Definitions
- the invention comprises a slidebearing in telescopic pipes, aimed to stabilize variable under-frame s and stands in constructions like raisable and lowerable terminal tables, operating-tables, workbenches, patient Ufts and beds etc, variable with the aid of manual or motor driven mechanical actuators.
- the invention comprises especially a slidebearing in such telescopic pipes, where two or more, inside each other, free moving circular pipe sections are kept apart by a side stabilizing slidebearing consisting of two or more open and band formed slide elememts.
- the invention also comprises how to use the inventive slidebearing in the telescopic pipe in order to avoid visible slide marks upon the lacquered and finished outer surfaces of the pipe sections, even if they are extended to give maximal length to the telescopic pipe.
- Telescopic pipes are being used more and more into variable, and thereby ergonomically adaptable constructions like raisable and lowerable terminal tables at offices, beds, operating-tables and patient lifts at hosptals, workbenches and positioning arrangements within the industry etc, to be varied normally by built-in manual or motor driven mechanical actuators.
- the essential task for such a telescopic pipe is to secure for the side stabihty of the construction, even when the pipe sections are extended all the way to their end stops. Further tasks for the telescopic pipe are to hide the necces- sary mechanical positioning actuator and with a good looking design and finish offer an attractive product.
- the side stability is totally depending upon the manufacturing accuracy of the individal pipe sections, the number, the cross section area and the dimensioning, together with the choice of the slidebearing elements and where they are fixed between the telescopic pipe sections. Just a minor tolerance failure between the pipe sections and the slidebearing elements gives a big instability to the telescopic pipe when extended to it's full length.
- the following described inventive slidebearing consists of two or more open, injection moulded band formed slide elements made of low friction plastic, constantly dimensioned to fit between the d fferent pipe sections, which all have a circular cross section area, and that the slide elements are fixed into shallow, machine cut or precision-turned cavities on the pipe section's outer wall surface, and with minimal tolerance touch and slide against the inner wall surface of the nearest outer pipe section, which surface thereby only needs to be simply cleaned and/or polished.
- the inventive slidebearing in a telescopic pipe issues from what is specified within the ingress of the attached claim 1, and is mainly characterized by, the slide elements which are formed like wide, at one spot slit opened "piston- ring"-like plastic bands.
- each slide element at least at three, preferably more spots along the band has thicker segments to fill out the space between two near pipe sections in the telescopic pipe and thereby, in cooperation with at least one more slide element essentially distanced from the other, brings the neccessary side stabihty to the construction.
- the slide elements may furthermore be fixed to these positions by e.g. small pins into corresponding holes in the pipe section's outer wall surface or just resilently be fixed in the precision-turned shallow cavities.
- the invention will at first be described by it's general divergence from known technique and thereafter more in detail as a non-re strictable example of a slidebearing in a two-steps telescopic pipe with two movable pipe sections.
- Figure 1 shows, symbolically and much simplified, an exaple of a telescopic pipe, where the slidebearing comprises two slide elements (1) being placed near the open ends of the pipe sections (2) to ease for the machine -finishing.
- the slide elements will give maximum side stability only when the telescopic pipe is totally compressed.
- All slide elements (1) in all figures are symbolized by a trapezoid with the wide side symbolizing it's fixation surface and the narrow side symbolizing the sliding surface of the element, for easier illustration onto which wall of the pipe section the element is assembled and against what wall it is sliding.
- the side stability has been trimmed by adjusting the thickness of the shde element.
- a mechanical stop (3) is assembled to or mechanically bent into the pipe section's wall.
- Figure 2 shows identically same telescopic pipe including a two steps actuator (4).
- FIGS. 3a and 3b show symbolically the differences in how the slidebea- rings and stops normally are placed, compared to how they shall be placed following this new inventive way.
- figure 3a therefor shows exactly the same performance that already was described for the telescopic pipe in figure 1.
- Figure 3b shows in a similar symbolic way, how the slide ele- mentes (1), now are assembled onto the pipe section's (2) outer wall surface and thus always slide against the inner wall surface of the nearest outer pipe section.
- Figure 3b also shows that the slide elements (1) are being placed within a distance from approximately half-way up or preferably slightly less than half-way up and down to the bottom end a the movable pipe section.
- the invention hereby makes it possibility to assemble and fix injection moulded constantly dimensioned shde elements that fit the outer diameter of the pipe sections and, if neccessary for improved tolerance, also turn shallow cavities with high precision into the outer wall surface of the pipe section, where the shde elements (1) resilently can be assembled and stay fixed, thus forming the inventive slidebearing.
- the side stabihty which hereby may be optimized by precision-turned shallow cavities for the shde elements, and is most critical when all pipe section's are pulled apart to the full length of the telescopic pipe, an improved side stabihty is obtained over the total working range of the telescopic pipe, and simultaneousely a more industrial oriented manufturing method.
- Figure 3b also shows how the telescoping stops (3) are placed inside and near to the pipe section's upper end, and designed not to reach the nearest inner section's outer wall surface.
- the upper slide elements (1) on the moving pipe sections stop their motion upwards when they reach a stop (3).
- the inventive method how to avoid visible shde marks at the lacuered pipe section's outer wall surfaces becomes possible by the assembling of the shde elements (1), that always are being fixed against the pipe section's (2) outer wall surface or assembled into shallow cavities precision-turned on that surface and that they always shde against the nearest outer pipe section's (2) inner wall surface.
- Figure 4a shows, as a perspective view, an example of the special slide element (1) of the inventive slidebearing, that is formed like a circular "piston- ring"-like band, preferably injection moulded out of an abraison resistent thermoplastic material with high density and low coefficient of friction, which band is designed with an open slit (5) and at least three or more extended segments (6), which by highest tolerance fill the total space between two pipe sections (2) when entered one into the other, alternatively fill this space including the depth of the shallow cavity, precision-turned to fix the shde element (1) into the inner pipe section's (2) outer wall surface.
- the special slide element (1) of the inventive slidebearing that is formed like a circular "piston- ring"-like band, preferably injection moulded out of an abraison resistent thermoplastic material with high density and low coefficient of friction, which band is designed with an open slit (5) and at least three or more extended segments (6), which by highest tolerance fill the total space between two pipe sections (2) when entered one into the other, alternatively
- Figure 4b shows as a cross section view exactly such a shde element (1), assembled into such a precision-turned cavity in a pipe section's (2) outer wall.
- FIG. 5 finally, shows again symbolically, much enlarged and as a part perspective view, how the shde elements (1) are fixed into precision-turned cavities in the outer wall surface's of an inner pipe section (2), and how they shde slide against nearest outer pipe section's (2) inner wall surface, thus newer being able to scratch or make slide marks to the visible outer lacuered and finished surfaces of the pipe sections even if the telescopic pipe is extended to it's full length.
- the telescoping stops (3) fixed into their machine turned slots (7), must also give free space to these wall surfaces.
- An end stopp (8) is usually bent inwards into the bottom part of all outer pipe sections after the assembling, to prevent the sections to fall apart downwards when handeled.
