Abstract

Carbonsäuren und/oder Carbonsäureanhydride werden in hoher Ausbeute durch mehrstufige Gasphasen-Oxidation eines aromatischen Kohlenwasserstoffs hergestellt, indem man in einer ersten Reaktionsstufe ein Gemisch erzeugt, das Intermediate mit einer zwischen dem aromatischen Kohlenwasserstoff und der Carbonsäure oder dem Carbonsäureanhydrid liegenden Oxidationsstufe enthält, das Gemisch in Intermediate niedriger Oxidationsstufe und Intermediate hoher Oxidationsstufe auftrennt, und die Intermediate hoher Oxidationsstufe in wenigstens einer weiteren Reaktionsstufe in Abwesenheit der Intermediate niedriger Oxidationsstufe zu der Carbonsäure und/oder dem Carbonsäureanhydrid oxidiert.
