Abstract

According to the invention, the gas is conducted with a constant volumetric flow through a measuring line (2), where it is heated by a heating device (3) with a constant output. Two temperature probes (4, 5) detect the temperature of the gas upstream and downstream of the heating device. The temperature difference derived therefrom is proportional to the specific heat of the gas and thus to the condition of the gas. The calorific value Ho of the gas is calculated from a corresponding measurement signal according to the formula Ho = A . MS B, using constants (A) and (B) that are determined experimentally.
