Abstract

Image display systems and methods for displaying different images using image grids (1) having a sequence of substantially parallel image strips, and masking grids (2) having a plurality of substantially parallel window strips for selectively obscuring image strips of the image grids to enable different images to be viewed by relative grid movement, the systems including light sources (5,5') and associated detectors (6,6') which detect light passing through indicia on both grids to provide signals for aligning the grids. Outputs form the detectors are amplified and compared against a present output level, the resulting differences being used to control the relative positioning of the grids to bring the window and image strips into alignment, fine positional adjustment being by adjusting amplifier gains. Grid registration during dwell periods whilst showing successive images is achieved similarly. Particularly good alignment and registration can be achieved enabling improved image definition and brightness to be achieved.
