Abstract

A shovel with a spring and piston at the base of the shaft that contracts absorbing the shock of hitting hard objects.

Description

NON SHOCK SHOVEL
BACKGROUND
As a GROUND WORKER / BLOCKPAVER shovels are used regularly everyday. When digging trenches and various differing holes, you some times exert an extreme amount of pressure on the shovel when striking hard objects, this may lead to injury in your elbow or shoulder and result in injury and time off work.
My invention is basically for the health and safety of the employee and employer. The benefit of the employee is to his own safety, and to the employer it could avoid paying out for work related injurys. This invention will reduce, and possibly stop, the risk of injury at work by absorbing the shock experienced when a shovel makes contact with hard objects in the ground.
The essential feature is a shock absorber at the base of the shovel. A visual of the idea is presented in the form of a schematic photo.
Figl. This shows the curved reinforced head of the shovel.
Fig2. This shows the shock absorber mounted inside the shaft Also see image in corner.
Fig3. This shows the actual reinforced shaft itself.
Fig4. This shows the shovel handle.
The images show the whole shovel with the shock absorber, this comprises a shaft mounted absorber at the base of the shovel. The shovel will provide a cushioning system that allows the implement to absorb the majority of the force that would normally be absorbed by the user. This image also shows how the absorber is encased inside the shaft providing durability and practicality.
Because of the decreased pressure that the shovel head will recieve, the shovel will last considerably longer than your ordinary one. This offers the customer a solution that is both physically and economically practical.
The majority of the population have used shovels regularly for gardening and various other outdoor jobs. The shovel will be used for decades to come and will always be an important part of any outdoor work enviroment.
The Non Shock Shovel will provide the user with an extra safety feature which will provide higher peace of mind for both employer and employee. Hopefully the workplace will become more safety minded and maybe this sort of safety tool will possibly become standard in this kind of work enviroment.
