Description

SYSTEM FOR WINDOWS. DOORS AND THE LIKE
The invention concerns a system for windows, doors and the like, comprising at least one pawl, ratch and/or bolt and at least one striker plate adapted hereto, said pawl, ratch and/or bolt is adapted for engagement in at least one recess in the striker plate, said pawl, ratch and/or bolt during closing substantially having at least a part of a front surface which has contact against or is placed at a short distance to a first inner wall in the recess in the striker plate.
The invention further concerns a system for windows, doors and the like, comprising a pasquil lock and at least one striker plate adapted hereto, said pasquil lock comprising at least one pivotal pawl for engagement in at least one recess in the striker plate, said pawl during closing substantially having at least a part of a front surface which has contact against or is placed at a short distance to a first inner wall in the recess in the striker plate.
The invention also concerns a striker plate comprising at least one recess with a front and rear surface disposed diametrically opposite each other and which together demarcate the recess, and also a pawl comprising one front and one rear surface substantially parallel with each other, on which surfaces in the one end there is an axis of rotation around which the pawl can turn.
Finally, the invention concerns the use of such a striker plate and pawl.
For the closing of doors and windows, it is commonly known to use pawls, ratches and/or bolts or pasquil locks with a striker plate adapted hereto, and where the pasquil lock comprises two pawls disposed at equally great distance around and to a lock housing for same which pawls by locking of the window make a turning movement into their pawl guides down in the striker plate adapted hereto. Such a system provides for a positive closing of a door/window, but has the drawback that when the window/door is closed, it is possible by means of a crowbar or other tool to press this tool between the fixed frame part and the movable part and thus get the pawl lifted out of engagement with the striker plate.
The object of the present invention is thus to provide a system comprising a pawl, ratch and/or bolt or pasquil lock whereby the risk of a break-in via the window or the door is considerably reduced, in that the lock itself comprising striker plate, pawl, ratch and/or bolt is configured in such a manner that it is difficult to force these parts out of engage- ment with each other, and whereby the solution/burglar proofing can be incorporated in already existing frames by an adaptation of the striker plate and the pawl, ratch and/or bolt, and pasquil lock itself.
This object is achieved with a system of the kind disclosed in the introduction, and also where the first inner wall comprises a first wall part and a second wall part with a first and respectively second distance to the centre plane of the recess, measured in relation to the first wall part, which first distance is less than the second distance, and where the front surface of the pawl, ratch and/or bolt comprises a pin/boss.
In the cases where the striker plate comprises at least two recesses disposed in an axially- parallel manner with integrated level differences in the one wall, it is also achieved that the window is secured against break-in while in the ventilation position.
The way in which the system functions is thus that in the striker plate there is provided an additional recess in that wall which faces towards the surface of the pawl which it turns past during the closing. At its outer tip and facing towards the recess in the wall of the striker plate, the pawl, ratch and/or bolt is provided with a pin/boss which during the turning movement of the pawl, ratch and/or bolt is just able to pass down into the striker plate as a consequence of the additional recess. Relating to a pawl, ratch and/or bolt arrangement the movement is activated by a toothed bar device, in that the pawl, ratch and/or bolt is going forward and backwards while the pawl, ratch and/or bolt is making the said turning movement. When the pawl, ratch and/or bolt or pasquil lock is thus in its locked position, this pin/boss has in its turning movement moved past the recessed area and now lies below the level for that part of the front surface of the striker plate which is not provided with the recess, whereby the pin roughly speaking establishes a grip in its lower edge, and whereby it is thus not possible or at least extremely difficult for the window/door to be forced open.
By providing a system according to the invention and as disclosed in claim 3, the most appropriate positioning of the pin/boss is achieved.
By providing a system according to the invention and as disclosed in claims 4 and 5, sensible dimensions and scaling of the size of the pin/boss are achieved.
By providing a system according to the invention and as disclosed in claim 6, a simple method in which to provide the second wall part is achieved.
The invention also concerns a striker plate as disclosed in the introduction, and also where the front surface comprises a first wall part and a second wall part with respectively a first and a second distance to the centre plane of the recess measured in relation to the first wall part, which first distance is less than the second distance.
Such a striker plate is expediently further configured as disclosed in claim 8.
The invention also concerns a pawl as disclosed in the introduction, and also where on the front surface and opposite the direction of rotation the pawl comprises a pin/boss. This pawl can be expediently dimensioned and configured as disclosed in claim 10 and 11. The invention also concerns the use of such a striker plate and pawl as disclosed in claims 12-13.
The invention will now be described in more detail with reference to the drawing, where
fig. 1 shows a section through a frame with a striker plate and a window with pasquil lock in the open position seen in two different situations,
fig. 2 shows the same as in fig. 1, but where the pasquil lock is locked down in the striker plate, fig. 3 shows a longitudinal section along the line III-III in fig. 2,
fig. 4 shows a detail view of striker plate and pawl seen in perspective from the rear,
fig. 5 shows the same as fig. 4 but seen from the front,
fig. 6 shows a second example embodiment of a striker plate according to the invention seen in perspective.
