Abstract

The invention relates to a method for the production of an inscription on a data carrier, especially the body of a card(204), using a laser beam (102) which is emitted by a laser (101). In order to produce the inscription surfaces and/or inscription points whose surface is blackened and/or coloured in an essentially uniform manner, the laser beam (102) and or part of the laser beam is homogenized, with regard to the distribution of the power density thereof; in the cross-section of the steel by a homogenizing means, especially a multi-mode glass fibre (104).
