BOILER AND IRON ASSEMBLY DESCRIPTION The present invention relates to a boiler and iron assembly, according to the preamble of the main claim. The assembly in question is intended to be used advantageously in the domestic sector for performing all the conventional ironing operations .
As is known, the assemblies currently available on the market are generally provided with a boiler for generating steam with associated means for heating the water. Functionally speaking, the boiler is connected to an iron by means of a steam conveying pipe .
Generally, the boiler is mounted on a steel or plastic support structure which defines a support surface for the iron arranged laterally with respect to the boiler arid nearly always provided with a cover made of heat-resistant plastic material.
At present, in accordance with the art known to date it is fairly difficult to lift the whole assembly manually, gripping it by means of its resting base and keeping the iron positioned on the support surface, with the aim for example of moving the assembly onto a work table or stowing it away once ironing has been finished.
More recently, in order to overcome partly this drawback, assemblies provided with a handle generally
rigidly fixed to the top part of the boiler have been produced. This solution has proved, however, to be not very practical and also to a certain extent dangerous.
In fact, the presence of the iron simply resting on the support surface tends to create an imbalance in the assembly and consequently it is difficult to lift it by means of the handle, keeping the support surface horizontal .
Because of the weight, in fact, even small movements of the iron change considerably the centre of gravity of the assembly. Therefore, transportation of the assembly thus designed is extremely laborious and, to a certain extent, also dangerous since the iron, if it falls from the support surface, may injure the person using it. The main object of the present invention is therefore that of overcoming the drawbacks associated with assemblies of the known type, by providing a boiler and iron assembly for ironing which can be transported in a simple, convenient and entirely safe manner. A further object of the present invention is that of providing an assembly which allows the iron to be immobilised safely during transportation.
A further object of the present invention is that of providing an assembly which is low cost, operationally simple and entirely reliable.
These objects, together with others, are all achieved by the boiler and iron assembly according to the present invention, which comprises: a support structure with a resting base; - a boiler for generating steam, supported by the support structure; - an iron connected to the boiler by means of at least one steam conveying pipe and able to be positioned on a support surface provided on the support structure.
According to the invention, the assembly is characterized in that it comprises flexible lifting means which can be rigidly connected to the support structure and which extend between at least two fastening points between which the support surface is located, the iron thus being girdled by the flexible lifting means in a retained manner on the support surface during lifting of the assembly by means of the flexible lifting means .
The technical features of the invention, in accordance with the abovementioned objects, may be clearly determined from the contents of the claims indicated below and the advantages thereof will emerge clearly in the detailed description which follows, provided with reference to the accompanying drawings which show a purely exemplary and non-limiting embodiment thereof in which: - Figure 1 shows a first perspective view of the
assembly according to the present invention with flexible lifting means arranged in a non-operative position;
- Figure 2 shows a second perspective view of the assembly according to Figure 1 with the flexible lifting means arranged in a carrying position;
- Figure 3 shows an enlarged detail of the assembly according to the above figures, relating to the connection of the flexible lifting means to the support structure of the assembly itself. In accordance with the figures of the accompanying drawings, 1 denotes in its entirety the assembly according to the present invention.
In accordance with the example of embodiment shown in the accompanying figures, it comprises a box-shaped support structure 2 which is substantially defined by a front part 3 and by a rear part 4. The front part 3 , which is lowered with respect to the rear part 4 , is delimited by a front wall 5 and defines on top a support surface 6 intended to support an iron 7 which can be used in a known manner for the ironing operations.
Advantageously, a cover made of heat-resistant plastic material is provided above said support surface 6.
A boiler 8 for the production of steam is housed inside the rear part 4 of the assembly 1 and is connected
to the iron 7 by means of a steam conveying pipe 9. Conventional water heating means, consisting for example of an electrical resistance, are associated with the boiler 8. The rear part 4 is essentially delimited by two side walls 10, 11, by a rear wall 41, by an upper wall 12 and by an intermediate wall 13 from which the front part 3 extends .
The upper wall 12 is provided with a water refill cap 14 connected to the boiler 8, electrical activating means 15 and advantageously with a movable rod 16 for keeping the pipe 9 raised during the ironing operations.
Preferably, the abovementioned cap 9 may be mechanically connected to the boiler 8 by means of screwing and is associated with a valve for over-pressure of the steam inside the boiler 8.
At the bottom, the front part 3 and the rear part 4 of the assembly 1 are connected and delimited by a common resting base 40. According to the invention, the assembly 1 comprises flexible lifting means 17 which can be rigidly secured to the support structure 2 and which extend between at least two fastening points 18 and 19 between which the support surface 6 is physically located. In this way, when lifting of the assembly 1 is performed by means of the
flexible lifting means 17, the iron 7 is girdled by the same flexible lifting means 17 in a retained manner on the support surface 6.
Operationally speaking, the flexible lifting means 17 can be moved between two different positions, i.e. a first carrying position 20 shown in Figure 2, where these means 17 are arranged above the assembly 1 and may be gripped manually preferably along their substantially middle sections 21, and a second non-operative position 22, shown in Figure 1, where they are arranged laterally with respect to the assembly 1 so as to free the iron 7 from the restraining action of these means 17, allowing a user to perform freely all the ironing operations.
In accordance with a preferred embodiment of the present invention shown in the accompanying drawings, the flexible lifting means 17 are formed by two straps 23, 24 of strong material which preferably have a width of between two and five centimetres and are connected in a spaced manner and symmetrically with respect to a longitudinal central plane perpendicular to the support surface 6.
In the carrying position 20 the straps 23, 24 are situated closer to each other along the middle sections 21 so as to allow easy gripping and are able to support the whole assembly 1 in a balanced manner at four points,
preferably forming the vertices of a quadrilateral, so as to ensure a high degree of stability during transportation.
Advantageously, the length of the straps 23, 24 is designed so that, in the carrying position 20, they bear against the handle 7 ' of the iron 7, securing the latter in its position on top of the support surface 6.
Advantageously, also for aesthetic reasons, each strap 23, 24 is fixed at its ends, by means of suitable connecting means 42, to the resting base 40 of the assembly 1 at fastening points 18, 19 situated in the vicinity, respectively, of the front wall 5 and the rear wall 41.
The abovementioned connecting means 42 may advantageously be formed by screws or rivets . Alternatively, in accordance with a further embodiment, not shown in the accompanying figures in that they may be fully understood from the abovementioned description, the means 42 may consist of simple guiding eyelets formed on the plate of the resting base 40 and able to allow the straps 23, 24 to be folded back onto each other and gripped in an adjustable manner by means of special buckles .
Obviously, without thereby departing from the scope of protection of the present patent, the fastening points
18, 19 may be formed on the support structure 2 also in other positions such as, for example, the front wall 5 and rear wall 41, respectively.
The invention thus conceived therefore achieves the predefined objects.
Obviously it may assume, in its practical embodiment, also forms and configurations different from that illustrated above without, thereby, departing from the present scope of protection. Moreover, all the details may be replaced by technically equivalent elements and the forms, dimensions and materials used may be any depending on the requirements .
