Abstract

This invention is a method of character input into cellular phone. Left character input control button (4) and right character input control button (5) is installed on respective side of a cellular phone, and the first character of buttons must be input only when both left control button (4) and that character button is simultaneously pressed, and second character must be input by just that character button. And the third character must be input only when both right control button (5) and that character button is simultaneously pressed. Therefore you can easily input character without pressing buttons many times as for existing input method of the cellular phone.

Description

CHARACTER INPUT METHOD OF THE CELLULAR PHONE
Technical Field
This invention improves the character entry method of the existing cellular phone, which makes it quick and easy for users to input characters by decreasing numbers of their entries.
Background Art
This invention is a method of character input into cellular phone. In existing cellular phone a buttonβ as shown in fig 3 has a number and three alphabets, and also three Hangul ( Korean ) consonants and vowels.
Using this type of buttons you should input characters into LCD 2 as a following example:
Example : When inputting A B C you should press number ( 2 ) button 6 once for A, and press number ( 2 ) button 6 twice for B, and press number ( 2 ) button 6 three times for C (see fig.l or 2 ),
When inputting C C C you should press number ( 2 ) button 6 nine times.
With existing input method the user must press buttons many times for character entry like this.
It is very uncomfortable and time consuming to input messages, especially when the user have many letters to input like e-mail transmission.
Disclosure of Invention
This inventio is to add a left 4 and a right 5 character control button which controls character input function on respective side of existing cellular phone.
As shown in fig. 2 or 3. for inputting the first character 7 of number( 2 ) button 6 you just press both left character control button 4 and number( 2 ) button 6 simultaneously, and for inputting the second character 8 you just press ( 2 ) button 6 , and for inputting the third character 9 you just press both right control button 5 and number ( 2 ) button 6 simultaneously.
Therefore you can easily input character without pressing buttons many times as for existing input method.
Brief Description of Drawings
Figure 1 shows characters on keypads of a cellular phone.
Figure 2 shows front view of a cellular phone.
Figure 3 is a block diagram showing interface between each character control button on respective side and any character button. Best Mode for Carrying Out the Invention
Detailed description of character input method is as follows ( see the attached figures )'• Attached figure 2 shows a left and a right character control button 4 , 5 installed on respective side.
When using cellular phone these control buttons are operated by fingers of a hand that grasps cellular phone.
Figure 3 shows the block diagram pressing interface between the number ( 2 ) button 6 ( randomly selected for explaining operation examples ) and two character control buttons.
According to fig. 3 the number ( 2 ) button 6 is connected to the microprocessor in a cellular phone 1 and also to a left and a right character control button 4 , 5.
The first character 7 of this number ( 2 ) button 6, is A, ^ ( Hangul ), and the second character 8~B,s, and the third character 9-C, ^ is already input into microprocessor 3 .
Using fig. 2 the character input method is described as follows ( Enghsh and Hangul can be selectively input, but assumes to select English here for easy understsnding ):
The first character 7, A is input into LCD 2 screen only when pressing both left control button 4 and number ( 2 ) button simultaneously, and the second character 8, B is displayed on just by pressing number ( 2 ) button 6, and,
The third character 9, C is input into LCD 2 screen only when pressing both right control button 5 and number ( 2 ) button 6 simultaneously.
As above only one pressing of a button with or without control button can input any characters of three allocated on a button. All ten buttons in fig. 1 also are parallel connected to two control buttons just like number ( 2 ) button.
Figure. 1, shows character allocation, According to existing character input method, for example, you should press buttons 10 times to input '"' PHONE " because you should press ( 7 ) for P, ( 4 ) ( 4 ) for H, ( 6 ) ( 6 ) ( 6 ) for O, ( 6 ) ( 6 ) for N, and ( 3 ) ( 3 ) for E,
However according to this invention as shown in fig. 2, you should press both left control button 4 and number ( 7 ) button simultaneously for P, then press only number ( 4 ) for H, and you should press both right control button 5 and number ( 6 ) botton simultaneously for O, then press only number ( 6 ) and ( 3 ) button for N and E respectively, Thus you can press buttons just 5 times is ( 7 ) for P, ( 4 ) for H, ( 6 ) for O, ( 6 ) for N, and ( 3 ) for E sequence. The left and right control button 4, 5 is pressed by fingers of a hand holding cellular phone simultaneous with other hand numeric buttons so thst can take advantage of using both hands.
As for English words for instance " soy-oil " you should press buttons 18 times in a sequence of 777666999-666444555 according to existing method.
However in this method you should press buttons just 6 times in 769-645 sequence while pressing right control button 5

Claims

because all characters are in right side of buttons.
As above description you can significantly reduce numbers required to input characters by utilizing left and right button 4, 5.
Industrial Applicability
This invention will be mostly used in cellular phone, It can be also applied to the character type disply used in remote controllers of PDA, television, video and DVD, ect, as well as all kinds of portable measuring instruments.
What is claimed is
1, As the character input method, the methods are characterized as follows:
Left character input control button 4 and character input button 5 is installed on respective side of a cellular phone, and the first character of buttons must be input only when both left control button 4 and that character button is simultaneously pressed, and the second character must be input by just that character button, and the third character must be input only when both right control button 5 and that character button is simultaneously pressed.
2, As claimed in claim 1, the methods are characterized as follows:
Left and right character input control button 4, 5 is parallel interfaced with each of 10 character buttons respectively same as the method in claim! .
3, As claimed in claim 1 , the methods are characterized as follows:
First, second and third character on each button can interfaced with left and right character input control button 4, 5 regardless of its sequence such as 2nd-( 4 ), 3rd-( 5 ) or 1st- ( 4 ), 2nd-( 5 ), ect.
