Abstract

Device for breaking boulders comprising a drilling tool (1) for drilling a hole (3) in the boulder by means of a rock drilling machine (5) and a wedge (2) for entrance into the hole (3) for breaking of the boulder, whereby the wedge (2) is arranged slideably about the drilling tool (1), the drilling tool (1) is provided with radial projections (4), the rock drilling machine (5) is provided with an adapter (6) comprising an impact surface (7) and grooves (8), the adapter (6) in a first angular position is arranged to transfer impact energy from the rock drilling machine (5) via the impact surface (7) to the radial projections (4) on the drilling tool (1) and the adapter (6) in a second angular posiition is arranged to allow passage of the radial projections (4) through the grooves (8) so that the impact energy can be transferred from the rock drilling machine (5) via the adapter (6) to the wedge (2) for breaking of the boulder.

Description

Device for breaking boulders
The present invention relates to a device for breaking boulders in which a wedge is used to achieve the breaking action.
In a previously known device for breaking holders, see e.g. US-A 4168862, a tool is arranged in a predrilled hole. After that a wedge is driven in between springs to obtain the breaking action. This device has the drawback that it is comparatively slow because one must first drill the hole and then arrange the tool in the hole. Furthermore one must have a rock drilling machine to drill the hole and a tool with associated hydraulic aggregate for the breaking.
The present invention, which is defined in the subsequent claim, aims at achieving a tool by means of which the boulder breaking becomes much quicker at the same time as one avoids a separate hydraulic aggregate for the breaking itself.
An embodiment of the invention is- described below with reference to the accompanying drawing in which fig 1 shows a device according to the invention, partly in section, where a hole is drilled. Fig 2 shows a part of the device according to fig 1 arranged for breaking a boulder. Fig 3 shows a view according to 3-3 in fig 2.
The device for breaking boulders shown in the drawing comprises a rock drilling machine 5 to which an adapter 6 is connected. Furthermore the device comprises a rock drilling tool 1 about which a wedge 2 is slideably arranged. The drilling tool 1 is provided with a drill bit 11 and radial projections 4. The adapter 6 is provided with an impact surface 7 for cooperation with the radial projections 4 when the adapter 6 is in a first angular position and grooves 8 through which the radial projections 4 can pass when the adapter 6 is a second angular position. In the first angular position impact energy can be transferred from the rock drilling machine 5 via the impact surface 7 to the radial projections 4 on the drilling tool 1 for drilling of a hole 3 in a boulder. In the second angular position impact energy can be transferred from the rock drilling machine 5 via a flange 12 on the adapter 6 to the wedge 2 which through this is driven into the hole 3 for breaking the boulder. The device shown in the drawing works in the following way. When drilling of hole 3 the adapter ,6 is rotated clockwise in fig 3 so that the radial projections on the drilling tool 1 come on impact surface 7 through which the impact energy of the rock drilling machine 5 is transferred to the drilling tool. When the hole 3 has been drilled to the desired depth the adapter 6 is rotated counter clockwise in fig 3 so that the radial projections 4 take the positions shown in fig 3 through which the flange 12 on the adapter 6 is moved to the position shown in fig 2 for breaking the boulder.

Claims

Claim:
1. Device for breaking boulders comprising a drilling tool (1) for drilling a hole t
(3) in the boulder by means of a rock drilling machine (5) and a wedge (2) for entrance into the hole (3) for breaking of the boulder, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in that the wedge (2) is arranged slideably about the drilling tool (1), that the drilling tool (1) is provided with radial projections (4), that the rock drilling machine (5) is provided with an adapter (6) comprising an impact surface (7) and grooves (8), that the adapter (6) in a first angular position is arranged to transfer impact energy from the rock drilling machine (5) via the impact surface (7) to the radial projections (4) on the drilling tool (1) and that the adapter (6) in a second angular positiion is arranged to allow passage of the radial projections (4) through the grooves (8) so that the impact energy can be transferred from the rock drilling machine (5) via the adapter (6) to the wedge (2) for breaking of the boulder.
