and a corresponding second edge of said inner layer; and the container being characterized in that said first and said second edge are shaped differently so that said inner layer has an exposed portion located along said reference line.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
A number of non-limiting embodiments of the present invention will be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figures 1 to 6 show side views in perspective of respective embodiments of the container according to the present invention .
BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
Numbers la, lb, lc, Id, le and If in Figures 1 to 6 indicate as a whole respective hinged-lid cigarette packets, each of which comprises a body 2 closed at the top by a lid 3 hinged to body 2 along a hinge line 4, and separated from body 2 along a cut line 5 defining, together with hinge line 4, an endless line about a longitudinal axis 6 of packet 1.
Each packet la, lb, lc, Id, le and If is obtained in known manner by folding a flat blank (not shown) of cardboard or similar, and comprises a major front wall 7; a major rear wall 8 parallel to and facing front wall 7; two minor lateral walls 9 parallel to each other and perpendicular to front and rear walls 7 and 8; a top wall 10; and a bottom wall 11 parallel to top wall 10 and perpendicular to all the other walls.
Top wall 10 and bottom wall 11 are connected to the other walls along edges 12, which, in the example shown, are sharp edges, but which may be rounded, bevelled, or otherwise shaped in known manner; and each lateral wall 9 is connected to front wall 7 and rear wall 8 along respective longitudinal edges 13 parallel to longitudinal axis 6. In the example shown, longitudinal edges 13 - of which, the front longitudinal edge is indicated 13a, and the rear longitudinal edge 13b - are also sharp edges, but may be rounded, bevelled, or otherwise shaped in known manner.
Hinge line 4 extends across rear wall 8, crosswise to longitudinal axis 6; and cut line 5 comprises a central portion 14 extending across front wall 7, crosswise to longitudinal axis 6, and two outer portions 15 on opposite sides of central portion 14. Each outer portion 15 extends obliquely across a respective lateral wall 9 to connect a respective end of central portion 14 to a respective end of hinge line 4. Each lateral wall 9 is a multilayer wall comprising, in known manner, an inner layer 16 extending from relative longitudinal edge 13b towards relative longitudinal edge 13a; and an outer layer 17 extending from relative longitudinal edge 13a towards relative longitudinal edge 13b.
More specifically, inner layer 16 comprises two portions 16a and 16b located on opposite sides of cut line 5 and forming part of body 2 and lid 3 respectively;
and similarly, outer layer 17 comprises two portions 17a and 17b located on opposite sides of cut line 5 and forming part of body 2 and lid 3 respectively. Portions 17a and 17b are each bounded, on the side facing relative longitudinal edge 13b, by an edge 18 extending along longitudinal edge 13b, and, on the side facing relative outer portion 15 of cut line 5, by an edge 19 extending along relative outer portion 15; and portions 16a and 16b are each bounded, on the side facing relative outer portion 15 of cut line 5, by an edge 20 extending along relative outer portion 15, and, on the side facing relative longitudinal edge 13b, by an edge 21, which, in the example shown, coincides with edge 13b, but which in other cases may simply be parallel to edge 13b. In packet la, edges 18 of portions 17a and 17b of outer layer 17 of each lateral wall 9 are both straight, slope with respect to a reference line defined by relative longitudinal edge 13b, and converge towards front wall 7 from bottom wall 11 and top wall 10 respectively, to form respective angles A and B with relative longitudinal edge 13b; edges 19 of portions 17a and 17b of outer layer 17 of each lateral wall 9 are both straight, slope with respect to a reference line defined by relative outer portion 15 of cut line 5, converge towards front wall 7 from rear wall 8 to form respective angles C and D with relative outer portion 15 of cut line 5, and are connected to relative edges 18 by respective sharp corners; and edges 20 of portions 16a and 16b of
inner layer 16 of each lateral wall 9 are both straight, and coincide with relative outer portion 15 of cut line 5.
Each outer layer 17 thus leaves, on relative inner layer 16, an exposed portion 22 extending along relative edge 13b and relative outer portion 15 of cut line 5, so that lid 3 closes perfectly onto body 2 along cut line 5, while at the same time producing a characteristic aesthetic feature of packet la capable of masking any flaws caused by layers 16 and 17 of each lateral wall 9 not being superimposed properly.
The same also applies to packet lb, which substantially only differs from packet la by edges 18 of portions 17a and 17b of outer layer 17 of each lateral wall 9 being curved and connected to relative edges 19 by respective rounded corners.
The same also applies to packet lc, in which outer portions 15 of cut line are curved and form a bend; edges 20 of portions 16a and 16b of inner layer 16 of each lateral wall 9 coincide with relative outer portion 15; edges 19 of portions 17a and 17b of outer layer 17 of each lateral wall 9 substantially follow relative outer portion 15, but diverge from it as of front wall 7; and edge 18 of portion 17a of outer layer 17 of each lateral wall 9 has a sinusoidal shape tangent to relative longitudinal edge 13b.
Packet Id is a simplified version, in which only perfect closing of lid 3 onto body 2 is taken into
account. For which purpose, edges 18 of packet Id coincide with relative edges 13b; each edge 20 coincides with relative outer portion 15 of cut line 5 and with edge 19 of relative portion 17a of relative outer layer 17; and edge 19 of portion 17b of each outer layer 17 is curved with its concavity facing relative outer portion
15 of cut line 5.
Packets le and If are similar to packet Id, are indicated using the same reference numbers, and differ from packet Id as regards the shape of edges 19 and several characteristics not forming part of the present invention .
The shape and location of edges 18 and 19 of packets la-lf may obviously be combined in various ways not shown, or other shapes (not shown) may be used to achieve the objects specified above.
