Definitions

  • Paint-brush holder for mounting on cans Paint-brush holder for mounting on cans .
  • This invention concerns a brush stand of the nature described in the introduction to Claim 1.
  • a known brush stand of this type generally consists of an oblong trapezoidal spring. Each end of this trapezoidal spring is equipped with hooked gripping devices designed to grip the edge bead of the open paint pot. This allows the trapezoidal spring to be stretched across the opening of the paint pot.
  • the trapezoidal spring makes up a stand to the brush as the brush can be fixed vertically just by pressing the brush handle between two spring coils. In this way, the brush handle is fixed by means of the squeezing effect of the coil.
  • the fact that the trapezoidal spring is mounted across the paint pot causes great inconvenience as it partially blocks access to the paint. This is especially a problem when striking deep into the pot is necessary. Also, spillage of paint onto the spring cannot be avoided. Gradually, the spring will be soiled with paint, and when the brush handle is fixed in the trapezoidal spring, paint is left on the handle. And preventing exactly this kind of smearing of the handle was one of the objects of the brush stand.
  • the object of this invention is to remedy the above-mentioned shortages and inconveniences by establishing a brush stand which is easy to use and which in an efficient and effective way fixes the brush in the desired position without otherwise interfering with the practical performance of the painting.
  • the brush stand must be universal, i.e. the brush stand must be immediately adjustable and mountable on a broad section of different paint pots.
  • it must be relatively cheap to manufacture the brush stand, for instance, of die cast thermoplastics.
  • the task is solved by a brush stand designed as specified in the characterisation part of Claim 1.
  • the brush stand is unique by being composed of at least two parts of which the first part is made up of an almost U-shaped, cramp-like fitting consisting of a vertical centre piece, a number of parallel lower gripping hooks and, parallel (horizontal) to these, a top angle hinge featuring a mainly cylindrical recess mainly parallel to the centre piece and of which the second part is made up of a fastening fitting which is designed to be inserted in the angle hinge recess and which at subsequent twisting is designed to be fastened to the container side immediately below the angle hinge by means of an eccentric part projecting below the angle hinge simultaneously fastening the gripping hooks against the container side from the opposite side of this fixing the bush stand in its entirety to the container.
  • the brush stand is characterised by the fact that a fork-shaped fitting is attached to at least one of the two parts mentioned which is designed to fix the brush between two flexible fork legs when the
  • the gripping hooks on the cramp-like fitting will grip the edge bead of the paint pot and the fastening fitting will at the same time fasten the gripping hooks perpendicular to the side of the paint pot.
  • the shape of the cramp-like fitting combined with the universal squeezing effect of the fastening fitting enable mounting of the brush stand on a broad section of paint pots and containers currently in the market.
  • the brush is easily and quickly put into the stand as specified by placing the brush handle in the fork-shaped stand, and it is securely held in fixed position. As it is placed on the periphery of the paint pot, the brush stand in itself only to a minor extent affects access to the pot allowing painting to be carried out almost without being affected by the brush stand.
  • the orientation between the fork-shaped fitting and the asymmetrical cramp (the eccentric) of the fastening fitting ensures that the bristle of the paint brush is held over the paint pot, cf. Claim 2. This ensures that excess paint from the brush drips into the pot.
  • the cramp-like fitting is equipped with a two- piece gripping hook where the hook appears as two parallel hooks spaced apart.
  • the eccentric part of the fastening fitting is simultaneously placed immediately off the space between the two hooks.
  • Claim 6 describes how the cramp-like fitting can be equipped with an optional fork fitting placed in horizontal or near-horizontal position.
  • This optional fitting serves the purpose of hanging the brush in vertical or near-vertical position.
  • the brush stand is also equipped with an oblong, mainly horizontal stripper placed above the paint pot when the brush stand is mounted on this (Claim 7).
  • the stripper facilitates stripping of excess paint from the brush.
