Abstract

An optical fiber cable comprising several bundles (19, 24, 31) of optical fibers (20, 25, 32), each bundle (19, 24, 31) consisting of a given number of optical fibers (20, 25, 32), and an outer covering (21, 26, 33) forming a cable surface. A sheath (22, 27, 34) is arranged concentrically in relation to the outer covering (21, 26, 33) in such a way that an outer surface of the sheath is located opposite an inner surface of the outer covering. The sheath (22, 27, 34), which is formed from an amorphous, thermoplastic material, surrounds the bundles (19, 24, 31) of optical fibers and provides strain relief and support.
