Description

A DEVICE FOR A WINDOW WITH A FIXED FRAMING
Field of the invention
The present invention relates to windows with fixed framing, i.e. windows that are not meant to be opened for purposes of ventilation and the like.
Description of the related art
Windows of the above-mentioned type are widely used in buildings with air conditioning systems, e.g. in hotels and office buildings, where uncontrolled opening of the windows for ventilation could destroy the effect of the air conditioning system. Normal maintenance of such windows, including cleaning of the external surface, is carried out with the use of more or less complicated equipment, whether it be scaffolding which is erected from the ground (and which can only be employed for lower buildings) or hoist systems which can be moved up and down and laterally along the outside of the building.
Summary of the invention
According to the present invention a device for a window with a fixed framing, i.e. a window which is not meant to be opened for purposes of ventilation and the like, where the actual window pane together with its framing are equipped with interacting elements which permit the window pane to be turned or tilted from the inside of the building after an internal frame moulding around the window's aperture has been removed, wherein the interacting elements permit the window pane to be turned/tilted 180° relative to the framing and to be returned to the framing with the original outside facing into the building, is provided.
According to a preferred embodiment the interacting elements comprise pivot pins which are mounted centrally relative to the outside and inside of the window pane.
Preferably two opposite edge surfaces of the window pane is movably and turnably mounted in fittings which are attached to and/or may be pivoted relative to corresponding edge surfaces in the window's fixed framing.
It is preferred that the fitting comprises an elongated base part attached to an edge surface of a fixed framing together with two fitting arms which are pivotably mounted to each other and whereof one of the fitting arms is pivotably mounted relative to the base part while the other fitting arm is pivotably and movably mounted in the base part and at its opposite end is pivotably connected to the window pane.
It is also preferred that the fitting, which is securely mounted in the fixed framing, is designed with a longitudinal undercut track for guiding a pivot pin with its head attached at a corner of the window pane.
In order to facilitate the maintenance of such windows, according to the present invention it is proposed that the actual window pane together with its framing is equipped with interacting elements which permit the window pane to be turned or tilted, thus enabling its outside to be cleaned and/or otherwise maintained from the inside of the building, e.g. when replacing seals for the framing. A secondary effect of the invention is that the window pane, which may be of a double or multilayer type with selective reflection and transmission properties, will be able to be turned with the seasons.
Brief description of the drawings
The invention will now be described in more detail with reference to the attached drawing, whereby further features of the invention will be explained. fig. 6 is a sectional view of a double-layer window pane mounted in a fixed frame and equipped with a fitting according to figs. 1 and 2 for turning or tilting the window pane relative to the fixed frame.
Detailed description of the invention
In order to facilitate the maintenance of windows with fixed framing, i.e. windows which are not meant to be opened for purposes of ventilation and the like, it is proposed that the actual window pane 1 together with its fixed framing are equipped with interacting elements which permit the window pane to be turned or tilted, thus enabling its outside to be cleaned and/or otherwise maintained from the inside of the building, e.g. when replacing seals for the framing. Figs. 1 and 2 illustrate an embodiment of a fitting for the above-mentioned purpose. For each window pane 1 there are provided two fittings 2, one on each of two opposite lateral edges of the window pane. The fitting 2 in figs. 1 and 2 comprises an elongated base part 21 attached to an edge surface of a fixed framing 3 (fig. 6) together with two fitting arms 22 and 23 whereof one fitting arm 22 is pivotably mounted about a fixed pivot pin 24 relative to the base part while the other fitting arm 23 is pivotably and movably mounted on a pivot pin 25 in a longitudinal slot 26 in the base part 21. The two fitting arms 22 and 23, moreover, are pivotably mounted relative to each other about a fixed pivot pin 27. At the end of the other fitting arm 23 which is opposite to the pivot pin 25, the window pane 1 is mounted on a pivot pin 28 which in the illustrated embodiment is movably mounted in a longitudinal slot 29 in the fitting arm 23.
The length of the slot 25 in the base part 21 together with the length of the two fitting arms 22 and 23 and the distance between the pivot pin 24, between the base part 21 and the fitting arm 22 and the slot 25 is such that, when the fitting is folded up, the base part and the two fitting arms will lie parallel to each other along the inside of the fixed framing 3 (fig. 6). The length of the fitting arm 23, moreover, is such that, when the fitting arm 23 is swivelled completely out from the base part 21 of the fitting, the window pane 1 will be able to be pivoted 180° (or possibly 360°) about the axis of the pivot pin 28. The pivot pin 28 is mounted centrally relative to the two surfaces of the window pane 1 , thus providing the option of placing or rearranging the window pane with one surface or the other facing out from the building.
In a multilayer window pane, which may be designed with selective reflection and transmission properties (a "climate window"), the pivot pin 28 as indicated in figs. 3 and 6 can be mounted on a block arranged between the outer layers of the pane in such a manner that only the pin protrudes outside the edge surfaces of the pane.
Figs. 4A + 4B and 5 illustrate a second embodiment of a pivotable or tiltable mounting of a window pane 1 relative to its fixed framing. In this case the window pane 1 is provided at opposite corners of two opposite lateral edges with a pivot pin 41 with its head 42 arranged, after the window pane 1 has been pivoted out from its fixed framing, to be moved in a fitting 4 with a longitudinally undercut groove, thus enabling the window pane 1 , if so desired, to be pivoted back to the framing with the original outward facing lateral surface facing inwards. For this purpose the pivot pin 41, in the same way as the embodiment in figs. 1-3, is mounted centrally relative to the two surfaces of the window pane 1.
Fig. 6 is a part of a sectional view through a multilayer window pane 1 mounted in a fixed framing 6 and equipped with a fitting 2 of the type illustrated in figs. 1 and 2 for pivoting or tilting of the window pane relative to the framing. The embodiment will be analogous if a sliding fitting 4 is employed of the type illustrated in figs. 4B and 5. When the window pane 1 is swivelled in to abut against an outer shoulder 61 of the fixed framing 6 and under shims of seals 62 and 63, which will be described below, an inner frame moulding 64 is attached to the main part of the fixed framing 6 whereby the window pane 1 is secured in the framing without the possibility of unintended or unprovoked opening of the window. Between the window pane 1 and the inner frame moulding 64 there is mounted a seal 63 of foam rubber or similar porous material which provides a firm abutment against the glass plate. Between the window pane 1 and the outer frame shoulder 61 there is mounted an elastic seal 62 of neoprene or epideme. The seal 62 has a lower or inner essentially flat portion 65 which is intended to abut against the outer glass surface of the window pane 1 behind the frame shoulder 61 together with a tongue 66 which is intended to protrude inwards relative to the window's aperture and abut elastically against the glass surface, thus forming an elastic, insulating air pocket bounded by the glass surface, the flat portion 65 and the tongue 66.
