Abstract

Nanocomposite material which comprises a plastic matrix consisting of polyolefin and a mineral component in nanoparticles. The mineral component is Montmorillonite, in particles the major part of which have the shape of platelets of a thickness of the order of magnitude of nanometers. The length and breadth of the Montmorillonite platelets may vary from 1.5 m down to a few tenths of 1 m. The Nanocomposite material may be formed into a product having at least one direction of orientation, wherein the Montmorillonite platelets are mainly parallel or sub-parallel to the direction of orientation.
