Definitions
- the present invention relates to laminated glazing for vehicles. More particularly, the invention relates to laminated glazing which has limited energy transmission.
- the inventors have therefore proposed to develop laminated glazing for automobiles, while endeavoring to satisfy the requirements set out above. In addition to these requirements must be added that concerning their thickness.
- the inventors have managed to reconcile these various requirements and offer automotive laminated glazing comprising two sheets of colored glass, glazing whose light transmission (TL), for the thicknesses required by the manufacturers, is at least 70%, the energy transmission (TE) is at most equal to 51%, and this for a thickness of glass such as the product TExe, where TE is expressed as a percentage, and e is the total thickness of glass of the glazing in millimeters, remains at most equal to 200.
- TExe the product
- This expression translates the constraints in which the glazings according to the invention are enclosed. Obtaining the rigorous conditions which must be satisfied by the glazing considered, is partly dependent on the colorings required. It is relatively more difficult to achieve these conditions with blue-tinted glasses.
- the difficulty lies in lowering the energy transmission to sufficiently low levels, without simultaneously the light transmission becoming too weak. For this reason the expression TExe, varies only in a restricted field.
- the blue glazings according to the invention are preferably such that TExe is less than 195.
- TExe For green glazing, TExe can be more easily limited. This value can be reduced without undue difficulty to values at most equal to 180.
- the thickness of the glazing is preferably between 3.5 and 5.5 mm. Most usually the glazings according to the invention have a total thickness comprised between 3.8 and 5mm.
- the TL used is that determined with the standard illuminant A as defined by the International Lighting Commission.
- Illuminant A represents the radiation from a Planck radiator at a temperature of around 2856 K. This illuminant represents the light emitted by car headlights and is essentially intended to evaluate the optical properties of glazing intended for the automobile.
- the TL and TE are:
- TLA total light transmission for illuminant A
- colors also play a role. They 'are important in the production of glass in question. They are also important in defining the properties of transmission in the visible, infrared or ultraviolet, properties which by definition condition the use according to the invention. In addition, the choice of colors must meet the aesthetics sought by the manufacturers. In practice, the glazing must have a predominantly green or blue coloring.
- the glasses used according to the invention correspond to the traditional soda-lime base compositions, the main components of which have the following weight proportions:
- the glasses used according to the invention contain coloring constituents, and mainly iron oxides. These dyes are in the following general proportions: Fe 2 O 3 (total iron expressed as) 0.5 - 1%
- compositions may also contain other dyes, in particular originating from the raw materials used, in weight proportions which do not exceed: TiO 2 ⁇ 0.1% MnO 2 ⁇ 0.13%
- compositions correspond to a set of dyes such as:
- glasses of predominantly blue coloring for the glazings according to the invention preferably correspond to the following dye compositions:
- predominantly green glazing comprises glasses whose colorings are:
- Glazing which incorporates the characteristics of the invention has been constituted by way of example. In these examples, all the glazing is laminated with a clear polyvinyl butyral interlayer 0.76 mm thick.
- the glasses of the assemblies produced have a soda-lime base, the weight composition of which is:
- the glazings are produced in different thicknesses. In all the examples, the two sheets have the same thickness.
- the first series is about 5mm.
- the characteristics of the glazing are given in the following table:
- the second series of glazing is thinner, and slightly more than 4mm. In this series the thickness of each sheet is 1.7mm. As before, the interlayer is 0.76mm thick. The measurements carried out are given in the following table:
- Example 11 meets the different conditions required for glazing according to the invention.
- Example 10 shows too high a TExe value, even if the TE is suitable.
- This type of assembly shows the difficulty of achieving all of the required conditions. Indeed, a reduction in thickness of each of the sheets would have the effect of increasing the TE and therefore of leading to unsatisfactory glazing.
