Extending tables of the type mentioned are known and proven in many designs, in particular, for example, as dining tables. In such extendable tables, the table top is regularly divided and the table top halves can be moved against one another on spars. If the table top halves are pulled apart, additional tops can be placed on extensions of the bars or on the frame in order to significantly increase the number of seats at the table. When not in use, these additional plates are accommodated in the foot of the extending table, for example. In most cases, however, such additional plates have to be parked elsewhere, for which purpose a suitable storage facility is required.

If the table top halves 26, 27 are moved apart into their maximum spaced position, a microswitch 62 is actuated, for example, in such a way that an electrical drive device 64 can be switched on via an externally accessible switch 63, which is arranged below the slide 47 in the exemplary embodiment.

The electric drive 64 has an electric motor 65, which is fed here from batteries or from accumulators, which can be accommodated in a housing 66.

The height of the punches 32, 33 is brought about by means of further gears 69, 70 connected to the outside of the drive shafts 71, 72, see FIG. 8.
