Abstract

L'invention concerne un modulateur électro-optique comportant un bloc (1) d'un cristal à propriétés électro-optiques, le bloc étant allongé en longueur le long d'un grand axe et comportant un guide de lumière (4) s'étendant entre une entrée de guide de lumière et une sortie de guide de lumière, un signal électrique de modulation agissant sur une zone d'interaction du bloc par des électrodes (5) coplanaires en relation avec le guide de lumière par l'intermédiaire d'une couche diélectrique, les électrodes étant disposées sur une face principale allongée du bloc et la zone d'interaction étant sensiblement allongée le long du grand axe, la lumière à moduler arrivant par une fibre optique d'entrée (2') couplée au guide de lumière au niveau de l'entrée de guide de lumière sur une première face du bloc, la lumière modulée quittant le modulateur par une fibre optique de sortie (2'') couplée au guide de lumière au niveau de la sortie de guide de lumière sur une seconde face du bloc. Selon l'invention, la première face et la seconde face sont une seule et même face (D) parallèle au grand axe, le guide de lumière comportant deux courbures (11', 11'') respectivement entre l'entrée de guide de lumière et une première extrémité de la zone d'interaction et entre une seconde extrémité de la zone d'interaction et la sortie de guide de lumière, les deux courbures étant sensiblement symétriques entre elles. Un procédé de réalisation ainsi qu'un bloc font également partie de l'invention.
