  • the association between the two components of the information column is immediately apparent and they will therefore be regarded as one whole by an observer.
  • the information column according to the invention is herein characterized in that the ball sport comprises a sport from a group of soccer, rugby, American football, basketball, baseball, tennis, hockey and golf. Since these ball sports in particular have found a high degree of acceptance in society, they will therefore appeal to a large section of the public. Although such an information column is thereby applicable in a general sense, it is of course eminently suitable for use in or in the vicinity of a stadium where the sport in question is regularly played or in which a sporting event is held.
  • a panel In front of or in the image carrier a panel can be employed per se to which a broadsheet or poster is adhered. A number of such panels on different sides of the image carrier is also possible. Although such an embodiment entails relatively little cost, a change of image is comparatively time-consuming.
  • Such an image carrier is therefore particularly suitable for applications wherein the information column carries the same image for a long period of time.
  • the image carrier comprises at least one electronically controllable screen.
  • the use of an electronically controllable screen enables immediate change of the content thereof at any random moment. Furthermore, it is thus even possible to make use of moving images, whereby the information column acquires an even more spectacular appeal.
  • the screen comprises a LED panel assembled from a plurality of light-emitting diodes.
  • a LED screen a large number of light-emitting diodes is used, preferably in the different primary colours, in order to form a (colour) image therewith, h larger screens the image is thus built up of an immense number of small light sources and does not therefore have to be illuminated. Not only does this provide a particularly attractive image, it is thus also readily visible in situations with only little or no daylight at all.
  • the image carrier has the round form of a ball associated with a ball sport as described above a curved LED panel is applied to secure the design of the ball as much a possible.
  • the base of this curved panel is realised by a modular designed construction covered with LED modules.
  • the screen comprises a projection screen which is illuminated via an image-forming member.
  • the image carrier herein also has its own light source available, whereby the presence of sufficient daylight is not required, although the brightness of the image and the impact thereof will not normally be able to equal that of a LED screen.
  • the structure into which both the support body and the image carrier according to the present invention are integrated can be per se rigid, although in a further embodiment the information column according to the invention has the feature that the support body and the image carrier are mutually coupled for rotation relative to each other.
  • the image carrier is thus rotatable relative to the support body.
  • Advantageous use can be made of this by causing continuous slow rotation of the image carrier, therein driven by a suitable servomotor, so that the image or the images thereof can be viewed from all angles. It is also possible to thus continuously place an otherwise stationary image carrier in a suitable position relative to the sunlight so that the image thereof is clearly visible.
  • a further embodiment of the information column according to the invention has the feature that at least one image surface of the image carrier is mounted tiltably on a substantially horizontal shaft. Because the image is thus tiltable relative to the horizontal, a suitable orientation can be chosen at all times relative to the actual position of the sun, which enhances the legibility of the image.
  • a tilting of the image which is driven by means of an electric servomotor is here preferably also applied, so that this can be achieved without manpower, optionally remotely and automatically.
  • the contrast of the image of the image carrier is herein further enhanced by the information column being characterized in that at least one image surface of the image carrier is recessed relative to a surrounding part of the image carrier.
  • a further embodiment of the information column has the feature that in or at least close to an image surface of the image carrier is arranged a light-sensitive sensor which is coupled to a control of the information column.
  • the signal of the light-sensitive sensor can be employed as control signal for an optionally automatic orientation of the image carrier relative to the sun or another bright light source. It is also possible on the basis of this signal to regulate the light intensity of the screen subject to the intensity of the ambient light in those cases where an electronically controllable screen is applied for the image carrier.
  • a further preferred embodiment of the information column according to the invention has the feature that at least a part of the wire-connected or wireless telecommunication means is accommodated therein. Owing to the integration of telecommunication means in the information column, these can be controlled and monitored at a distance, h the case of a malfunction in the device it is thus possible to transmit a corresponding failure report to a remotely located control room, so that effective action can then be undertaken, while when an electronic display panel is used it is thus also possible to remotely provide the image to be displayed thereon.
  • a further embodiment of the information column according to the invention has the feature that the telecommunication means comprise an antenna and that the antenna is arranged in or at least close to the image carrier.
  • a wireless communication network for mobile telecommunication such as the GSM network
  • the relatively high placing thereof herein enhances the quality of reception.

