Description

SWIVEL JOINT
The invention concerns to hydraulic devices, namely, swivel socket for joints, intended for coupling of high-pressure hydraulic hoses in hydraulic devices allowing rotation of one hose with respect to other and protecting from twisting of them. Swivel joint of prior art is known, for example, according to the catalogue of Slangbolaget AB, the firm "TEIvlA", Sweden, which consists of central shaft, on which there is fixed a nut for coupling of hose , and housing, in which the central shaft can rotate and which has compatible coupling dimensions for the hose. A disadvantage of the above described known swivel joint resides in that the axial load by passing of hydraulic liquid under pressure through swivel joint is taken up by means of sliding support provided in the form of shoulder on the central shaft and supporting surface on the housing of swivel joint. In case of such design the forces arising at friction of one surface in regard to other, can exceed the twisting torque aroused from twisting of hoses, and swivel joint fails to fulfill its function, i.e., the rotating of the central shaft with respect to housing does not occur. For the same reason the swivel joint cannot operate at high pressure by 30 MPa, which becomes the basic standard pressure used in connection with contemporary devices. Another swivel joint according to the catalogue of the company
"Indexator" (prototype) is also known. Known swivel joint consists of the central part of joint, housing and cover. The basic element taking up axial load by applying hydraulic pressure is a ball support provided in the form of circular groove in the basic central part of the swivel joint. Therefore at multiple turns of balls in the circular groove of the central part and at applied high pressure of about 30 MPa an intensive deterioration of metal with its stratification and seizure of the mechanism takes place. For the same reason the failure of the swivel joint takes place by radial load, because in the known swivel joint there is used a needle bearing, but needles directly contact to cylindrical surface of the same basic part and in case of insufficient hardness of the surface there is observed destruction of the swivel joint. The goal of an invention is to prolong service life and improve serviceability of swivel joint.
According to the present invention there is provided a swivel joint intended for use in coupling of high pressure hoses in hydraulic devices which comprises a housing, a cover with central hole which internal end is guided in the direction of the cavity of the housing, a central shaft built in the central hole of the cover, and an element for taking up of axial load, characterized in that the element for taking up of the axial load is provided by the radial thrust bearing disposed at the internal end of the cover in the cavity of housing and resting by its lower end on a support, consisting of a disk and two half-rings mounted motionless in the circular groove of the central shaft with a possibility of self-installation of the said bearing, but in the central hole of the cover in relationship with the central shaft there is fixed a plain bearing to react a radial load, said plain bearing being produced from high-strength bronze and provided with recesses for retention of grease. The invention may be better understood from the following detailed description of an embodiment thereof due reference being made to the accompanying drawing showing cross section of the swivel joint .
The swivel joint comprises following main parts: the central shaft 1 , housing 2, cover 3 with the central hole. The internal end of the cover 3 is guided in the direction of the cavity of the housing 2. At the ends of the central shaft 1 and the housing 2 there are provided appropriate connection areas necessary for connection of one hose to the shaft 1 , and the second hose to the housing 2. The cover 3 which is provided with central hole with built-in central shaft 1 is fixed to the housing 2 by means of threaded connection. A plain bearing 4 is pressed into the cover 2 to react a radial load. Said plain bearing 4 being produced from high-strength bronze is supplied with special recesses (not shown) for retention of grease. Providing of swivel joint with plain bearing 4 taking up radial load ensures favorable conditions during use and excludes possibility of emergence of scoring at rotation of the shaft 1 in the bearing 4. On the end of the cover 3 in the cavity of the case 2 there is positioned a radial-thrust bearing 5 resting by its lower end on the special support consisting of disc 6 which by means of radial recess bears against two half rings 7 mounted in the circular groove of the central shaft 1. The necessary preliminary tightening of the bearing 5 with its simultaneous self- alignment is provided owing to radial shoulder-type supporting surfaces of half rings 7 and disc 6 during turning up of the cover 3 against the stop in the bearing 5. Swivel joint is provided also with a radial-type seal 8 mounted in the housing 2 and withstanding high pressure up to 40 MPa . Between the central shaft 1 and cover 3 there is provided a rubber ring 9 protecting swivel joint from ingress of dust and dirt in it, and a sealing ring 10 being an element preventing unscrewing of the cover 3.
The use of swivel joint is characterized by the following: after fastening of one hose on the end of the central shaft 1 , and the second hose in the socket of the housing 2, hydraulic pressure through swivel joint may be applied to the suitable hydraulic actuators of hydraulic system (not shown). Thus on the central shaft 1 and the housing 2 there is applied an axial force aroused by the difference in dimensions of passage and sealing diameters of the shaft 1 and housing 2. If during the use in the hydraulic system there occurs relative rotation of hoses, the central shaft 1 simultaneously rotates in respect to the housing 2, thus eliminating beginning of twisting of them.
The swivel joint in accordance with the present invention is industrially applicable and may be used for coupling of corresponding hydraulic devices with hydraulic pressure source.
