Abstract

The invention relates to a device for supplying an operating gas to a fuel cell (1). Said device comprises a stop valve (2) which is provided in the operating gas supply line and which is embodied in such a way that the through-flowing mass flow can be continuously controlled, thus also enabling a non-constant supply pressure to be reduced and stabilised. The secondary pressure of the valve is measured by a pressure sensor (4) and an electronic control system (6) regulates the valve in such a way that a defined actual value for the operating pressure is set, said actual value corresponding to a nominal value. The nominal value of the operating pressure can vary according to system parameters of the fuel cell. For example, when the flow requirements of the fuel cell increase, the operating pressure can be increased accordingly. The operating safety of the fuel cell can also be increased by determining the mass flow passing through the valve of the fuel supply line, by means of the control signal, and by disconnecting the fuel cell when the value of the electrical current produced does not correspond to the expected current according to the measured fuel mass flow, indicating a leak.