  • the information column of figure 1 comprises a columnar support body 1 with a height of typically about 16-24 metres which represents a sculpture in the form of an extended arm with index finger.
  • the support body comprises internally a hollow steel structure around which a polyester outer casing is arranged in the desired design, order to give this polyester casing the appearance of a real sculpture it is sprayed in a bronze colour or as stone.
  • the hollow support body is accessible via an access door (not shown) and also functions as service tower which houses necessary equipment and connections and provides access to the different parts of the column.
  • the extended index finger 2 comprises an output driven shaft, which is connected to a suitable servomotor, on which is placed an image carrier 3 in the form of a globe.
  • an image carrier 3 in the form of a globe.
  • Incorporated herein is a screen 4 which is slightly recessed into the surrounding part of image carrier 3.
  • Figure 2 shows the image carrier separately and enlarged, wherein the recessed position of screen 4 is shown more clearly.
  • image carrier 3 can rotate 360 degrees on its shaft and revolves continuously via the output shaft of index finger 2, the image on the screen can be viewed by observers from all angles.
  • the speed of rotation is herein continuously adjustable and the direction of rotation can also be chosen as desired.
  • an image carrier having only one screen therein is used, but two, three or four similar screens or even more screens of a smaller size can be applied therein if desired in order to show either the same or another image simultaneously from different angles of view.
  • Image carrier 3 typically has a diameter of between 8 and 12 metres, whereby the whole has an impressive appearance which will never remain unnoticed. Since according to the invention not only support body 1 but also the image carrier itself have an attractive design and moreover belong together and are adapted to each other, an observer sees both parts as one whole and his attention will also focus on the screen 4 arranged in the image carrier.
  • the screen in this case comprises an electronically controllable LED panel with a plurality of triplets of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) in the different primary colours.

  • a random colour image can be built up herewith which is exceptionally bright and impressive.
  • Screen 4 here has a width of about 8 metres and a height of 4.5 metres and thereby complies with the width/height ratio of 16:9 prescribed for so-called wide-screen applications.
  • Wide-screen display gives an observer a natural view of the image provided, which further enhances perception thereof.
  • the LED screen here has a resolution of a minimum of 1 pixel per 22 mm which, with the dimensions of the screen and the normal viewing distance, ensures a sharp and clear image.
  • screen 4 is suspended in the image carrier for tilting on a horizontal shaft 5.
  • This shaft 5 is shown schematically in figure 2 and in practice is coupled to a servomotor, with which the screen can be placed in the optimal position relative to the incident sunlight by electrical means.
  • a tilting in the order of magnitude of a maximum of 15 degrees is found in practice to be sufficient in this respect and can therefore be realized with the present screen.
  • Also arranged in the edges along the screen are light-sensitive sensors (not further shown), the output signal of which is used for optimal adjustment of the light intensity and position of the screen.
  • a covering screen (not further shown) which is likewise coupled to the light-sensitive sensors and which in the case of (too) strong a light incidence automatically slides outward in order to darken the image surface. An optimal view of the image on screen 4 is thus sought after.
  • telecommunication means are accommodated in the column in the form of an interface board which is coupled to a central processing unit and which, via a satellite dish accommodated in the image carrier, is capable of broadband wireless data transmission to a control room which can be situated at a random location on earth.
  • a TCP/IP protocol is preferably applied, so that this can be controlled via Internet and a user interface adapted for this purpose. Images can thus also be transmitted real-time from anywhere in the world to the information column and be presented to passing observers via screen 4.
  • This provides the option of controlling and managing a number of such information columns from one central control point.
  • FIG. 3 A second embodiment of an information column according to the invention is shown in figure 3. h this embodiment the information column comprises a support body 1 in the form of an extended lower leg with a height of about 20 metres.
  • Leg 1 carries a soccer boot, on the tip of which is placed an image carrier 3 in the form of a football.
  • the football and the lower leg are joined together in balanced proportions in respect of dimensions so that the two parts of the construction form one harmonious, consistent whole.
  • the present information column is technically similar to that of the first embodiment.
  • figure 4 shows a third embodiment of the information column according to the invention, hi this case a support body 1 takes the form of an extended lower leg with a stocking which has slipped down on which is perched an image carrier 3 in the form of a rugby ball.
  • the rugby ball of this embodiment also rotates continuously.
  • this embodiment does not differ from the foregoing embodiments, or hardly so, although in aesthetic terms this embodiment appeals to a partly different section of the public.

Abstract

L'invention concerne un colonne d'information comprenant un corps (1) de support en forme de colonne connecté à au moins un support (3) d'image. Le support (3) d'image comprend un écran (4) sur lequel peut être affiché un texte ou une image, en particulier un message publicitaire. Le corps (1) de support et le support (3) d'information font partie d'une structure cohérente visuellement attrayante dans laquelle ils sont tous deux entièrement intégrés. Un observateur peut alors percevoir les deux comme un tout, divisant son attention de manière égale, de manière à englober ainsi l'image du support (4) d'image.
