Abstract

L'invention concerne un procédé et un système nouveaux pour la livraison de données sur un réseau à un grand nombre de clients, pouvant convenir à la construction de systèmes vidéo sur demande (VOD). Dans les systèmes VOD courants, le client peut avoir à subir un long retard avant de commencer à recevoir les données demandées capables de fournir des fonctions interactives suffisantes, ou inversement, sans augmentation sensible de la charge du réseau. Dans ledit procédé, deux groupes de trains de données sont utilisés, l'un étant chargé de minimiser le retard et l'autre de fournir les fonctions interactives demandées. Dans le groupe de données anti-retard, des intervalles de trains de données étagés de manière hiérarchiques, non-homogènes ou homogènes peuvent être utilisés. Le système de l'invention peut avoir un retard relativement petit au démarrage alors que les utilisateurs peuvent bénéficier de la plupart des fonctions interactives typiques des magnétoscopes. De plus, le nombre de trains de données ou la largeur de bande requis peuvent être conservés.
