Abstract

A device to prevent theft of an unattached trailer or the like having a socket designed to receive a ball of a towing vehicle. The device consists of a metal member designed to fill the socket so that an unauthorised user cannot use the socket to tow away the trailer, etc. Turning of key-operated shaft (6) of the device cause cams (7, 8) thereon to push pins (2, 3) outwardly. Pins (2, 3) are normally biased inwardly by springs (9, 10), however on being pushed out, they are received in bores specially provided in the socket so as to lock the device in the socket, preventing its use.

Description

TRAILER GUARD
This invention relates to improvements in antitheft devices for Trailer security, caravan boats and trailing units.
For many caravan, boat and trailer owners the lack of adequate security can be a real worry. There have been many proposals to secure a trailer but these are all external and can be easily overcome by cutting with either bolt cutters, gas, or any portable cutting equipment For example chains can be cut, other devices use padlocks these can be easily cut within seconds.
These problems can be eliminated with the present invention, Trailer Guard the Trailer Security Lock System. Trailer Guard provides a locking system that gives maximum security by inserting the lock into the coupling sealing the entire cavity in the new designed coupling, which has two holes either side on the inside to accommodate pins that are in the lock.
In this form of the invention Trailer Guard consists of a new design lock and coupling. The lock is moulded to the shape of the inside of the coupling; a ball shaped object with a flat base and a pin on either side. A key operated camshaft with two lobes to move pins in position, the pins fit into holes either side (on the inside) of the coupling sealing the coupUng and preventing it from being hitched to a tow ball and being stolen.
The lock and it's inner workings are made from stainless steel and the coupling is made from standard cast iron or similar material.
To assist with understanding this invention, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings, which show an example of the invention.
See following: In the drawings:
Fig. 1 shows an example of a trailer security lock device (1) with pin on side (2) and sleave (plug) ( 12).
Fig. 2 shows an example of the coupling external view.
Fig. 3 shows a front view of the lock causing (1) with the pins (2 & 3) on either side in lock position, the pins lock into holes inside the coupling.
Fig. 4 shows an example of the holes (4 & 5) on either side inside the coupling.
Fig. 5 shows an upside down inside view of lock showing camshaft (6) with lobes (7 & 8) pins (2 & 3) springs (9 & 10) and sleave(plug) (12 & 13).
Fig. 6 shows another inside view of lock (1) with camshaft (6) and lobes (7 & 8) pins (2 & 3), springs (9 & 10) and cavity (11) for the camlock key system to be fitted.

Claims

The claims definin *g& the invention are as follows:
1) A trailer security device comprising of a ball shaped object which is moulded to fit exactly into the coupling without leaving any space. Therefore when in place completely blocking the cavity in the coupling.
2) The trailer security device of claim (1) wherein the lock comprise of Two pins inside that are engaged when the cam turns lobes to move pins into lock position, the springs on each side enable pins to retract to unlock position when key is turned.
3) The trailer security device of claim (1) wherein the coupling comprise of two specially casted holes in the inside of the coupling.
4) The trailer security device of any of the claims (1) and (2) wherein the ball shaped lock and pins are made from stainless steel or similar material.
5) The trailer security device as herein before described with reference to the figures (1-6) of the accompanying drawings.