Fig. 1 shows a system according to the invention placed in a window system comprising a frame 20 in which the window 23 is placed, and where that part of the system 1 which concerns the operation of the pasquil lock 2 is mounted. This can close against a frame 19 in which the striker plate 3 is mounted. Fig. 1 shows two situations, i.e. a position in which the window is open and stands at a certain distance from the frame 19, and a second situation where the window is closed almost fully against the frame 19, but without the pasquil lock 2 having been activated via its handle 15 for a closing of the window, which does not take place until as shown in fig. 3, where the pawl 4 of the pasquil lock is in its closed position.
The system thus comprises a striker plate 3 mounted in the frame 19, said striker plate comprising a recess 5 which is mainly rectangular in shape, and with a first inner/front wall 6 which the pawl slides against. This first inner wall 6 is produced following known principles, but is modified so that preferably by milling-out or by moulding of the product there is provided a difference in level in said wall, whereby a first wall part 7 and a second wall part 8 appears, which first wall part 7 has a first distance to the centre plane of the recess 5 measured parallel with and in relation to the first wall part 7 and the second wall part 8, which has a second distance which is greater in relation to this centre plane. The striker plate 3 can also comprise a further recess 24 for additional locking of the system when the window is in the ventilation position. The recess 24 is axially parallel with the recess 5 and can comprise the same modified inner wall 6 as specified in claim 6.
During the locking as shown in fig. 2, in its turning movement the pawl 4 of the pasquil lock 2 now slides down into the bottom area of the recess 5, which pawl 4 on its front surface and facing towards the first inner wall 6 has a pin/boss 13 which is allowed passage in the recess as a consequence of the second wall part 8, which can be compared substantially with a recess in the first inner wall. When the window is thus locked, this pin/boss 13 lies laterally with this second wall part 8, i.e. in the area under the first wall part 7, and where the pin 13, which is in the shape of a hook which stands at right-angles on its surface, establishes a grip in the lower edge of this wall part, whereby the forcing open of the window is made difficult and, in the cases where this succeeds, there will be visible signs.
Fig. 3 shows a section through the construction shown in fig. 2, and where the system 1 is illustrated in its full configuration, comprising a handle 15 which activates a lock casing 21 which, via known means, is connected to a drawrod/pasquil rod 18, which in turn is engaged laterally to the lock casing 21 in at least two bridge areas 16 where a controlling of the pawls 4 takes place via a pawl guide 22 comprising a recess 17 in which the turning axis 14 of the pawl 4 slides, at the same time that a turning movement of the pawl 4 is effected by activation of the drawrod/pasquil rod. With this activation, the pawl 4 turns down in the striker plate which is configured for this purpose, in that it slides in the area corresponding to the second wall part 8 in the recess 5 in the striker plate 3. At its outermost tip and facing towards the second wall part, the pawl 4 is configured with a pin which is dimensioned in such a manner that this can slide freely into the area of the second wall part, and when the pawl 4 is in its bottom position, this pin 13 has gripping engagement in under the end edge of the first wall part. Both of the striker plates for each their pawls 4 are mounted in the window frame 19, while the handle itself and lock casing 21 with pasquil bar 18 are mounted in the frame 20.
The detailed principles of the striker plate 3 and pawls 4 will be illustrated with reference to fig. 4 and 5, in that here it will be seen that the pawl 4, which is produced substantially following known principles, comprises a curved part with a front surface 12 and a rear surface 26 which are plane parallel, and where at the one end there is a pin 13 on each of these surfaces which serves as axis of rotation 14 which is in engagement with the recess 17 in the bridge 16, and where opposite this there is provided a boss 13 which has a height of approx. 2 mm in relation to the surface. The remaining dimensions, i.e. here the breadth and the length, do not exceed the dimensions of the length of the second wall part 8 measured parallel with the longitudinal axis of the centre plane 11 of the recess.
The striker plate 3 is similarly produced following Icnown principles, but where in the front wall, the first inner wall 6, a difference in level is provided so that a first wall part 7 and a second wall part 8 are formed, where the difference in the distance to the centre plane of the recess and to the first wall part 7 in relation to the second wall part 8 is approx. 2-3 mm. The difference between the two distances is thus substantially the same as the height of the pin/boss 13.
When the pawl 4 is closed, this will slide with its pin along the second wall part and, when it is deepest down, its position will be lying under the first wall part 7.
Fig. 6 shows a second example embodiment of a striker plate 3, where this comprises a recess 5 following known principles in the same manner as otherwise described above, and where the wall of this is also provided with a difference in level in the first inner wall 6 in the formation of a first wall part 7 and a second wall part 8. The difference in level could also be formed by the welding of a mass on the first inner wall 6, so that again there is provided a first wall part 7 and a second wall part 8. The advantage of effecting a milling-out to provide a difference in wall level is that the system can thus make use of the known principles, in that in such a case a milling-out is effected in the mounted striker plate, and where the pawl, which is easy to replace, is replaced with the object of mounting the pawl with the unique pin/boss 13 according to the invention.
As a second possibility, both the pawl and striker plate in an existing window system can be replaced with a type according to the present invention, whereby the window is upgraded in a simple manner. Moreover, the striker plate can be produced in fibre- reinforced plastic material.
