In prior art, Korean Laid-open Application No. 20-1997-006184 of
Kia Motors describes an engine control unit for preventing vehicles from being stolen, but it discloses that a driver transmits a starting enabling or starting disabling signal to the vehicles, and the engine is prevented from starting when receiving a starting disabling signal. In this way, however, there occurs a problem that there is every probability that a vehicle may be stolen because a starting enabling signal may be exposed and copied.
Therefore, according to the present invention, in order to securely prevent a vehicle from being stolen, since a driver uses a proper
identification code which is nearly unable to be copied, a probability of a vehicle being stolen is reduced prominently.
It is an object of the present invention to provide an engine ignition control unit which comprise s a cordless transmitting and receiving circuits and a microcomputer, cordlessly transmits/receives a proper identification code for a driver during a starting, and can prevent motorcycles from being stolen by stopping their operation when trying to start without receiving the proper identification code by judging whether the identification code is received.
DISCLOSURE OF INVENTION
The present invention also relates to an ignition timing control unit for motorcycles using an ignition coil and an ignition plug as an ignition means. Especially, the ignition control unit according to the present invention includes cordless data transmitting and receiving circuits and an microcomputer, thereby enabling the vehicle to operate when the proper code for a driver is the same as the signal received by a cordless receiver, which is transmitted from a cordless transmitter during a starting of the vehicle, while stopping the operation thereof when the proper code is different from the received signal. The ignition control unit further may comprise an alarm means such as a siren, thereby preventing the operation of a motorcycle by a thief.
In one aspect of the present invention, the engine ignition control
unit for motorcycles using an ignition coil and an ignition plug as an ignition means comprises a cordless transmitter for transmitting a proper identification code for a driver by pressing an operation button; a cordless receiver portion including a cordless receiver for receiving the proper identification code from the cordless transmitter and a code identification portion functioning as a decoder; and an electronically controllable ignition unit including a microcomputer or an equivalent circuit which receives a signal output from the cordless receiver portion and controls an ignition pulse output portion so that the engine operates below the number of revolutions of no-load operation during a predetermined period after a starting until receiving the predetermined proper identification code, and the ignition pulse output portion for outputting a normal ignition pulse when receiving a predetermined proper identification code within the predetermined period on the basis of a control signal from the microcomputer.
In another aspect of the present invention, the engine ignition control unit stops a starting by not outputting a ignition pulse when not receiving a proper identification code from a cordless transmitter within a predetermined period after the starting, and further comprises an alarm means giving an alarm when starting motorcycles without receiving the proper identification code from the cordless transmitter.
In further aspect of the present invention, when codes similar to the proper code stored in the memory in the unit are received continuously, the engine ignition unit for motorcycles having the driver
code identification function using a cordless method regards it as a producing of a scanning code by other people and implementing an anti- receiving operation during a predetermined period, thereby having an anti- scanning function so as to perform a proper code protection function. Further, an engine ignition control unit called CDI has been mounted on the existing motorcycles, while a cordless transmitter and a cordless receiver means may be constituted as one unit, among a cordless transmitter, a cordless receiver means and a ignition unit according to the present invention, and the unit may be mounted on motorcycles, thereby accomplishing an immobilizer function.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS
Fig. 1 is a block diagram showing a engine ignition control unit for motorcycles according to the present invention.
Fig. 2a is a timing diagram showing the relationship between time and states of a vehicle in case that the engine ignition unit for motorcycles according to the present invention does not receive a driver proper identification code within a predetermined time after a starting. Fig. 2b is a timing diagram showing the relationship between time and states of a vehicle in case that the engine ignition unit for motorcycles according to the present invention receives a driver proper identification code within a predetermined time after a starting.
BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
The preferred embodiments will be described hereafter with reference to the accompanying drawings. Fig. 1 is a block diagram showing a engine ignition control unit for motorcycles according to the present invention.
As shown in Fig. 1, the engine ignition unit for motorcycles according to the present invention comprises an ignition control unit(20) which includes an electronically controllable ignition unit(22) using an ignition coil and an ignition plug as an ignition means, and a cordless receiver portion(21) connected to the unit(22) and receiving the proper code transmitted in cordless method and transmitting the code value to the microcomputer(24) in an electronically controllable ignition unit; and an cordless transmitted 10) for cordlessly transmitting a code. It may further comprise a siren driver portion when it has a siren.
The cordless transmitter(lθ) comprises a code generating portion(or an encoder) and a cordless output portion, while the cordless receiver portion(21) comprises a cordless receiver and a code identification portion(or a decoder). The encoder and the decoder(or a code identification portion) have to be indicated by a predetermined same code values at a time of the manufacture. Therefore, the encoder which generates the code # 1 forms a pair with the decoder which identifies the code # 1. The codes are obtained by using several hundred thousands to several millions of encoder IC's and decoder IC's . In the present
invention, a encoder and a decoder are used which can generate a millions types of codes.
A driver of the motorcycle on which an engine ignition unit according to the present invention is mounted has to start the vehicle after pressing an operation button(l l) of the cordless transmitter(lθ), to operate it normally. The cordless transmitted 10) outputs a predetermined driver proper identification code during a predetermined time when the operation button is pressed, and then when the driver starts the vehicle, an electronically controllable ignition unit(22) operates, thereby outputting a ignition coil driving pulse according to the number of revolutions of the engine.
At this time, the electronically controllable ignition unit(22) outputs such an ignition coil driving pulse that the engine operates at the number of revolutions below no-load operation(below idle RPM) until the cordless receiver portion(21) receives the predetermined proper identification code within a predetermined period, thereby disabling the vehicle to operate normally.
Futher, after starting the vehicle, when the cordless receiver portion receives a predetermined proper code within a certain time, the electronically controllable ignition unit(22) operates to make the vehicle run normally, while when the cordless receiver portion does not receive the predetermined proper code within the certain time, the outputting of an ignition pulse from the unit(22) is prohibited and the operation of the vehicle is stopped. At this time, when the engine ignition control unit
according to the present invention further comprises a siren, the siren is driven to give an alarm against the theft.
Fig. 2a is a timing diagram showing the relationship between time and states of a vehicle in case that the engine ignition unit for motorcycles according to the present invention does not receive a driver proper identification code within a predetermined time after a starting.
As shown in Fig. 2 a, in case that the motorcycle on which the engine control unit according to the present invention is mounted does not receive the proper code until the time point(tl + tn) passed by a certain time from the time point(tl) when the motorcycle starts, the starting of the vehicle is stopped, and if the engine control unit further comprises a siren, it gives an alarm, thereby preventing the vehicle from being stolen.
Fig. 2b is a timing diagram showing the relationship between time and states of a vehicle in case that the engine ignition unit for motorcycles according to the present invention receives a driver proper identification code within a predetermined time after a starting.
As shown in Fig. 2b, in case that the motorcycle receives the proper code within the time point(tl + tn) passed by a certain time from the time point(tl) when the motorcycle starts, the motorcycle can operate normally.
Futher, the cordless receiver portion according to the present invention implements an anti- receiving operation during a certain time when codes similar with the proper code are received continuously at the
time of the receiving of the proper code, thereby having an anti-scanning function against the scanning operation of other people.
Therefore, the engine ignition conrol unit according to the present invention can prevent motorcycles from being stolen by stopping their operation when trying to start without receiving the proper identification code by judging whether the identification code is received.
