Abstract

A paint brush holder comprises a pair of pivoted arms 2 and 3 and brush-carrying member 1 adjustably and detachably mounted on arm 2 by means of which a standard paint or varnish brush can be held captive, in suspension after use, in order to allow surplus paint or varnish to freely drip into a container without its bristles coming into contact with any surface or foreign matter. Its secondary purpose is to hold the brush such that its bristles are suspended within a cleaning or preserving fluid without damaging the bristles. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Paint brush holder This invention relates to a paint brush holder for paint/varnish brushes with tapered handles.

Painting by hand held brushes is a well known occupation by both professional and the amateur painter. During pauses or on completion of painting, the brush is laid aside, often with paint or varnish still adhering to the bristles. This surplus paints varnish tends to drip, causing a mess, or if the brush is laid on the paint tin, the brush handle gets coated with wet paint, When finished with, brushes are often stored in a container of cleansing fluid whereby the bristles rest on the container bottom, getting clogged with sediment in the fluid, also damaging the bristles.

When working up ladders, the operator may be required to carry the paint container plus a number of brushes up the ladder.

The present invention consists of a removable scissor like clamp that is clipped to the paint or cleansing fluid container. On top of this clamp is a removable socket wherein the paint brush is slipped and held.

A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows in perspective the brush holder when used during a pause in painting operations or for carrying brushes up ladders.

Figure 2 shows the brush holder when used for storing brushes in cleansing fluid.

Figure 3 shows a combination of brush holders for different brush sizes as required on a particular job, particularly when working at heights.

Referring to the drawings, Figure 3, the Brush Holder consists of a removable flat section 1 shaped as shown with an opening in the top just large enough to pass the narrow neck of the paint brush handle through. Below this opening is a larger hole to allow the paint brush to slide down and lodge itself on the wider part of the brush handle, as shown in Figure 1.

The brush holder 1 Figure 4 is a removable item that fits into the holes in 2. Its base consists of a round tapered pin to push fit into the holes in 2. The projections either side fit snugly over the edges of item 2 and prevent 1 from twisting when in use.

Brush holders 1 are made with various size apertures and holes to cater for varying size brushes.

The clamp top section 2 consists of a rigid flat section with one end bent down as shown to clear the lip of the container. It has a hinge bracket 4, which when connected to the hinge bracket 7 allows the jaws to open to clear the container lip. 5 is a hollow, curved tube, part of, or secured to 2 as shown, to allow the spring housing 8 to slide in and out. The holes in the top are positioned as shown, selection as required and to suit brush being used, see Figures 1 and 2.

The clamp base 3 is a rigid flat shaped as shown, The front end 6 is curved to steady the clip when gripping the container. The hinge bracket 7 is located to match 4 and 8 is a curved tube part of, or secured to 3 to slide into 5. A spring 9 is inserted in 8 and when the whole is assembled, is held captive. By its action of being compressed between 2 and 3 it forces the jaws of the clamp to close, thereby locking onto the container,

CLAIMS 1. A scissor like clamp unit with a removable top section to hold and restrain a paint brush within limits such that contents of the brush bristles will fall within a restricted catchment area.

2. A scissor like clamp unit as claimed in claim 1 wherein a removable top section holds and restrains a paint brush within limits such that its bristles are suspended in a fluid within a container.

3. A scissor like clamp unit as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 wherein the brush holder has an opening to receive the narrow neck of a paint brush handle whereby this aperture widens out to receive the wider part of the paint brush handle but not wide enough for the brush to slip through.

4. A scissor like clamp unit as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 wherein a captive spring is securely held within curved containers, being parts of the main body of the unit, whereby these curved units slide within or over each other to cause the clamp units jaws, because of the hinge, to securely lock onto the container.

5. A paint or varnish brush holder substantially described herein, with reference to Figures 1 - 4 of the accompanying drawings.
