- the beacon system used on landing strips in an airport generally consists of a primary series loop circuit along which are connected the beacon lamps powered by an alternating current whose effective value is regulated by a current regulator constant according to the desired gloss.
- the beacon lamps are each isolated from the primary circuit by means of a beacon transformer whose essential characteristics are standardized. These current transformers are coated with rubber and have primary connection cords on the supply side as well as secondary connection cords on the lamp side.
- transformers of this type are generally installed in manholes which are in fact cavities in the ground arranged at the edge of the runway.
- a manhole can include up to 8 transformers as well as other additional equipment.
- the manholes in which several transformers are located are sometimes filled with rain or runoff water.
- the transformers are arranged pell-mell in the manhole, the length of the primary and secondary cords causes after some time of use and maintenance, a mixture of cables often submerged and covered with mud which has accumulated over time at the bottom of the manhole.
- connections then hang at the bottom of the manhole and therefore, although the transformers are out of water, the connectors and all the cables are found in immersion at the bottom of the manhole.
- the main drawback is the poor sealing of the connections.
- the penetration of water into the primary plugs leads to connections with the earth which can go as far as the destruction of the insulators or by migration, the destruction of the transformer itself.
- the penetration of water into the plugs and secondary sockets can cause a certain diversion of the lamp current.
- the general aim of the invention is to provide a marking system with reinforced insulation and sealing thanks to the grouping in a single multiple block of the transformers placed in each manhole.
- Another object of the invention is to provide a beacon system in which each transformer has a male plug and a female plug so that several transformers can be grouped so as to form a single block attached to the wall of the manhole.
- the object of the invention is a beacon system, in particular an airport runway, comprising a power source supplying a constant current to a primary circuit and a plurality of beacon lamps connected respectively to the primary circuit by a plurality of current transformers, the secondary of which supplies the lamp supply current.
- a determined number of adjacent beacon lamps are connected to the primary circuit respectively by a determined number of transformers forming a multiple block without connection cable, each transformer forming a single block comprising a male plug and a female plug.

- the corresponding male and female plugs of the pairs of adjacent transformers are connected in the same alignment corresponding to the axis 28 of the toroids illustrated in FIG. 2B.
- a secondary socket socket 30-1, 30-2, 30-3 and 30-4 is overmolded respectively on each of the transformers 22-1, 22-2, 22-3 and 22-4, so that it just plug in the secondary cord coming from the lamp, for example the secondary cord 32 for the transformer 22-4.
- a label holder or any other similar device makes it possible to identify each transformer and its secondary connection.
- the multiple block 20 is hung on the vertical wall 34 of the manhole, and preferably in the upper part of the manhole, by a spacer 36 having two nut blocks 38 and 40 fixed to the wall 34 and tightened so as to hold together block transformers. It goes without saying that the cohesion of the multiple block as well as its attachment can be achieved by any other means without departing from the scope of the invention.
- each transformer of the multiple block 20 seen in section is presented in the manner illustrated in FIG. 3.
- the windings 42 and 44 forming the two parts of the torus are located on either side of a connection set 46 passing through the transformer and overmolded in the part of the transformer located in the axis of the toroid.
- This connection assembly 46 comprises a male plug 48 and its rubber base 50 and a female socket 52, hollow, the shape of which matches the shape of the male plug 48 and its socket 50.
- the connection of two adjacent transformers is performs by inserting the male plug 48 and the base 50 of the first transformer into the female plug 52 of the second transformer.
- the male plug 48 is connected to a copper conductor 54 and the bottom of the female plug is connected to a copper conductor 56 so that the insertion of the male plug 48 of an adjacent transformer causes the electrical connection between the conductor 54 of said transformer and the conductor 56 of the adjacent transformer.
- the two conductors 54 and 56 of the same transformer are connected respectively to the two ends of the primary winding of the transformer. Note that the male plug can be integrated on one side or the other of the transformer and vice versa for the female plug.
- connection assembly 60 overmolded in the part of the transformer located in the axis of the toroid formed by the windings 42 and 44 comprises two female plugs 62 and 64 located on the two opposite sides of the transformer.
- the connection of two adjacent transformers is carried out by means of a double male plug illustrated in section in FIG. 4A.
- This double male plug is composed of two male plugs 66 and 68 on each side and a cylindrical block 70 preferably made of rubber. Thanks to this double male plug, one or the other of the female plugs 62 or 64 can be transformed into a male plug by introducing one of the male plugs 66 or 68 into the chosen female plug.
- the cylinder 70 serves as a base abutting on the shoulder located inside the female plug when the male plug is inserted correctly so as to establish the electrical connection with one of the copper conductors 72 or 74 connected at the ends of the transformer primary winding.
- the invention allows the removal of the cords between the transformers and therefore eliminates the possible tangling of the primary cables.
- the primary cords are no longer at the bottom of the manhole, often immersed in water (and mud) of rain and runoff.
