Abstract

Described herein is a PCR method of DNA fingerprinting using primers that match conserved regions of a gene family. In this manner the resulting PCR products represents genomic DNA fragments that are parts of genes. The DNA fingerprints can be those of any source, plant, animal and human. The method uses a plurality of sense primers that match a first conserved region in the gene family, and a plurality of anti-sense primers that match another conserved region in the gene family. By several modifications enabling increased spectrum of variability one set of conserved primers can be replaced by primers that match the sequences of microsatellite repeat, or cis-acting regulatory region or any other random primer. The DNA fingerprinting system can be linked to these genes expression patterns in various organs and in various biological situations.
