Abstract

La présente invention concerne un séparateur de gaz polarisé utile dans la construction bipolaire d'un empilement de cellules électrochimiques. Ce séparateur comporte un substrat conducteur poreux et une couche barrière. Ladite couche barrière comprend un premier côté et un second côté et se prolonge latéralement à travers le substrat conducteur poreux de façon qu'une première partie du substrat s'étende à partir du premier côté de la couche barrière et qu'une seconde partie dudit substrat s'étende à partir du second côté de cette couche barrière. De fait, le séparateur de gaz polarisé se présente sous la forme d'un système à un composant permettant non seulement d'améliorer le rendement énergétique des empilements de cellules électrochimiques, mais aussi de résoudre plusieurs problèmes jusqu'alors insolubles avec les plaques bipolaires classiques.
