means may be a single ball bearing d, and the height of the wrist support may be adjusted via a spring loaded twist lock adjuster f. The wrist support may have a disposable material e placed between the wrist support and the user for additional support and comfort. The strap may have hook and loop fastening means. Alternative gliding means may be used.

Description

I
MOBILE WRIST REST
This invention relates to a device for the prevention or relieve of carpal tunnel syndrome, by lifting the hand or hands off the desk or table. In the work place or at home in leisure time, more people than ever are now using a keyboard and mouse be it for gaming or writing etc, the wrist is now being put under more strain than ever which is now leading to more people complaining of RSI (Repetitive strain injury) or carpal tunnel syndrome the wrist is normally resting at an unusual angle which aids the onset of RSI or carpal tunnel. There are gel pads on the market, but these do not give the freedom of movement that most users require The invention will now be described with references to the drawings Figure 1 shows a 3 dimensional view Figure 2 shows a frontal view Figure 3 shows an operational view.
The wrist rest comprises of a bracelet like device which is semi elliptical in shape and acts as a cradle for the wrist to sit in (a) with a disposable cushioned liner for comfort (e) it also has a contoured section that supports the carpal area(c) which will not hinder movement or extend the fingers of the users hand, but will give support to the hand or hands and arm The rest is attached to the users wrist by means of a flexible cross over strap (b) with a separate fixing or fixings which can be adjusted to accommodate the size of the users wrist and will fit either left or right hand.
The rest has a round ball bearing at the bottom (d) which will flow over the desk, table or mat minimizing friction when in use, also incorporated is a spring loaded twist height adjuster (f) which will cater for all height variations.
The wrist supporting device that is worn on the users wrist will place the users hand or hands at the right angle to prevent or relieve the afore mentioned, the rest makes the users wrist assume the correct position when using a keyboard or mouse, see figure 3.

Claims (8)

  1. CLAIMS1. A bracelet semi elliptical in design flat in the bottom to sit the wrist in and short upturns to either side with moulded slots to accommodate securing devices.
  2. 2. The bracelet also has a moulding to the forward part which is specially formed to carry the carpal area this fits into the bottom part of the hand in a slight arc shape.
  3. 3. A disposable sponge type material can be fitted into the base area to give cushioned support for greater comfort.
  4. 4. The ball bearing on the bottom of said bracelet will allow gliding of the said apparatus to give unconditional movement on desk, table or mat with minimum friction, however it is maybe not the only gliding method that could be used.
  5. 5. A spring loaded twist lock height adjuster will be fitted in the bearing carrier to allow for all differing height adjustments.
  6. 6. The strap of the said device to be attached to the side of the bracelet via the indentations of the mouldings to secure the said bracelet to the wrist.
  7. 7. The closing on the straps to be Velcro like or any other closing device.
