- the present invention relates to the field of electrical connectors and in particular to the field of multipolar electrical connectors. It relates more specifically to an electrical connector comprising a male contact block and a female contact block, each block being mounted in a metal guide comprising at least one portion of cylinder.
- Each metal guide consists of a proximal part of cylindrical shape and a distal part representing a cylinder portion, for example a half-cylinder, the two distal parts of each block are complementary so as to form a cylinder when the connector is closed.
- the guides as described above facilitate the guiding and positioning of the male block relative to the female block; this is particularly important for multipolar connectors where it is imperative that each male pole is fixed in a corresponding female pole which is specific to it.
- the guides also act as protective elements for the contacts.
- the present invention offers an advantageous alternative to the device described in application WO 00/25390.
- an electrical connector comprising a male contact block and a female contact block, each block being mounted in a metal guide consisting of a proximal part of cylindrical shape and of a distal part representing a cylinder portion, the two distal parts being complementary so as to form a cylinder when the connector is closed, said electrical connector being characterized in that the proximal or distal part of one of the guides comprises a protuberance which is received in a recess made in the distal or proximal part from the other guide.
- the width of the protuberance is substantially greater than that of the recess in order to make the ground contact more effective.
- the protuberance comprises a slot arranged along the axis of the connector. The protrusion then consists of two tabs which each offer a higher degree of elasticity than that of a protrusion without a slot. With such a configuration, the mechanical behavior and the electromechanical durability of the system are notably improved.
- the guide which contains the recess comprises at least two slots arranged on each side of the recess and in the same direction as the latter.
- the connector comprises several protuberances and corresponding recesses.

- Each guide 1,2 consists of a proximal part 3,4 of cylindrical shape and a distal part 5,6 representing a half-cylinder. Once the connector is closed, the distal parts 5,6 overlap and form a cylinder.
- the free end of the distal part 6 of one of the guides 2 has a protuberance 7 which is located midway between the edges of the half-cylinder constituting the distal part 6 and which is arranged along the main axis of the guides 1 2.
- the free end of the proximal part 3 of the other guide 1 has a recess 8 whose shape is such that the protuberance 7 can be housed there firmly.
- the guides illustrated in FIGS. 3 and 4 are identical to those in FIGS. 1 and 2 with the exception of the protuberance which comprises a slot 9 arranged along the main axis of the guides 1,2.
- the protuberance 7 is in fact made up of two tongues whose elasticity is greater than that of the protuberance 7 illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2.
- the ground contact between the two guides 1,2 essentially improves the mechanical behavior and the electromechanical durability of the system.
- the guides illustrated in Figures 5 and 6 are identical to those of Figures 1 and 2 except that on each side of the recess 8 are arranged two parallel slots 10,11.
- the elasticity of the edges of the recess is therefore increased, which essentially improves the mechanical behavior, even the electromechanical durability of the system.
- the number of protrusions can be greater than one.
- the number of recesses will always be equal to or greater than that of the protrusions.
- distal parts of the guides are not necessarily semi-cylindrical.
- a guide comprises two separate quarter cylinders, each quarter cylinder comprising a protrusion or a recess.
