Definitions

  • This invention relates to till cups and more particularly to a till cup and method of manufacturing the same.
  • the drawers of cash tills used in such outlets as supermarkets and garages are divided into compartments into which the various denominations of coins are sorted. This enables the sorted coins to be counted by weight, the weighing apparatus "knowing" the average weight of a coin of given denomination and determining the number of coins and thus their value by simple division of the total weight by this average weight.
  • the compartment can be lined by a so called till cup, which can be lifted out of the compartment and placed in the hopper. It is then necessary for the weighing/counting machine to "know" the weight of the till cup in order to discount it.
  • Till cups have hitherto been manufactured by moulding a suitable plastics material.
  • Such moulding equipment is not cheap and the problem facing a manufacturer of till cups is that whereas it is desirable that a till cup should be a snug fit in a drawer compartment the compartments vary considerably in dimensions from one cash till to another, so that dedicated moulding equipment is needed for each variety of cash till drawer.
  • Another problem is that it is desirable that all of the till cups for a particular drawer should be of equal weight although of different dimensions, so that the counting machine can be preset to discount a single weight value. This has been achieved by making the till cups of unequal wall thickness, which can present serious difficulties in a moulding operation.
  • a principal object of the present invention is to enable the production of till cups of varying dimensions more cheaply than by moulding techniques.
