Description

REFRIGERATOR
The present invention relates to an ice cube tray assembly used in refrigerators.
The ice tray assemblies generally provided in the freezer compartments of the refrigerators, comprises ice cube trays with compartments of any desired size and form, guide grooves to which said ice trays are attached and the ice cube tray case. The ice cube tray is removed from the ice tray case, filled with water and then attached placed into the ice cube tray case. During this process, water may be spilled to the freezer compartment. Furthermore, some problems are faced with, while dispensing the ice cubes from the ice tray.
In the US Patent No. 5809797, an ice cube tray case installed in a base of the freezer compartment of a refrigerator, comprising a bearing, an ice cube tray 180°C routable when mounted to the tray case, and a stopper on the bearing is disclosed. When the tray is rotated 180°C, it rests against said stopper and formed ice cubes are removed by means of torsion and are dropped into the ice bin which is slidably mounted to the base, under the tray. In this invention, as filling the ice cube tray with water is performed by removing the ice cube tray from the freezer compartment, the problem of water spilling into the freezer compartment is not solved.
The object of the present invention is to avoid the spilling of water out of the ice cube tray while placing said trays filled with water, into the freezer compartment.
Another object of the present invention is to facilitate the process of filling the ice cube trays with water. The ice cube tray assembly realized to attain the above objects of the present invention has been illustrated in the attached drawings, where in
Figure 1, is the exploded perspective view of the ice cube tray case, ice cube tray and water addition apparatus assembly.
Figure 2, is the exploded perspective view of the ice cube tray case, ice cube tray and water addition apparatus assembly.
The components shown in the drawings have individually been given reference numerals as shown below:

The refrigerator comprises an ice cube tray (2) preferably placed in the freezer compartment, and used to form suitable ice cubes, a water addition apparatus (4) used to fill the ice cube tray (2) with water and an ice cube tray case (1) on which said ice cube tray (2) and the water addition apparatus (4) are placed.
On the inner sides of the lateral surfaces of the ice cube tray case (1), one or more guide grooves (9) are provided, wherein the ice cube tray (2) and the water addition apparatus (4) are attached in order to allow these components to be taken out of the case (1) and/or placed back into the case (1) separately, by the user. Water addition apparatus (4) is attached to the upper guide groove (9) and the ice cube tray (2), to the lower guide groove (9).
Said ice cube tray (2) contains at least one ice cube compartment (3) which is filled with water to form ice cubes.
Said water addition apparatus (4) which is preferably manufactured as one piece, comprises at least one water addition opening (5), at least one groove (7) and at least one discharge outlet (8) provided on said groove (7). This apparatus (4) makes it possible to fill the ice cube trays (2), placed under said apparatus (4), with water without taking it out. The water addition openings (5), located at the side of the assembly that is proximate to the user, is of a hollow structure with its top open, has a height and width sufficient to fill the ice cube tray (2) with water without any spilling of water in the freezer compartment. An aperture (6) is provided between the back wall of the water addition opening (5) and the base of the water addition apparatus (4), which allows the passage of water, into the groove (7). The front wall of the water addition compartment (5) is inclined towards said aperture (6). Water, passing through said aperture (6) is collected in the groove (7) and directed by the groove (7) towards the discharge outlets (8). The collected water flows through a suitable number of discharge outlets (8) provided at the center of said groove (7) and fills the ice cube tray (2) disposed under the water addition apparatus (4).
Water may be added into the ice cube tray (2) when the water addition apparatus (4) and the ice cube tray (2) are suspended in the ice cube tray case (1). Water added into the water addition opening (5) passes through the discharge outlets (8) provided on the groove (7) and is collected in the ice cube tray (2), wherein water accumulated in the ice cube compartments (3) freezes in the course of time due to the temperature in the freezer compartment of the refrigerator and ice cubes are formed in the shape of the ice cube compartments The positions and number of the discharge outlets (8) on the groove (7), are determined according to the lay out of the ice cube compartments (3), provided on the ice cube tray (2). Said discharge outlets (8) are preferably so positioned that they are located above the conjugate points of the ice cube compartments (3). Due to this positioning, water flowing out of one discharge outlet (8) can fill into more than one ice cube compartment (3).
Water, added into the water addition compartment (5) provided in the water addition apparatus (4), flows into the ice cube tray (2) due to the inclined structure of the lateral surfaces of the grooves (7) and only a small amount of water remains in said groove (7). The surfaces of the water addition apparatus (4) must be smooth in order to minimize the amount of said water remaining on the groove (7) surface and to avoid its freezing. Said surfaces may be coated by a hydrophilic coating to reduce the amount of water retained.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, two ice cube trays (2) disposed side by side in the tray case (1) are used, considering the volume of the freezer compartment. Water addition compartments (5) that make it possible to fill the ice cube trays (2) placed under said apparatus (4) with water without taking it out, grooves (7) and other connection details are addapted to this structure. A measuring unit, of a volume equal to or less than the volume of all ice cube compartments (3) provided on an ice cube tray (2), is also provided together with the refrigerator. By virtue of said measuring unit, the user can add water into the ice cube tray (2) even if he does not see the ice cube tray (2).