  • equipping the brush stand with a handle placed on the outside of the paint pot is useful. By means of this handle, it is easy to carry the paint pot, especially if this is not too big or too heavy.
  • the brush stand can be equipped with an external ladder hook to hang the paint pot on a ladder step.
  • Figure 1 shows a vertical cross section of a plastic paint pot equipped with a brush stand according to this invention
  • FIG. 1 shows the same seen from above
  • FIG 3 is an enlarged section of the paint pot and brush stand shown in Figure 1;
  • Figure 4 shows the front view of the brush stand;
  • Figure 5 shows the brush stand seen from one side
  • Figure 6 shows the brush stand seen from above with dismounted fastening fitting
  • Figure 7 shows the fastening fitting with the related fork fitting shown separately in a side view
  • Figure 8 shows the same cross section along the A- A line in Figure 7;
  • Figure 9 shows the brush stand in an embodiment with optional horizontal fork fitting seen from one side;
  • FIG. 10 shows the same seen from above
  • Figure 11 shows the brush stand in an embodiment with handle
  • Figure 12 shows the brush stand in an embodiment with ladder fitting.
  • the brush stand in all essentials consists of a U- shaped, cramp-like fitting 1 and a fastening fitting 2.
  • the fastening fitting 2 is equipped with a fork-shaped fitting 3 which is an integral part of the fastening fitting and which is placed vertically from this.
  • a brush P is shown fixed in the fork fitting 3.
  • the brush stand is shown mounted on a plastic paint pot M which, as usual, is designed with a ring-shaped bead N which forms the top of the pot and which is designed for mounting of a lid not shown.
  • the cramp-like fitting 1 is composed of a vertical intermediate piece 4, two parallel gripping hooks 5 spaced apart at the bottom of the intermediate piece and a horizontal angle bracket 6 placed at the top of the intermediate piece 4.
  • the free end of the angle bracket 6 features a vertical through-going recess 7 with a near-elliptic cross section.
  • the fastening fitting 2 can be inserted from above through this recess by means of an eccentric cramp 8 with an elliptic cross section corresponding to that of the recess (see Figures 7 and 8).
  • the fastening fitting is nested in the recess with an oblong centre piece 9 with a circular cross section.
  • the fastening fitting is revolving on a vertical axis 10 by means of which the eccentric cramp 8 is fastened to the side of the plastic pot M (see Figure 3).
  • the fork fitting 3 works as a grip.
  • the intermediate piece 9 connects the eccentric cramp 8 at the bottom of the fastening fitting and the fork fitting 3 at the top of the fastening fitting.
  • the fork is oriented as shown in Figure 2, i.e. the brush P is held with the bristle above the paint pot M.
  • the fork fitting 3 is composed of two flexible fork arms 11 and 12 which make it easy to insert and remove the brush handle from the brush stand.
  • the brush P is held horizontally or near-horizontally by the spring force of the fork arms.
  • Figures 9 and 10 show the brush stand in an embodiment with an optional horizontal fork fitting 13 which enables vertical hanging of the brush P.
  • the optional fork fitting is detachable and placed on the cramp fitting 1 of the brush stand by means of a special adaptor (not shown).
  • the brush P can be hung both horizontally and vertically.
  • Figure 11 shows the brush stand in an embodiment where the cramp fitting 1 is mounted on a handle 14. Using this handle, the paint pot M can be carried while hanging in the brush stand allowing the user to handle the paint pot in a convenient way and to avoid getting paint on his fingers.
  • the brush stand can be equipped with an angle hinge 15 adapted to ladder steps so that the brush stand and the paint pot can be hung on the ladder during painting.
  • the invention is not limited to the embodiment described and shown above. Other combinations of materials, other detailed embodiments and other design solutions for the individual components and accessories of the brush stand are conceivable within the framework of this invention, just as the invention may be extended to other areas than the specified. For example, using the invention as a broom or brush stand on a cleaning bucket is also possible.
